Tweed Jacket Reviews: 2017 Mercedes-Benz C200 Sport Estate 9-G Tronic (W205/S205): • Tweed Jacket Reviews: ...
I had the privilege today of driving this 2019 Mercedes-Benz C200 Estate Sport 9-G Tronic as a courtesy car from Mercedes-Benz of Winchester whilst my mother's 2017 C-Class (as in the Tweed Jacket Reviews episode above) was in for an MOT and service. This is the facelifted W205 (or technically S205) C-Class, and has a number of differences from the earlier models, not all of them positive changes...
I did not have the car for very long, and did not even know which courtesy car I was going to get before I was handed the keys, so it is very low production values with minimal editing. This is not a substitute for a full review, which I hope will follow at some point in the future.
As an independent vehicle consultant, I take potential buyers through the whole car buying process from choosing a make and model to a vehicle handover and road tax. In addition to information on this service, I also have a selection of written and video reviews of cars that I have owned, hired, borrowed or have somehow come into my possession. Please use the Contact Me page on my website to get in touch, visit my Facebook page for latest updates and share this video if you like it! Thank you for watching.

We typically like the new shapes especially the e convertible, however our heart will always be true to the C124, the build quality is something else.

Oh absolutely, that C124 is beautiful and the build quality of the 124 series in general is legendary for a reason!

Thanks very much indeed, Mr Ashraf! I know that you are something of a Mercedes-Benz expert yourself. Glad you enjoyed the little video.

It's really strange. It's definitely a Sport as the courtesy car agreement had it printed at the top of the page! Despite the infotainment system upgrades and more logical cruise control layout, a lot of other things seem to have been removed....

this car is due for replacement and the new one is due later this year or early 2021, it was heavily disguised, but not much seemed to have changed. I agree a mercedes of this size should not have a 1.5 petrol engine, should be at least 2 litre, but wonder will there be an electric version with the replacement

Ah yes, I imagine that we are probably talking about 2021 for the replacement now, given recent world events. The engine is OK, and I am sure that it helps Mercedes-Benz get better WLTP economy and carbon dioxide figures, but in the real world it looks like the improvements in acceleration and fuel consumption are negligible over the pre-facelift model.

Great review! While I wouldn't criticise this as a bad car, neither would I call it a particularly good one considering the price and the expectations people might have for a Mercedes Benz. The infotainment is superb but the engines are very average, touch point quality is good but not spectacular and I find the cabin ambience dark and foreboding. I actually think Lexus and Volvo are both doing much nicer interiors then MB, Audi or BMW now.

Thanks John! I prefer my mother's car to this, infotainment system aside. The engine is OK, but it is not really the step forward it claims to be over the old two litre. You are probably right that Lexus and Volvo have more appealing interiors than this at the moment. It's not a bad car, indeed in some ways it is excellent, but there is a reason why I haven't owned a Mercedes-Benz yet.

yeah its a pleasing update, but its a bit dated now and a replacement model is imminent. And as i said before it should be around 2021 if we go by the previous models, you said 2022 but i think even a Mr Micheal Edward below agrees it will be 2021!

Absolutely, the new screens and steering wheel are nice, but I imagine that the new model, whenever it appears, will be even better. It was really interesting to finally drive a facelifted version, I must say...

A C class Mercedes-Benz with a 1.5L engine. This makes me quite sad. A Merc should be 500cc per cylinder bare minimum.

Yes, this came in with the 2018 facelift. Both this and the pre-facelift C200 have engines which sound a bit gruff, and they seem to pull about the same, it's difficult to tell the driving characteristics apart unless you drive them back to back.
