2019 KTM 690 ENDURO R VS 500 EXC SIX DAYS

Спорт

No clear winner here. Bottom line if you are a really good & experienced rider you can do a lot of technical with the 690 R and enjoy the impressive capabilities on road. As an average rider the 500 is a better fit for me. With it, I can push myself and despite the maintenance schedule, this bike is very cost friendly (especially when you crash). Choose wisely according to the terrain you like to ride. They are both amazing bikes!

    I know I’m late to party but this is f…king awesome stuff. The terrain around 4 minutes in looks tough. I’m a geezer (65) riding a Tuareg on BDR’s and I find it too heavy at critical times. I trailer from S Florida to mountains but I have to flat top it back to my car 100’s of miles when I’m done. So I’m up in the air on which one. 690-110 lbs lighter, 500-200lbs lighter. I can’t wait.

    If more than 10% of road involved 690 if 90 to 100% dirt 500. Also i like the 500 so i can push my skills but if you just want to ride dirt the 690 is plenty. 👍

    Very nice video. I see you all are quite skilled in enduro. I know the 690 is a very tall bike with 91cm seat heaigh (with stock seat). Your friend seems capable to manage the moto very well , is a tall boy?

  • @mototrailz

    Michele Minucci thanks a lot. There is no tall person in this video in fact quite the opposite. Also if i were you i would focus more on the width of the seat than the actual height. 500 EXC Is 97cm but quite narrow so it works out for my 5 ft 8 body. In the end the seat height cannot be an excuse. It pushes you to be a better rider.

    Which one? I have owned a 690 in the past but never been on a 500. I did all Africa on an 1190 but want to go back and do a 2 month rip up through the middle of Africa, through some gnarly Congolese jungle, I just can't decide on 500 or 690. Which one would you take? I'm 6'2 100kg, 10-15kg of gear, will likely end up doing a fair bit of road, but in the bush it will be nasty, will have to pick up the bike 10+ times per day. I really don't know...

    True but frankly i change my oil every 2000km (i total so far 31,000km with no issue whatsoever) and the fact that i can wheelie the 500 like it is a bicycle which is not the case for the 690 then for me the 500 is definitely the winner. Also in Morocco in big dunes the 690 was a handful… not the 500. Really depends what you do with your bike. For me i push hard everywhere off road and the 500 is the way to go but it sucks so much on the road.

    The 500 has service intervals every 15 hours and a rebuild at 300 hours. You would have to keep that one just for racing. It only has 1.4lt of oil in it. Thats not going to cut it if you ride it on the road.

  • @mototrailz

    @mototrailz

    4 жыл бұрын

    Technik Meister this is where most people are wrong about the 500. I do the oil change between 20 and 30 hours or 1500km because i am not racing the bike. My 500 has 450h and no sign of rebuilding. Some people get 800h + before rebuilding. The oil capacity is 1.3L but you can extend it with a billet clutch cover. Finally the amount of pleasure and ability the 500 gives me off road is worth every bit of not being comfortable on road.

  • @jordanJohnn

    @jordanJohnn

    4 жыл бұрын

    If you have more then one bike I could understand getting a 500 but if your riding it every day you’d have to rebuild it within 6months wouldn’t you? That is not cheap. I don’t care about oil changes but top ends are rather annoying. And sure some get 800 but I’ve heard most people start wrenching on em at around 200. My heart wants the 500 but I feel like 690 is a smarter choice if I want to ride all the time, commute, explore, etc convince me I’m wrong and id be happy.

    Jordan H Aside from the maintenance angle, and I agree that it’s not as bad as the manual states because that’s for race conditions, you have to think about comfort if you plan on long periods sat down on the road - I have the exc450 and find the seat is murder after a few hours. If the 690 has a much more comfortable seat, that would weigh heavily in my mind as an all round bike.
