I needed this video! For the longest time I’ve wanted to run a Tiller 185. After watching this I think I’m sold on Single Console. You still have the amazing storage space( which is why I LOVE Alumacraft). I live on big body of water and Lake St.Clair can change on a time and I feel like having a steering wheel will help me have more control. awesome video. Yes, I’m super jealous of your rig!

It was for me. Personal preference. With the 90 you'll likely get 36 or 37 mph tops on the 185. If that works for you go for it Otherwise same boat as in this video!

Quick question. How's the battery tray under the rod locker? I just bought a competitor 185 sport and looking to run 36 volt rather than 24, I believe it has 2 battery trays under the rod locker and not sure how well it'll all fit in.

Nice choice for the motor. I'm assuming it is an Etec since you did not mention G2. Burns less oil and fuel, never have to change the oil, and can winterize it yourself. No maint for 300 hrs or 3 yrs whichever comes first, no break in period and much lighter than equivelant 4 stroke. I have the Etec 135HO (tuned to be a 148hp)on a Competitor175 CS with 4 AGM batteries and a Motorguide Xi5 and can hit 50mph with a SS prop. Had to jettison the stock aluminum prop. As TGF has said the Alumacraft boats are outstanding. My only gripe is that the storage compartments do not keep water out. I needed to add weather stripping to enhance the seal. Good luck with the new boat.

Did you happen to look into hydraulic steering? I just use 15' mirrorcraft with 25hp merc. Here in Alberta we have mostly smaller lakes so 25hp is plenty. Im looking into upgrading my sonar to the 3 screen system similar to your last boat. Any tips or recommendations when looking into sonar.

I'm going to do an update vid in the spring on things I like/dislike as well as more changes/additions I've made to the boat already. One glaring drawback to console is the amount of steering wheel adjustment required at trolling speeds vs my tiller. Other stuff too, and yes people get defensive over everything these days I'm not one of them no worries lol. Thanks for watching!

  • @thewhistler9775

@@TheGrumpyFisherman I do know about that issue, but I usually am using my minkkota on the bow to troll. A new trick I also learned is that you can also keep the main motor straight on low and use the troll motor just to steer as well. I got in some really tight stuff this summer with narrow channels through rice and other swamp. I ran the main motor and had my buddy sit up at the bow and steer as well, while watching for stuff. Having steering on both ends really made it fit into some very tight spaces.

@@TheGrumpyFisherman 1st off, Congrats on a very nice boat. You can always mount a 3rd battery in the storage compartment to the right of the rod locker. I have the Comp175cs and have a MotorGuide Xi5 36v. I have the 3rd battery in that compartment along with the 4 bank MinnKota 460pc. Since you have quite a bit of space you could easily run a 36v troller.

Thanls for watching Chris! In fairness I've only owned 3 boats, a Legend and the 2 Alumas now. I like Alumacraft because of the weight. Heaviest in it's class I believe cuts the waves like butter. Some deep v's have hull designs more geared for speed. I also love the compartment layout and storage with Alumacrafts.
