So all the leads that have harmonies are now back-tracked. Interesting. I’ll admit, their live sound did always feel just a little incomplete considering how much of their studio recordings feature harmonized guitar lines. It sounds like they’re playing all of their parts super clean, but having pre-recorded audio at the same volume level as your live guitar is just kind of lame to me. This is why I’m not a fan of the whole DI AxeFx/Helix whatever setup. No cabs onstage and you can’t even tell if you’re listening to a live musician or a laptop most of the time. At least they’re really great players and the new album is incredible. I’m going to try to see them on this tour. It’s also great to see so much energy from them onstage as they’ve been mostly statues in the past lol

it seems to me that Lucas has become better at playing, maybe Onityan had an impact, but Omans real good player

Gorge Spiteful I agree! Lucas sounds better than ever live now. I think the break from touring gave him time to get his chops back up. I hope Yo returns to the stage with them sometime to perform his guest solo from the album. One thing to take into account is that in the last line-up where Lucas toured, he was playing alongside Miles and they delegated guitar parts differently since Joel wrote lots of the leads on Lugal but was no longer in the band. Joel has an idiosyncratic style when it comes to tapping and string-skipping melodies and can use those techniques at devastating speeds. Lucas was trying to play a lot of his parts live at the time and they weren’t translating as well. Of course, nothing they play ever sounds exactly like their records because they are intentionally produced to sound artificial. But with this line-up, the band is as clean and as consistent as they’ve ever been it seems.

I think if Joel used the tremolo lever, then his sound would be closer to the sound of Lugal, at least intonation. Yo and Miles always play honestly and as cleanly as possible, for which they have great respect

Gorge Spiteful Yeah there is a lot of bar work on Lugal that is always missing live. I wonder why they don’t play with locking trem systems to replicate all the cool articulations from the record. Yeah Yo and Miles are classic raw shredders. Miles was taking the sound into a more realistic direction on Ulta Ulla and Yo is just a God and doesn’t need guitar pro or a midi piano roll to compose dope shit lol. These two may not be quite as virtuosic as Miles or Yo, but I have to say, I’m getting more and more impressed with each video I see of them. There has been significant improvement from both Lucas and Joel live I think
