2019 Mazda3 vs Toyota Corolla Hatchback Comparison
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Compact hatchbacks are usually all about value and not much else, but the Mazda3 and Toyota Corolla also add style, driving dynamics, and tech into the mix. Although this has always been the case for the Mazda3, the two hatchbacks have recently been totally overhauled and now the Corolla has more to offer than just reliability and value. In previous generations, we thought it was unfair to compare the Corolla to the Mazda3 because the Toyota always seemed a class below. With this new generation model, however, the playing field has been leveled and we now think the two are worthy competitors. Although the two hatchbacks are executed quite differently, they both have a lot to offer and we've brought them together to see which one is the better car.

I have to disagree with you guys on the Mazda 3. I currently own a 2014 Mazda 3SGT love the car, but it's not perfect. Mazda listened to it's customers & the all new Mazda 3 shows. Many owners & I had numerous complaints such as firm ride, Very noisy cabin, poor performing Bose sound system, low resolution/slow infotainment system, tacky HUD display, no memory seating ffs Mazda even added a dead pedal finally!!! Kudos to Mazda for actually listening to it's customer & addressing the majority of the complaints. Once Mazda adds the 2.5T engine (finger's crossed) it's going to be an incredible car & should also address the complaints you had.

When you talk about backseat room, you should always tell us the person's height. There is a big difference if you are 6' 6" vs 5' 6". Without your height your opinion is useless on this matter. The woman in the video should have given an opinion about this too along with her height.
Good short review I took the new Mazda three for a test drive and agree with the review comments I would ask them perhaps they can respond here, whether they experienced any jarring “thuds” from the wheels when hitting uneven surfaces or minor potholes?
You guys need to watch and listen to your own review in detail. So many conflicting comments. The Mazda isn't bubbly enough, it's too Greman? Dumb comments to say the least. The back seat looks like a straight jacket and the infotainment interface isn't very good. Other than the infotainment on the Toyota, it seemed to be the best all arounder. Listen to the words you use to describe each car. Is the Mazda worth $4000 more than the Toyota?
@ztekz

Yeah totally conflicting in certain points of the review...after a lot of bashing on the 3 and not so much on the Corolla in the end you guys picked - the 3 as the better car. Duh....
I've driven both in sedan verson, and I have to disagree! The Mazda still drives better than the Corolla, even though the Corolla is much better than before, the chassis in the Mazda feels more planted, as she said, German like, I would admit however that the Mazda3 isn't as raw as it used to be (that made it very fun but tiresome at long distance drives, and I know because I have a 2016). I'll definitely be upgrading next year, hopefully they release an AWD turbo version! And I still would choose the Corolla over the Civic, the CVT is better in the Corolla and I just can't get over the Civic's styling.

What is there in a step above the Mazda3 that you can get a manual and a naturally aspirated motor in? sedan or hatch?
Mazda 3 is definitely the much nicer looking car as well as the bigger nicer engine. It also costs $4k more which is quite a bit more in this price range. The corolla is more of an economy car while the Mazda is a sportier nicer slightly more expensive economy car.

This mazda is one of the most beautifull car this day and that's all about it. You don't have to compare it. Mazda have a totaly diferent philisophy from generalist and that's why this car is so particular. Not like those generic focus, golf, megane, seat,... All these swiss knife without soul.

I have found that the Corolla hatchback does not have very much side and rear visibility, which the sedan has much more. Do the Mazdas have the same scenario?
Mazda 3 is the winner for sure in my own personal opinion
You cannot beat the nonlinear power with that dynamic force engine in the Toyota CHB. It's reminiscent of the Acura Integra Vtec.
The Mazda looks like it can be a luxury car. I take the Mazda.

I think cars should focus less on touch screens and focus more on actual buttons or knobs where the driver can easily know what he is actually pressing or turning. I bought a car with an 8 inch touch screen and less knobs but then warns to not use it while driving. The heck!
I love my beautiful Mazda Hatch but I wish navigating my music wasn't so hard.... I'd like them to give us a software update to fix that very awkward/difficult system.
I think a agree with the new 3 to be too mature. That's the reason in 2017 I bought a 3 and not a Golf. It has a wonderful sporty balance, and you can brake into corners, like old-school Peugeot's. Even lowered the suspension, so it feels even more like my MX5. The new 3 simply is too small. Two sons and me: 6'4. Does not fit. It looks very good, I've not the idea the seats are better than my 3. What I hate is the downgraded rear suspension. A trade off for luxury to keep the price controllable that is unacceptable. The same reason why I did not go for the CX3.

I sure can't come up with even one example except for Mazda 6 which is relatively new car and still pretty slow overall. I think you can say the Mazda 3 is nicer, but $4k more is likely putting out of budget for a lot of people shopping for this class of vehicle. I'm a man not interested in bubbly. Then the guy pushes the driver seat all the way back and then throws a tantrum back seat. It's a hatchback. Here in Australia the service costs for the Corolla over the 5 year warranty period is $175 per service or $875 for 5 years I test drove the kia cerato GT and i liked it but my wife didn't. The Kia has a 7 year warranty that is true. The Cerato GT cost $3250 for the first 5 years and over 5k for the whole 7 years. Of course the money might be not a factor to some people. But you can see they do get loads of money from you during the warranty period. Worth pointing out I feel.

@@Steven_Rowe . Yes. The maths don't always match the real case mind you. And Kia has long had 7 year warranty whilst Toyota (& others) have only (grudgingly?) embraced 5 years. I don't know the answer. But I've owned both brand new Toyota and new Hyundais too, & while both are ultra reliable, nowadays, I get the feeling that Toyota is more into 'hardball' whereas Hyundai is extremely helpful & do what they politely say they'll do. As for Kia. I don't know, but if (are they?) like brother company Hyundai on the service and dealer front??

@@letsseeif I did like the Cerato because of max torque from 1500 RPM
I am a 4 time Mazda owner and want to like the new Mazda3 hatchback, but I'm not sure I do. That rear visibility is very concerning as I drive in an urban environment and I need to be visually aware of the traffic and activity all around me at all times without the aid of cameras and beeps. The interior looks very nice, and I have no doubt it will be reliable, but the exterior styling is not doing it for me. I love hatchbacks. The VW Golf, love, but no way am I owning a VW out of warranty, and I keep my cars a long time. Elantra GT, ok, but nobody seems to have them in stock. Civic, looks hideous. Kia Forte hatchback, I'm will to give a chance but it is not determined if the latest Forte5 will be sold in the US for 2020. The Corolla hatchback hits all the marks, and the price is good, and I'm sure it will be reliable, but Toyota is a laggard by not offering Android Auto. I *must* have phone integration in my next new car, and I'm not switching to i-Phone.

I heard the 2020 corolla hatchback will have android auto, and the dealership told me i can have android auto installed in my 2019 hb sometime this november once an update is released (but theres no guarantee so the 2020 is the safer bet)

@@aca2983 i only have 1000 miles on my corolla so far, but I have absolutely loved every mile of it. I take it on backroads on my commute back regularly and haven't hit any limits or understeering. Although, grain of salt ofcourse, as the only car I owned prior was a 2006 honda crv, so anything is an upgrade from that, as well as it treated me.
i love that the chicks watch cost almost as much as each of those cars
You can get an Elantra that has lots of room but it rides and steers like a Hyundai . Or you can get a Civic but the 1.5 L Turbo has oil dilution problems yet to be completely disclosed or addressed by Honda and when that Turbo wears out ... $ $ $ $
The screen in the mazda 3 is so far away it wouldn't benefit for touch screen anyway. So complaining about that is stupid.
This is why I don't watch AutoGuide's video's very often. All they do is piss ,moan ,and whine about everything. Hello they're compact car's.
Toyota with the manual does 7.5 to 60 which is pretty dang close to the Mazda. Rear seat room on paper is less but seems better. You need to spend 27K for a manual Mazda 3 vice as low as 22K for the Corolla XSE with active rev matching. Toyota uses dual injection (no carbon build up) vice basic direct injection so more reliable. Better fuel economy for the Corolla 28 / 37. The Mazda hatch seems a bit bulbous without any character lines. I see the corolla as a winner for a basic daily driver and I never thought I would say that. Originally Mazda said the switch over to the torsion beam vice multilink would increase passenger room and cargo but both are less than the outgoing Mazda 3. In no way would I pay 27K for 186 HP. At that level just go for a GTI.

Why do you keep saying "vice"? You mean versus?

@@Plur307, the use of the preposition “vice,” a Latin borrowing, to mean “instead of” or “in place of.” (Think of the related term “vice versa,” which is also from Latin and means “conversely,” or “in reversed order.”)

Your justification doesn’t add up buddy mazda only cost a bit more because it offers more plain and simple, and overall a better car no matter how you look at it. This comparison wasn’t even necessary cause its as if both cars are in different class
Toyota really should have expanded on the 2017-19 designs of the Corolla. I parked by 3 2020 Corolla and they looked pretty bad compared to the previous generation

Grover Williams I have a Corolla Hatch in blue flame and personally think it looks great! I definitely prefer the Hatchback over the 2020 Corolla Sedans though. Those look much more boring.
I don't care how fancy you think the Mazda is you can have the Mazda I'm sticking with the Toyota cuz I've had Corollas and they go 300,000 miles and even more and I've had a Mazda B4000 pickup and that was a big problem

Maybe if we got a manual transmission speed 3 with closer to Civic type R spec's might peek your fancy..!

Maaaazdah.... much Canadian-ness going on.
I just hate those infotainment systems stuck on the dashboard like in the Toyota. That trend really sucks and is just cheap. Might as well drive around with a toaster on the dashboard.

Driver distraction is number 1 cause of accidents.
I find the manual 2.5 Mazda 3 is much faster then the auto 3 and the manual is more enjoyable.
what about durability and reliability?????

Corolla’s are known for reliability. Toyota cars can last for a long time (over 200k miles). Mazda’s have drastically increased in reliability. They’re a little more expensive if something breaks, but things don’t usually break on Mazda’s and they’re not ALL that expensive. Still miles cheaper than European cars.
Why is aggressive and in your face a good thing? Waah! Being in the back of the Mazda looks like a trip to...solitary confinement.
Summing up what Jodi is says, the missing piece from this generation Mazda 3 is the characteristic of multi link rear suspension driving dynamic. If Mazda claim their torsion beam so great I dare them to start putting torsion beam rear suspension on MX 5 and CX 9. Forgot to mention Mazda North America still have the front head lights on when driving. Turn that off Mazda NA!
10,000 dollars more? Sounds like bubbly to me
