Great job on the video! You are spot on about the rear brake dust issue. I clean mine every time I wash the bike and it is always covered in the stuff. I ride a 2019 Tour Manual. Keep up the good work.

It is so easy to do on the new GW. Reminds me my FJR. Mine was 1.5 oz low after heading back from the dealer first ride on a 2020. I do not trust anyone but my own eyes. It took me mins to add more and done deal. The dealer clearly didn't check. I would change it every oil change. After all, it cost pennies to do and worth it.

If you don’t mind getting down on the ground, it’s very simple to do and gives peace of mind knowing it’s right.

Good video. Just a caution on the gear oil also used as clutch oil, this is not the case. The gear oil is only at the rear of the shaft. The clutch is much further forward at the transmission. There is no need to do a clutch alignment after changing the drive shaft oil.

Great video, where did you get syringe?

The service manual says to slowly rotate the rear wheel while draining the oil.

So it says dct tour, so does that mean the final drive fluid change is different than the manual?

Gear oil never looks dirty, is a closed system with no combustion. On Harleys they run it well over 20,000 and it comes out perfectly clean.

Rick, are you planning to install magnetic drain plugs for all 3 bolts? I hear those are very strong magnets.

That's actually a really good suggestion. I had not planned on it but I do have them installed on the oil pan of a hot rod that I own and they pick up all sorts of crap you would not expect to be circulating in your systems.

If you have the standard model, would this be the same procedure? And I STOPPED even trying to keep rear rim clean. Is there better brake pads that don’t dust so much? Answered, never mind

Hi Jay. I can't confirm about the manual transmission bike but if it has a rear diff, the process would be the same. The fluid level to fill it may differ but you can confirm with your owners manual. Oh dear lord, the brake dust. I feel ya my friend. Keeping that rear wheel clean is a huge chore. I just did this yesterday and I am always left scratching my head. I highly recommend a good Iron/brake dust remover. Chemical Guys, Griotts etc. all have them. Some are better than others. I use Chemical Guys Decon Pro Iron Remover. Sometimes hard to get from their website but easily had on Amazon. Spray it on a dry wheel, and spray off with a hose. I can stretch out the times I clean the wheel every 500-600 miles. Winter in the North East may present its challenges since I can break out the hose but I now have it down to a 15 minute process. As for the brake pads that don't create dust. Unfortunately, that mouse trap hasn't been invented yet. Some pads shed worse than others but I am very happy with the stopping power and life of the OEM pads. Not sure I would be willing to sacrifice that for a pad that sheds less.

Thanks for making this video! I just bought my 2018 wing back in Feb 2020 and was wondering if I should do this procedure in my next oil change. I have heard some people claim their gear oil was not filled correctly at the dealer when they purchased but how would one know that? Would you hear anything unusual? Probably? Good stuff..👍🏻

Hi MotoRider41 - first let me say congrats on the new bike. My personal opinion is to change it now. When I bought my 2018, it had virtually no fluid in the rear diff. Luckily, I had already decided to change it on my initial 500 mile oil change. I shocked to see the fluid so low. I did not notice any symptoms such as noise etc but I would imagine if you did hear noise, its probably too late. Since the procedure is so easy and cheap to do, I don't even bother checking the fluid level. Instead, I just change the oil. And in doing so, at least you will have peace of mind knowing its right.

@@motorider4130 let us know how you make out. It also won't hurt to do a DCT reset while you have the rear wheel up off the ground. Oh wait, that's if you have DCT.

Ride'n with Rick will do. i actually have the 6-spd manual non-tour that I just added the oem trunk to...great deal on the non tour but I knew I would be adding the trunk later on. That was a job and a half 😂😂

I find any work done on this bike can be a major undertaking. Once you pull the plastic off though, it doesn't seem so daunting the next time around. I think I am done on the upgrades other than a "possible" Traxxion suspension upgrade. We shall see on that one.

What brand and type of syringe is that?

That’s correct. Only gears packed in there.

May I ask when you did your 1st oil engine change did it take a little more then required?? I did my 1st on my 2020???

Hi Phillip. I did my first oil and filter as well as the rear diff oil at 400 miles. My second change was around 8000

@@ridenwithrick3771 yes I missed my brake point but my question is did your bike need more oil then it required? I checked the levels several times until the line was in the middle just like you supposed to but I really needed more then it said.?

I’m sorry Phillip. I didn’t answer the second part of your question. Seems to me mine took a little more than required. Not much though. Make sure you check your oil while the bike is upright and don't screw the oil stick in when doing so.

Bethlehem is a hop, skip, and a jump from where I live.

So it is recommended to do on the side stand and not the center stand ?

For a DCT model bike equipped with a Centerstand, the 2018-2019 Service Manual states to put the bike on its Centerstand. And before you knock me up for a misspelling, Center Stand is referred to as Centerstand in the Honda service manual.

Yes only gears. My mistake. If I edited every word that came out of my mouth in a KZread video, I would never get through a video. I’m surprised you didn’t pick up on me calling something a gasket when in reality, it’s a seal. Cut me some slack my man. I’m just putting out these videos to help others.
