    I went from a 420 HP 2014 Ford Mustang, on its 3rd transmission, to a 2021 Honda HR-V EX AWD. I miss the 0 to 60 MPH in half the time, but love the 30 MPGs, utility, 'Honda Sensing', and overall bang-4-the-buck! The 2020 HR-V was Honda's most trouble-free new car model.

    Did a KZread search to figure out how to recalibrate the TPMS system in my Honda 2019 HR-V. Came upon this video and really enjoyed it. Micah was so right about the maneuvering ability of the car. This is a great city car for tight parking and getting into very very small garages typical in cities in the northeast. My street is a narrow, 2 side-of-the-street parallel parking, with cars right up to the edges of my garage. I can easily just turn right into my garage with no inching back and forth. I am far from a "car person" but my one requirement was this feature. This car is also my 6th Honda and I my first with an automatic transmission. I miss the manual transmission but the car is just GREAT.

    F Hicks shit just got real. Seriously though I completely agree. If you were going to buy this car for it’s manual transmission and ... driving dynamics? ... i think you’d be better served looking somewhere else. Considering it has a TINY inline 4 that is moving around a high center of gravity subcompact crossover it makes absolutely no sense that the lack of a manual transmission in this car would be a deal breaker. People who drive this type of vehicle don’t care about the engine, the transmission, or the suspension. They just want to push a pedal and move forward reliably. The person who commented above this is the perfect target market/age group (no offense). Long story short don’t stress out that the manual is gone because it secretly did you a favor. It prevented you from buying a subcompact suv with a manual transmission that is slower (slower than the automatic), gets worse gas mileage, and body rolls like a barge around corners. Side note, people who hold on stubbornly to manual transmissions and act like they are the only way to enjoy driving confuse me. Your friend needs to move your car out of the driveway? They fuck up the clutch operation and accidentally smash into your car/garage because no one knows how to drive them anymore (happened to me). You need a DD after a night of partying? No one knows how to drive your car and even if you are the DD, the constant back and forth rocking that happens when you’re shifting is either going to make your friends puke on the way home (happened to me) or you’ll be driving home alone. You want to valet park your car so you and your date can go right to dinner? Adding more complexity that a valet needs to handle is a recipe for disaster and/or a ruined clutch (happened to me). My friends : is it faster than an automatic? No, it’s actually a second slower 0-60. Well ... it was cheaper then, right? Nah, it was almost the same for an automatic. Is it ... fun or something? Yeah it was at first, but during the 90% of driving where you’re in the city or commuting it’s sort of cumbersome especially when everyone around you has an automatic and rides your ass as you are shifting as fast as humanly possible. Is it more efficient or something? No, you get worse, sometimes much worse gas mileage than automatics. Why the hell did you buy that then? Because it’s fun on back roads sometimes.

    Honda builds a number of good vehicles and very few truly bad ones. But their wheelhouse going back many years to the original Civic is small, affordable, economical, flexible, and reliable vehicles with more than a few innovative features. If you don't have the time and energy to undertake exhausting research on every subcompact SUV you could do lot worse than just grabbing the HRV.

    Buddy, you have no idea the full capability of my vehicle. It has a lot more tech than what you’re showing buddy. I managed to bypass Honda’s motion lock that was placed onto the hdmi feature of this vehicle. Now I can screen mirror my phone’s google maps or anything I want ( responsibly ),with detailed color satellite mode view onto my navigation screen. With high quality hdmi cords, that navigation can put out a lot of beautiful graphics. I bypassed Honda’s security protocol without any rewiring whatsoever. It had taken me two years to do find a backdoor, but I did it and it was worth every minute.

    Yes of course the CVT brings the engine up to full RPM when you put the throttle pedal all the way down. That's the way you get maximum acceleration out of the vehicle. With a properly working CVT the engine RPMs will sit statue-still at near redline - until the vehicle speed reaches the speed you want. Then you take your foot off of the throttle pedal and the engine speed falls to the most efficient engine speed for the vehicle speed. Most people DO put the throttle to the floor when merging onto a limited access highway. At least, that's what anyone would any sense would do. This gives you the best chance of getting from the ramp into a driving lane, without forcing another driver to move over, slow down, or endure having her vehicle be smacked by your vehicle. Unless the limited access highway is nearly empty, this is the only way to merge.

    I guess I've been doing it wrong. I haven't had to floor my car to merge into traffic in 30 years. Not once.

  • @soilmanted

    @soilmanted

    @@gibby237 In 55 years, I have never merged onto a limited access highway using any other method, when rolling with a vehicle with an automatic transmission. While my own cars have always had low power-to-weight ratios, and most have had manual transmissions, I have done the same thing when rolling in over-powered Ford Crown Victoria monsters. In order for me to get my drivers license at age 17, my state required a driver's education course. This was the method they taught: put the pedal to the metal. The idea is to avoid disrupting the existing traffic on a crowded highway, getting into the rightmost lane on a jam-packed highway without forcing the vehicles that are already in the rightmost lane to slow down, or move to the left. Pedal to the metal. With a typical planetary gearset automatic transmissions with a torque converter, if you put the pedal to the metal the transmission suddenly drops down to the lowest possible gear. On low-traffic highways it might not be necessary, but when everyone is rolling along at maximum legal speed or more, and everyone is following the vehicle ahead of them at the shortest safe distance for their speed, or following even closer, this is the way to do it; it's the way that expert drivers recommend. I am not saying I am an expert driver. I am saying I follow their recommendations in this instance. Even with a manual transmission - I keep the vehicle in the lowest gear possible, and the widest throttle. On a highway with few vehicles and large distances between vehicles, it is not really necessary, but it is fun to do anyway. With a CVT you don't feel jolts from gear changes, like you do with a planetary gearset automatic, and you don't hear the engine gaining speed in each gear. These seem to be some of the things that cause people to feel that the vehicle is accelerating. Only the vehicle gains speed, not the engine. So with a CVT you get less of a SENSATION of accelerating.

    This car has a design flaw. I bought a 2021 HRV on March1, 2021 and noticed an irritating piercing whistling noise on my way home when I cracked open any front window or moonroof. I brought it back to Huntington Honda twice and they said they test drove 2 other new HRVs and they made the same horrible noise. So I'm basically told this is normal on all HRVs. I wonder if Honda has a design flaw or whether Huntington Honda is sitting on a bad batch?

    @Jonathan A Everything in that segment of vehicle is slow, but it's all relative. If you look at Motor Trend and Car and Driver testing of the Crosstrek and the AWD version of the HR-V, the Crossteks average around half a second faster acceleration. You might not feel that kind of acceleration different, but is this a measurable difference that an average buyer would want noted. I don't know why you're trying to deny that.

  • @Lamar-zx5tp

    @Lamar-zx5tp

    5 жыл бұрын

    @Jonathan A As mentioned, it's relative, but it's not insignificant or even unnoticeable. Your butt dyno is obviously broken. Our family (both immediate and extended) have both the Crosstrek Premium 6-speed and an HR-V AWD EX-L w/CVT. The Crosstrek has noticeably more usable power. Power is just slightly more than adequate for highway merges, but it's comfortably more than adequate for everything else thanks to greater mid-rage torque. The car never has trouble passing on highways, even in top gear, or zipping through city streets, and it did amazingly well on a trip to Colorado recently. It was actually pretty fun to drive. In comparison, the HR-V just doesn't perform as well. I know, the Crosstrek's 6-speed kind of makes the comparison unfair, but I've also driven the CVT Crosstrek, and I'd still say the same.
