I feel like the Carrera GTS is a better comparison to the AMG GT C. The T is designed as a lightweight, slightly stripped out sports car. The GTS is more powerful and luxurious, and closer in price.

Hofny Lam Unfortunately you're wrong. The 'T' has no rear seats and thinner glass, amongst other changes to the standard Carrera, making his description "slightly stripped out" correct. Read more carefully.

yes, slightly i didn't read that correctly... I read "lightweight" and it really isn't. A mere 15kg less than a C2S while losing the back seats, and having less power. I could easily take a C2S and take out the back seats, and Bang, I've created my own slight stripped out C2S T.

Honfy Lam It has suspension components, torque vectoring, and rear wheel steering from the S (if I'm not mistaken). So being 15kg lighter despite having heavier/more robust components is an achievement. TheSmokingTire's one take on it was pretty good, I recommend watching it.

I totally agree. The exterior and interior styling is so beautiful and unique that it wins my heart. Despite the Porsche being more 'nimble' and 'planted'. Koodos to Porsche, great car as expected, but AMG GT just got that x-factor, that swagger, that beauty, that elegance, that no other car can replicate

Great to see Dan again. I'd have the Merc GTC over the Carrera T any day of the week. But if it was a 911 GTS you put against the Benz, I'd have the Porsche in a heartbeat.

My 2018 T (exactly as reviewed) is my 19th 911. There is something very special about the 2018 T & 2019 T. 2 Years of production with the USA getting a very limited allocation. The last “narrow body” 911.

Great review. I watch any review that you do - great balance of content, presentation and trueness. I am a fan of Autocar. I am also a fan of your work personally.

The T is the wrong 911, the GT3 with touring package fits much better not only because of the horsepower. T and GT C are two not comperable cars...

That benz imo is basically a civilized, German viper

.....I guess one can put it like this: The stick shift 911 for the car connoisseur that looks for pure engagement, unlimited reward and the real fun of driving whereas the double clutch shifted AMG GT is for Autobahn blasts, traffic light sprints and city cruise perfection , pot. impressing spectators more as well.... both super great cars for sure but only one is a real drivers car, and that got my pick!

Always considered a life’s achievement to be able to fill out a check for a brand new AMG GT. Absolute monster of a car. It looks absolutely nothing like anything out there on the road.

Räuber Hotzenplotz yes you can. Sls was also mass produced. And the amg gt r is not as mass produced. Furthermore there will be a black series version which will be limited production. And there is the project one which also have limited production. So no its not sad.

The T is for someone who loves to drive. The C is for someone who wants to be seen in a flashy car. I just love that Porsches fly under the radar. Not show-offy at all.

Well done Dan, these videos are getting better with every one posted. However, it feels somewhat contrived comparing the lighter, cheaper Carrera T with the GT C. Surely, as pointed out bh someone else here, the GTS would be a better comparison?

I’ve got a 911.1 GTS (PDK) which i love, but close to getting the 911 T (Manual). It’s not a daily, more of a week-end car. Thoughts?

Right Conclusion. Right Spec. T Interior Pack, No Rear Seats, Manual and Rear Wheel Steering.. Future Classic for Sure.

Did this 911 T have the rear wheel steering? That for me is the reason the T is special since that is not available on the base.

Nice review Dan. The 911 is a great car, whatever model you buy, but I actually think the Cayman GT4 is the sweet spot of the Porsche range. Especially if you don't need rear seats. Exceptional value for money and second hand they cost £75,000

Sadly the GT4 was a limited production car and they really should have used the GT3 motor for maximum awesome. But yes it's great. I know where there is a new one sitting for standard list price in Ottawa (Mark Motors).

As much as i Love Porsche... The Merc... Looks, Feels, and Sounds like Batman's Car. The Porsche is Robins car. Porsche for the Track... Merc for Racing the women back to the house. The spaceship dimensions amaze you, the Long & Wide bonnet scares you, the interior warps your mind, and the Thunder of a cold start is mesmerizing... Simply put... A concept car from an Artists notepad... That you would never think they would actually build. One must actually see 👀, hear, & drive this car to appreciate how special it is. Great presentation. 💯

Porkers are very common place these days, and though they are great cars, the AMG is much greater fun. It has one of the world's greatest sound tracks, feels much lighter than it's weight suggests, is nice and pointy and overall is just so much more of a statement. Give me the AMG any day. And I come from being a long term porker driver. Nice review by the way...

For this review I'd pick the AMG GTC Coupe because for me its one of my dream cars, I love the fact that it has Rear-axle steering like the "R" variant, it has the same wide body as the GTR, I personally like the configuration of the "C" variant on MB website, if i had the finances to spec one up:/, and to me 550HP and 502lbs. ft. of totque is enough power for me considering I've never owned this car let alone a RWD one with launch control, 7speed AMG DCT etc. also if I could spec one up it would be in Designo Selenite Grey Magno, with the Night Package, the Satin black 19''/20'' wheels with the Saddle Brown/Black nappa Leather interior. I know this comment was overkill but I'll say this I appreciate the Carrera T as well its brilliant and definitely in some ways more rewarding to drive then the AMG GTC Coupe!

I'd probably pick the 911T and tune it to add another 100hp. Also you can spec it with a manual which you cant do with the merc.

Why would you compare the top of the range GTC to the entry level Carrera? Surely the standard GT would have been a more like for like comparison?

Width and visibility are under rated performance aids. Fast car that doesn't take up all the road space. And one you can see out of. Winner.

I've seen Dan so many times reviewing 911s it's almost predictable on what's he's going to say

I have seen 2018 new GT3's listed for $168K (132000 sterling) here in the States and slightly used ones even for less why are people paying 250K in the UK for them that's just crazy!

GTC for luxury, interior design (not necessarily quality), and awesome commute. The design is just so good on this car, very unique, but maybe an acquired taste for some. 911T for actual driving pleasure. And not as good a grand tour, but 991 generation is so big and comfy (although smaller than the Benz), it's insanely comfy already, at least compared to its little Cayman brother that is much more sport focused rather than comfort.

Mercedes has been building junk for years, I should know we have owned several. After buying our first Porsche it was like going from a golf cart to a Lamborghini. The Porsche build is so much better. I remember driving down the road in my E55 AMG and watching parts fall out of underneath the dashboard.

Has everyone made his choice? Ok. Well done. Now go and finally finish your homework!

Basically this review and the R8 RWS review are both comparisons that would’ve worked better with a Carrera GTS than the 911s you chose.

What he did not say is that on second hand market the carrera t is 30 / 40 k € more (in France) than an amg gt s. In thes conditions I definitely prefer the AMG plus a motorcycle (MT09) for commuting and a good old Renault Clio 182 for track shenanigans !

Hey Autocar, Hey Dan! Awesome work, as always ;) Is that possible to compare any AMG to any McLaren? It probably doesn't make any sense, and that's why I can't find any comparison in the web ;P but... The AMG has awesome engines, sound and throttle response, and McLaren's very laggy and dull. The steering and suspension looks like it is on the McLaren's side, but how much. What about the position behind the wheel, seats, balance, traction, upshifts, downshitfs ...? The question is: What AMG needs to work on, to get closer to McLaren, and is it really that far away? Or maybe it looks a bit different? It looks like an interesting comparison :) I hope You read it at least All the best ;)

Watching this ‘comparison’, it starts out just as, but ends really as which gives him the right feeling on that road at that time. Key was the manual gearbox, size and weight which are direct influencers on feel if you will. He could have ‘compared’ a hyper hatch or a lotus, and the result would have been different. Renders the comparison pointless. On another point on price the GTC comes very well optioned, the Porsche you will add easily 10k-20k, so the differential would be far less headline grabbing

Porsche always holds better resale in the long run.

Try getting a discount / competitive interest rate at a Porsche dealership! If you are buying with cash lucky you. If like the rest of us you are buying via some type of HP or PCP the Merc offers much better value on a cost per month basis. While the Porsches seem to hold thier value better at dealers, that's NOT what they will give you for a trade in. Mercedes are no better there but at least they would have given you a £6500 discount when you purchased so it's less of a slap in the face. Then there's the cost options which are a whole other topic for conversation.

I thought the GTC was a convertible . C for convertible?
