I knew a dirt contractor in South Ms that ran a lot of short frameless Palmer dump trailers. They used a single point suspension. They dumped pretty fast and were good off-road.

My son has 20 years experience with these frameless dumps. He has never tipped one but on a few rare occasions he has refused to dump in certain spots because they would have been a risk. He is also aware of this danger with loads frozen in the bed and is mindful of that as well.

  • @kenjett2434

@ you are absolutely correct and a good driver is smart enough to recognize potential problems. I know my son on occasion has refused to haul a load or dump one unless he could do it in a safer way. Didnt happen often but did happen. Some drivers buckle to the pressure and thats when accidents happen.

@ thanks my son has been doing it alot of years now. He is currently driving with Penske trucking out of a depot here in WV. His main loads have been aluminum coils and plate out of Kaiser as his company has a contract with them. But for years he worked for R&J Trucking and a independent operator Chris Drayer those were all mostly all frameless buckets.

I watched a real veteran truck driver roll one of those rigs over in Cheyenne, WY in 1993... dumping snow! Sad, sad day, the truck had 19 hours on it, the trailer was brand new and the driver retired right after. Beautiful blue W900 right here.

  • @vidoman362

I wished all the dump sites I've dumped at were this level. I've had to dump in high winds, on sand, and soft spongy soil. They will tip, I never laid mine down, several close calls though. I pulled a box, not a barrel like the one in this video. The company I pulled for had a couple barrel beds. They're lighter weight and allows you to haul more material. Most of the time your paid by the weight, so you want a light weight trailer. My trailer had a 10' spread axle, which allowed us to scale more.

From what I can find it seems these types of frameless dump trailers are great for specific jobs with big loads on stable surfaces. Everyone here is saying they're unstable but the fact is any dump trailer can flip easy enough if you aren't on top of things. It doesn't take a genius to realize that that style of dump trailer doesn't replace smaller & more stable trucks. It's definitely not something you want to let a new guy run, that's for sure!

Looks like any typical triaxel load....am I missing something here? 50' trailer all of 10 tons being dumped each time?

Is that one of those trailers you don't want to run across the bridge empty on a very windy day? Damn pretty truck.

Hobby trucking ? Nice idea sketched on the bar coaster, not so good in practice . Any hangup in the head generally results in a layover and you need a firm level surface to dump onto . Still, a pretty rig ! Keep'em comin' Chris !

I see a lot of comments about these end dumps tipping over a lot. It's true they do but if you know what you are doing you won't have any problems with tipping. Been doing it for years and my father-in-law many more years neither one of us have laid a trailer over yet (knocking on wood lol)

I can see the mudflaps being ripped off the trailer in the back while hauling stone. Make a note of the size of the hydraulic hose that goes to the lift cylinder for the trailer can you imagine how many gallons of fluid must go through that relatively small hose to extend that cylinder and then back through the hose back into the tank.

its shiney... but is it worth it? slow to turn around, slow to dump, slower to lower, sketchy as frig when dumping, and can really only carry a little more then a quad axle, and likely less then a truck and trailer, legally out this way it would be limited to 74,500# because axle spacing where a t+t with enough axles could go to 105,500, and be safer... its shiney though.

That Kenworth and dump trailer are almost too pretty to use on a construction site. It's a good thing that site is level!
