I only saw the winner or the half marathon and the camera people forgot about the second place and third place and almost missed the 4th place. People focus on the winners and top ten finishers at least. Gaaahh.

29:25 | Just what the commentary said, there is no distinction between the half and whole marathoners. There should be color and number type (Bold or Light) so runners knows who’s around them.

Because Austin is a city of hate. If you dont fit their weirdo narratives or their outlandish expectations, than you will be subject to ridicule and condemnation. Austin natives are arrogant assholes. I know because I lived in that town for ten years.

Because she cheated. She was previously caught taking a performance enhancing drug, clenbuterol, and once that happens your name is mud. The offense is taken serious. Do other runners do it? You betcha! But if you are caught...that's it! After the race, Heather Lieberg accused Mary of pushing her and blocking her off of the tangents. Mary also has a history of being a poor sportsman in other races.

I realize she cheated. I think any of us who know running know that. However, her punishment is no prize money. Her punishment is not removal of her place in the race is it? What ever happened to objectivity of the commentators? To actively root against a competitor is poor form. If they hate her that much just don't let her race at all.

@@garyhoover3316all opinion. she was not removed from the race...She was second place. The commentators did not root against her. They just "matter of factly" stated that she was a known cheat. But hey, why the bib coverup? Why did she continuously cut off Heather's tangents? You can clearly see Heather trying to get away from her. Heather claims that she pushed her as she passed and spit at her. Just Google the woman's name and read. She has a checkered past. www.marathoninvestigation.com/tag/mary-akor And it is not just Austin: www.sportsintegrityinitiative.com/mary-akor-denied-carlsbad-marathon-prize-money/ cityvoiceng.com/mary-akor-lies-on-eligibility-for-2018-access-bank-lagos-city-marathon/ And it goes on and on...she is a liar and a cheat and race organizers do not want anything to do with her...even in Nigeria.

@@dcutl When commenters make statements like "I hope she doesn't win" or "it would be bad for the race if she won" then they are no longer being objective. She cheated. She cheats. No dispute. She's in the race. That's where it should end. It's up to the race organizers to put her out given her past deeds. That didn't happen which means their job is to call the race. Will she cheat again? Yes, so don't let her race. If you do let her race...STFU.

build up your easy mileage over the course of about 6 months to a year. once your up to 35-40 consistently, do some strides about a month from the start of the season or all summer long, and you should have no problem breaking 20min.

Why would anyone in their right mind run 26.2 miles in one of the nation's most horrendously overrated cities. Austin is a horrible place for running and cycling. It is sprawled out and totally car centric, the natives are arrogant and dont give a damn about anyone else, and the weather is torrid and humid eight months out of the year. Both marathon and half marathon running requires a pleasant locale with friendly supportive people and an aesthetically pleasing landscape or cityscape and a comfortable mild climate. Austin fails miserably on all criteria. I know because I used to live in Austin for ten years and the town sucked. I also ran several 5K and 10K races in that town and the experience wasnt all that great and most natives loved laying on their horns because certain intersections and streets were closed to their wanting to speed to either WalMart or the pawnshop.

  • @robertpreskop4425

@@ktadema probably smaller to mid sized college cities like San Angelo, Denton, College Station would be good cities to run and bike. Galveston would also be a good city. Otherwise the small towns and rural areas of Texas would be great for running and cycling because of less traffic and air pollution. As for the larger cities and their suburbs, it is somewhat dicey because of heavy traffic and congestion.

@@robertpreskop4425 No offense to you, sir, but I've lived in Texas all my life. My brother lives in Austin. I live in the Galveston-Houston area. I run and bike quite a bit. Austin is way way way way better than Galveston/Houston. What you said about the heat, cars and natives are true of ALL Texas cities. Austin is special because it has amazing infrastructure, parks, trails, bike lanes, and better attitude than all the others. San Angelo, Denton aren't anything special, those are just little college towns. Texas has 20 of those. So does every state.

@@ktadema Austin is not better than either Houston-Galveston or any of the smaller college cities in Texas. Austin is horrendously overrated, arrogant, aesthetically ugly, sprawled out, traffic is the worst and its trails and bike paths are incomplete and mediocre at best. Its streets and roads are ill marked and poorly maintained. Austin is by far the worst city for running and cycling. It is trashy and seedy for the most part. Even more conservative cities of San Antonio and Fort Worth are better and more aesthetically attractive cities for running and cycling than miserable, shitty, sprawled out Austin. You are obviously blind to reality and need to stop drinking the toxic pro Austin koolaid.
