    TheStraightPipes I love you guys but y’all are tripping. Satellite radio you are limited to what is the content the channel decides to use. Spotify you customize your own content! Unless you’re talking about radio podcasts and such but music wise it isn’t even comparable. Plus, it isn’t hard to integrate on most vehicles. BMW for example the album art cover is displayed on screen and you can select next track and the like

    Have digital Radio in Australia and it's not bad , you get a selection of genres rather than having to plug your phone in and use data. Depending on the quality in the car it sounds decent too. It does in a Lexus with the Mark Levinson package anyway.

    Love satellite radio, but I agree. This is a ridiculous gripe in this day and age. It’s almost like they had to have so many negatives for the video, and this made the final cut. It’s just like the complaint on the touch screen being disabled while driving. Having said that, to each their own. I enjoy the reviews overall.

    Agreed. Of course the reps will say however you want to it fine by us, but the Americans are the only ones that pronounce it closest to correct - only substituting "z" for "tsu," but the vowels are all the correct, and yet they say "good to know we're all right"? Huh? Maybe it's my 30 years of international travel speaking, but I see no sense in that statement.

  • @dudleyfuddpucker7017

    @dudleyfuddpucker7017

    @Richard Chester: It's a Japanese name, so the only true, correct pronunciation is their pronunciation. Just because a lot of other countries butcher it does not make that mispronunciation correct, it just makes it a common error. So with regards to your question "since when did the yanks ever pronounce anything correctly?" maybe we are not 100% correct here ("tsu" is difficult for westerners to pronounce), but we are obviously much, much closer to correct than you are.

    Yeah they’re cool and stuff but they complain about the dumbest shit and not what really matters. No one really listens to the radio or extends there visors like that during an actual test drive. Not only that but they’re the only ones that have a problem with the styling of the car. Every other review praises the styling of the car. The arm rest comment was dumb too. No one has said anything about the arm rest and quite frankly it’s not that serious.

    Michael Thomas seems like you're missing the point with these guys. The fact that these things matter to them has contributed to their success, because they do matter in the real world to some people. They don't regurgitate the same stats and accepted car review lingo. Anytime you say "no one", I guarantee you, you're statement is already wrong. And the arm rests don't matter or the statement is dumb? Really?

    They'd struggle to sell a thousand a year. And a third lf those sales would be eating out of CX5 sales and another third from Mazda6 sedans. Everyone says they love wagons, but then doesn't buy them - market research says that the kind of person that likes wagons over crossovers doesn't buy new cars at all.

    I’ve driven the 18 Mazda 6 Signature & I was impressed. I liked how early the torque kicks in with that turbo 2.5L. I also like the refresh exterior & interior. I do not like the Falken tires the 6 comes with. But that’s an easy fix. What I’d like to do is take the 18 Toyota Camry XSE four & six cylinder for a test drive & see which one I like best. I sure like the bold looks Toyota went with the Camry especially in the Blue Streak paint.

    As others have said, your production just keeps getting better & better. Was a very nice setting you had for your driving footage this time around. I like Mazda vehicles well enough, but they've just never had that "thing" to push me over the hump into buying one. Mazda does not use tiny 3-cyl turbo engines and still uses the more reliable 6-speed auto and if you buy a Mazda in Europe, it's most likely built in Japan. This for me shows that they want to make cars that actually work.

    Just bought the 2018 6 GT Reserve. Will share my experiences/thoughts here in no specific order. Active Driving Display. The display brightness has more than 2 levels: it seems to adjust based on the light sensor. And it works really well: at no point did I wish the HUD was dimmer or brighter (clear in sunlight and very unobtrusive at night). Street sign recognition works extremely well: it correctly recognized a sign partially covered by tree branches. I actually drove by the sign about 50 times on my way to work before I noticed it was there. The GTR "saw" on the first try! The speed limit sign gains an orange outline when I exceed the speed limit by XX mph (options here are 0, 5, 10 mph). You can also get an audio warning, but I disabled it. Mileage. I average 36 mpg on my commute from Townsend, MA to Acton, MA. Highway fuel economy (I estimate at around 34mpg @ 75mph; I don't know how Car and Driver got 36) could be a little better, however, because top gear is quite short (Mazda INCREASED final drive ratio in the turbo). By 45mph you're already in 6th! At 75 mph the engine RPM is a rather high 2400. Low fuel warning came on after I've used 12 gallons. Tank capacity is 16.4. Manual says warning appears when 2 gallons are left. Math doesn't add up :( But the fuel economy monitor is spot on: Mazda reported 32 mpg and I went 385 miles on those 12 gallons (which is 32.1 mpg). Muting audio pauses playback (at least from USB drive). Turning the car off while playing from USB drive, then on again continues playback from the same place in the song. Clock is synced via GPS (probably in most cars, but new to me) Mazda really went above the beyond in the noise-proofing department: laminated/acoustic front side window glass, extra seal on all doors, felt-lined rear wheel wells, even the back of the glove compartment is padded on the outside (facing the firewall)! Engine: buttery-smooth below 2000 rpm (smoother than Honda's 3.0 V6 I had in my 2004 Accord). Basically you never hear it, except when starting from a stop (in 1st gear) and when accelerating quickly (i.e. highway on ramps). However, when you do hear it... well... it's not a pleasant-sounding as a Honda's 2.4 4-cylinder. Engine note is probably the only thing I miss about my old V6 Honda. Turning off audio alert for the blind spot monitoring system has the effect of muting the turn signal sound, which actually works very nicely when you're driving with a sleeping passenger, but still want to be alerted that someone's in your blind spot after putting on your blinker: the lack of any sound is the alert in itself. Brilliant! Rain-sensing wipers are a little temperamental in very light drizzle. Sometimes they wipe too often and sometimes not enough regardless of how the sensitivity dial is set. They work well in moderate to heavy rain, however. Navigation system shows the upcoming cross street fairly discreetly at the top of the display on any screen (media, fuel economy monitor, etc.). Interior trunk release button has a light. Transmission shifts between R and D instantly. Holds hear while cornering. Steering effort is light at low engine RPM (i.e. maneuvering around a parking lot), but weighs up noticeably at higher engine RPM. However, it's still a little too light at highway speeds for my taste... but I come from a 2004 V6 Honda Accord coupe known for heavy steering. Radar-guided adaptive cruise control will apply brakes if needed. Unfortunately it will apply them on a relatively slight downhill if the car is moving even a single mph over the set speed. I would have preferred it just not apply the gas. Seats are comfy overall, but the seat back has what amounts to a hump at the top (the hoop above the perforated area), which gives too much support to the shoulder area. As a result my mid back is not supported quite as well. I almost feel like there is a "hole" in the seat. I ended up handing a very thin pillow over the area just below the hump. Seats are also a little too wide for my body shape. I am 5ft10in, 160lbs. I would prefer a narrower seat back, but I see how a bigger person would find these seatbacks perfectly wide. Driving position is closer the pedals than my old accord. I have to sit with my knees bent more, because the steering wheel doesn't telescope toward the driver far enough. My wife had to push the steering wheel all the way in in the accord, but it's pretty much all the way out in the mazda when she drives it.

    Congratulations on your car ! I'm actually looking to get one myself but my ONLY concern is whether the 19" wheels make the ride harsh. Can you advise on that ? Is it smooth and comfortable for daily driving ? Perhaps I'm overthinking because I mean if Mazda designed the car for 19" wheels then they may have adjusted the suspension and NVH levels accordingly...

    Im a tech at mazda. I do PDI's on these (inspection upon arrival from manufacturer plant) everyother day and I fell in love with these. I haven't been a fan of Mazda for quite some time. But these, the quality amazes me From the undercarriage to the roof. Goes for just about any 2014 and up Mazda. When I take a customers Mazda with over 150k on the clock for a test drive the quality is still there. No odd sounds, no plastics loose making a racket. Makes me want one. As a tech I do recommend to ask for any recalls as really previous models have had recalls on the parking brake and air bags. To get them repaired asap upon purchase, not a big deal as they are a really simple fix (if they are still present that is).

    There is a difference between VENTILATED seats and COOLED seats. Those seats....are ventilated. Hence the diagram of the fan on them. VENTILATED seats basically have a fan running thru certain spots of the seat; so it's like your back is sweating on a hot day and suddenly theres a fan behind you gently blowing your back dry. COOLED seats run air conditioned air thru the seat back itself. So imagine it's a hot day and you're sweating so you go stand in front of your freezer to cool yourself off. Very few cars have actual cooled seats, I think Mercedes is one. Cooled seats suck because the coldness on your back makes it feel like you're constantly wet, and makes your pants feel like you spilled water on them.

  • @lowstandar

    These ventilated seats work amazingly well. I live in Phoenix AZ and we just had a few 115 degree days. I don't think I've ever used cooled seats but I can say these ventilated ones are too cooling for me. Once cooled I turn the cooling off. I'm not used to my back and butt being cooler than the rest of my body. Feels weird. Dealer told us the fans in the seats actually suck heat away from the seats rather than blow into them. Whatever they do, they really, really work well.

    Great episode guys - love the new Mazda 6 turbo looks, I think its the best in the segment. Not a fan of the new accord, the rear end is hideous and the camry is too radically styled for the segment if you ask me. Plus I think for what you get the Mazda is the most well priced vehicle. Ill be looking for one in a few years when I can find one used and my Mazda 3 is paid off.

    I am guessing at least 5-10% of the turbo buyers would opt for the manual if it was a modern manual with great feel and the latest manual features. People who want a manual will not automatically buy a auto, they will just not buy, if they want a auto they will buy a suv or crossover. It's hard to buy what's not available in the trim you want, even with special order. It's hard to buy what is never reviewed or advertised. It's hard to buy a six speed manual that has had very little updates in ten years... Shorter shifter, rev matching, 7 and 8 speeds, no lift, lauch control, adjustable clutch feel. It's hard to buy what is not available to look at or test drive first. It's hard to buy something that you are told be happy we offer anything, take it or leave it.. That attitude turns people away and they keep there older manuals from Mazda and Honda. Zoom Zoom without a manual a 2 door is becomeing Zoom Snore as shifts are done for you. And with the cylinder deactivation and turbo models........ It's impossible to buy what's not available at all. I miss the V6's they are dying almost as fast as manuals, companies are not getting any faster speed or MPG's with the cheaper to produce 4 cylinders, but they are getting a lighter better handling car, but the reliabilty and reparability will AUTOmatically be worse because there is a ton more parts to go bad. Very sad indeed.
