2019 Chevrolet Silverado vs. Ford F-150 Truck Comparison

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

If you know anything about trucks, you likely know practically everything about the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and 2019 Ford F-150 because these two pickups are two of the best-selling vehicles in America, hell, in the world. Fresh off a COMPLETE redesign, the Silverado is newer than its crosstown opponent by an entire presidential term. Remember, the F-150 was last overhauled in 2015 when it gained an all-aluminum body and bed. But newer doesn’t always mean better. See which full-size truck comes out on top as Craig Cole tests them head-to-head in a variety of categories including real-world fuel economy and 0-60 payload hauling capability.

I liked the Ford too and I’m a Chevy guy. The eco boost is a great motor and with the 10 speed, it returned better mileage than the GM 4 cyl. Swap in lower profile tires and firmer shocks and the ride tightens right up. I like a console shifter and the aluminum body makes the Ford much lighter for better hauling capacity. It’s a great truck that will be even better when Ford refurbishes it in a couple of years. You can find capable engine tuners who can tweak the eco boost to crank more power if need be.

You can still buy a Silverado Custom with a 5.3 LS and the much simpler and proven reliable 6L80 transmission. It can tow way more and it’s a heck of a lot cheaper. Mine has auto 4x4 (not offered in ford or dodge until much higher trim) locking rear diff, trailer package with brake etc. All the function, less fluff, less tech crap to screw up. Ford and Dodge don’t have anything truly comparable at the lower price. I could have bought a fancier truck but instead I had enough left to buy a slightly used 27’ travel trailer and a well loved (needed some elbow grease and time) 23’ fishing boat.

About a week ago stopped by a Chevy dealer and drove the Silverado 4, first I own a 2.7 Ecoboost that I love, but gotta say if I’d not known their was a 4 under the hood, I’d never guessed it felt quick, quiet and strong. I thought the interior felt a lot nicer than my xl STX and honestly the new Silverado looks better in person. The ride was just as good as my Ford too. I still like the F150, but was impressed by the Chevy. I’d give the new GM engine a lil time to see how well it does, get the gremlins worked out, but I honestly hope this 2.7 4 is a good engine, I’d still prefer a v8 in either truck, but I went price all the way and needed 4wd and a crew cab and I found my F150 for 32,000 with 10,000 off. So far 30,200 trouble free miles and it will fly, also it doesn’t look like a local water company truck.

Fluxius yea I have heard about that new Diesel engine, if in real world driving it gets that kind of MPG’s GM is going to sale a bunch, even I would have to consider one. My grandpa and Dad, were Ford guys, my fist 2 cars were Mustangs, 67 and 72, both were terrible cars, but got to admit both had had hard lives before I got them, I went the next 35 years with not one Ford in my life before buying my 2017 F150 STX and love it, never thought I’d ever own a Ford again. My theory is just about every Truck out their now Is a pretty good vehicle no matter the make. I didn’t like the new Silverado at first, but now after seeing them on the road I think they have upped Ford on styling, my favorite is still the RAM styling wise is the Rebel, but 50k + is out of the question for me.

On the other hand I know from talking to mechanics the push button start can be very expensive to fix when it eventually breaks down. I'm not a GM or Ford fan boy I simply look for fuel economy and simplicity. I wouldn't buy either of these trucks because of the complexity of their engines. I went with the 3.3L 6 speed transmission on my F150, and am quite happy with my decision. If you want to keep a vehicle for the long term, simpler is always better.

The Cadillac 3L TT V6 is still GM best effort. It came out around same time as 2.7L eco. Their is no reason to go back to drawing. If I'm not mistaken 2.7L is the one who had to be upgraded. 2.7L 4cyl T can be had on a Cadillac sedan with 10spd. It didn't replace 3L TT V6. Cadillac actually have both in similar packages. It appears GM is phasing out 2L T. Why this matter because 2.7L 4cyl will be used in GM lineup to replace either V6 or 4cyl. Basically 4 isn't a truck only motor like 4.3L V6 it replaces on 2nd trim.4.3L can still be had on AT4 and Trail Boss packages.

I completely agree about the key. That is my biggest complaint about my 2019 FX4. I did purposely choose the 5.0L, not that I disliked the Ecoboost, but I plan on handing this one down and didn't want to have to deal with a turbo motor down the road on my dime. Other then the key, I am very happy.

All of them have said they would rather have the old 6 speed transmission. They have been back and forth to the dealer with the trucks.

@@flyboy2099 , speaking only about America's sales, both Silverado and RAM easily outsell the Tacoma, but it is the most popular smaller pickup and has been since the Ranger left our market after the 2011 model. Now that it's back, Tacoma won't sell quite so many, but it may very well keep its #1 position in that market. The REAL big selling Toyota is the RAV4. Corolla is still in the top 10, but it's closer to 10 than 1 and despite all the worries some try to put into our economy and personal feelings, the bigger vehicles are still selling like an all you can eat buffet even at $25 a person. Tocoma isn't even in the top 10, but it does outsell the Tundra.

Otherwise, in 2000 miles I am very pleased with the comfort ( I am 6'1", 200 lbs) and the quietness. Love the LED lighting and the overall styling. Also I am tickled with the 4 cyl engine - averaging 21 mpg. Good video!

I currently have a 2017 Ford xlt w the 2.7 and suicide doors - the doors are truly a PITA. I just ordered almost this exact Chevy in the 2020 model year. They’re company trucks so other that a few options and colour I don’t have a choice. The Ford was ok, main problems were a worn wiring harness(truck became immobile, took 1.5 months to source the part and fix, also blew the computer as part of this), burning oil on a cold soak (there’s a tsb about it), and two recalls that never fixed my driver door from freezing up. They replaced the latch last week but charged my company for the repair. Oddly what I will miss most with my Ford is the door keypad. I lock my key in the truck on jobsites or anywhere for that matter, such a great feature I have no idea why Ford is alone on this. And the 2.7 is awesome from a performance standpoint. Like really good. I am excited for the Chevy, 4 doors will be great plus the overall package is better - heated seats are very, very welcome in northern Canada. We shall see what my employer offers for a truck three years from now.
