I just got my CB1000R and have been riding in rain mode for now because it has been raining , great is the word that describes the pick up around town where I have been mainly using it and in part on main roads. Pick up is very satisfying being able to leave traffic without any fuss or drama. It is very well balanced at low speeds providing confidence in U-turns and filtering. The steering is direct giving very good feedback which inspires you to change direction with ease. The exhaust note is a low satisfying hum accompanied with burbles and pops when you release the throttle and change gear, A great bike that looks, sounds and runs, and will keep you thinking you are lucky to be able to ride it.

I'd have one. Plenty enough power for the roads and only a nod towards retro, rather than the full blown trying to crack on it's an old bike with modern engineering. Good job Honda 👏

I studied this bike for a year and just had to have one. Found a leftover 2018 in black - which is what I wanted anyway. Still too much silver on it for my taste, so I blacked it all out - a real head turner. No, it's not the baddest bike on the block, but it's certainly the best looking. Besides, in normal use, who needs more than 145 HP? I traded in a VFR1200F for this bike and I'm happy as hell with it. It'll keep up with the VFR up to 80 MPH, and believe me, 467 pounds is a lot more fun than 600 pounds. Smoothest engine in the world, and, yes, the muffler sounds just fine. Plenty of torque in any gear - even in 6th at 25 MPH it's got smooth strong acceleration. I've never ever been burned by a Honda, from my Super-90's in the '60's, my first true love CB750 in 1970, a CL450, V45 750, V65 Sabre, V65 Magna, VFR1200F, and now this beauty. I love this bike. Call it Naked, call it NeoSports Café, call it whatever you want - it's a great bike.

I picked up mine as an ex demo. Loved the looks. Feels much more robust than an XSR900 etc, shit tonne of power and torque. It's a real split personality beast. 6th gear 35+ for cruising, or lose your license in second. Very comfy and compliant too, while being composed and engaging. Nice balanced review :)

Yup. I wasn't even close to looking for a bike like this, when I was out to get a new bike. I was looking for a cruiser. Then I saw the 650 in a showroom, sat on it, looked at it again and was directly in love with it. Then I found a used CB1000R and because I'm not the smallest of guys, I just felt a little less cramped on it. The 1k, being a 2020, was only 1k Euro more expensive than the new 650. It was a little out of the budget at the time, but I'm so glad I got it. It's a few steps up from the 650 and I'm so happy with it.

I have this bike now for more than a year, this is a brilliant machine, quite short and nippy, very jumpy and angry on the throttle. Very exciting and easy to ride, feels like a bicycle. Very good looking and versatile (can be a daily rider, long distance and for a track day). Softer springs, so if you want to use it on the track you could benefit from a stiffer springs or a different cartridges in the forks but than you should get a track focused bike if softer springs are a problem. You will not make a mistake if you buy this, trust me, just do it!

As a current XSR900 owner, I definitely covet this bike - the fit and finish is far higher on this bike than my Yamaha. The look of the bike - imposing, road presence, beautiful and probably would not need to mod that much. Whilst I am pretty happy with my own bike, I do wonder what it would be like to have the CB1000R. Fantastic review as usual.

I had mine for 6 months and the only gripe i had with it were the handlebars and the exhaust, saved a few kilos with akrapovic short exhaust and it reveals the single sided alloy wheel which is hidden by the stock exhaust a lot more, and the Rizoma bars just give it that much more confidence in the corners and you don't feel like you are overstretched all the time, the stock riding position is fantastic if you are 6ft or above but im 511 and need more backsweep.

Great review as always, John. Right up there with the best motorcycle reviewers in my opinion. Curious to know your top 3 supernakeds? And how you rate the Honda against the 2018 Speed Triple? My daily bike is a 2015 Speed Triple, and I love it, but I test rode the 2018 Speed Triple RS and it was impressive; significantly better than my 2015. But it is a little pricey now... Also, interested to know which tyres you rate (sport/sport touring), as you didn’t seem overly keen on the S21s. I know it’s personal preference and all that, but I was quite impressed with the S21s on a few different bikes that I’ve ridden. Thanks, and keep up the stellar content. Matt

This guy is an incredible host with a wealth of knowledge, great review you guys. The only thing I can suggest is to match the music of riding footage in volume/tone/style to the review being spoken. This host has a very calm demeanor, and a lower volume or even less volume-to-bike engine riding noise would be helpful. Other things that I think would be incredible is slow-motion footage. I take this from Chris Harris and Neil's car reviews, they utilize a soft demeanor in tone (like this reviewer!!) with slow-motion footage and subdued music to create little works of art. You've got the host, you've got the camera work, it just needs some nice editing. Good luck, great work!

More a Triumph Thruxton R or RnineT competition than a hyper naked warrior. In the same vein as those two bikes styling as well. It offers more comfort and less taxing ride than a Thruxton or RnineT. It's an easy bike to ride the country hilly back roads near me. The initial softness of the suspension lets it down at full boogie, yet absorbs the derelict road conditions found around me better than most. Looks are subjective but I find it to be a good looking bike. Much like a Ducati xDiavel S treatment in a standard bike.

The engine is based on the 06-07 Fireblde engine, not 08. You can tell since it had an oil level sight glass and not a dipstick. Also this engine is 998cc (75mm x 56.5mm) just like the previous CB1000R and 06-07 Fireblade. The 08+ engine is 999cc (76mm x 55.1mm). Seems the only hardware differences to the old 998cc engine is binning the hydraulic clutch for a cable actuated and adding a slipper clutch.

This bike is definitely built for my exact tastes in style and power. I like a more classic upright style but with modern features (HID lights and electronics), and although I like the style, I do not want to ride something such as a Triumph due to it having only 98 hp, after having a 185-ish hp GSXR1000. The only problem for me is that insurance quotes for this bike (in America) are astronomical, just as if I bought a liter superbike. If only they would have left the R off of the name to fool the insurance companies (lol), just as how Suzuki does with, say, the GSX-S1000 which is literally 1/3rd of the insurance quote rate due to it not being classified as a R type sportsbike as I've run into with the CB1000R. If I could get a CB1000R with GSX-S1000-ish insurance rates, I'd buy one for sure. Unfortunately, the insurance is the only thing that keeps me from buying this absolutely beautiful motorcycle when I could buy something like a XSR or GSX-S for less than half of the cost to insure.

We review lots of Triumphs because they invite us on their launches, not all of the manufacturers do. Patriotism doesn’t come into it for me, I just like bikes and don’t really care where they’re made. We’ve got plenty of features planned for 2019 (rather than just straight reviews of new models), hopefully we’ll be able to have some fun with a few different manufacturers in our efforts to keep our growing audience happy. @@johnhogan8177 I suppose it's unavoidable to a certain extent, especially if you really do like the bikes. The problems with the BMWs concern the never ending series of golden reviews relating to the new middle class GS models, especially the 750, and their insane prices and lack of obviously worthy real world features such as actual windscreens and adjustable forks compared to other bikes in that category. Some things about those reviews just don't add up.

I test rode one a few days ago. I ride a BMW S1000RR and wanted something more upright as a companion. My hour long test ride wasn't great. The power and torque was good, plenty for the road. The annoying horn and indicator reared it's head but what I couldn't accept was my groin being buzzed constantly. This bike vibrates through the tank and I couldn't find any point to make it disappear, from 30 to 85 and through the revs, buzzing constantly. I cut the ride short and gave the bike back. I like to go for a few runs for a few 100miles, but not on this. The bike had around 1500 miles on it, the salesman said it's a natural feature of inline 4's? Have a ride on one, you may have a better experience.

Damn, LOVE this bike from the moment it was revealed but I'm so broken up between this one the new CBR650R and the Firebalde. I know they're all different and in different categories but can't help loving them as Honda has really upped their game. Currently ride a Kawasaki and the only reason I'd get the new Ninja ZX6R is because of the price but I am not at all a fan of the new front end. I like that you get a lot for your money but I'm also tired of Kawasaki's boring paint schemes. I mean even on this CB1000R the black one screms at me and I've never been a black bike kind of guy. Then there's the CBR650R, LOVE the styling but I don't like it's a bare bones basic bike unlike this one or a Fireblade. Then there's the Fireblade, Love the new looks and styling but the price is up there. I'm in no hurry to upgrade but it's a difficult decision.

IMHO scoop up a new old stock 2018 ZX6R while you still can if you are wanting a bike with zero miles. Might get a good deal and yeah, the 2019 is a step backwards in looks. Price would be closer to the cbr650r without the unpleasant vibrations that the honda is reported to have.

I personally want the CB650R, I loved the look of the 1000, but 1000cc's are too much for me, my 650's have plenty enough power on the streets, and the Honda has even more power at 95, that's 20+ more hp than my bikes! But it's the looks that are incredible! And like you I prefer a more flashy colored bike rather than stealth, but the black on that neo-retro design just looks so sleek!

The only thing I'd like to see more from this bike is either more torque or less weight.. A nice 10-15 ft lb torque increase or lose 30-40 pounds, better yet do both and you have a massively fun bike with unparalleled style and a unique market.

To me, more isn't always better, that's why I want the 650 version of this bike. But, that's the same reason I see this bike as better than the competition, they have too much power, add to it the better looks on this bike and the famous Honda quality, and how easy Honda's are to ride, and you have a winner in my book.

I’ve owned a 2022 CB1000R for exactly a year and rode an MT09SP just 3weeks ago.. They’re quite different bikes and I’d urge you to test ride one to appreciate those differences. My thoughts are that the Honda is easier to ride as the fuelling is better than the MT09, particularly around town. However, it’s not as manoeuvrable as the MT09, nor is the suspension quite as good. The Honda’s engine is slightly more refined being a four, and is a fair bit quieter when you’re pushing on. Again, it’s horses for courses as the MT09’s engine is like a growling bear; a bit more involving. More character. I’m not about to change ….. but it’s a close run thing. One final plus point to the Honda is a slightly sportier riding position. Hope that’s of interest.

Excellent review - thank you! I currently ride a 2017 Honda CB500F (my first bike after getting my license) - I have been considering moving into the CB1000R as my first "real bike". I am not so much a speed demon as I am a performance/handling nerd. Also I would like to move into a bike that would lend itself to longer road tours - the current crop of 2019 Adventure/Sport Touring models left me kinda flat at the IMS show in January. Do you feel the CB1000R is comfortable enough and manageable enough to do long riding days on and set up with some bags? Thanks again (subscribed).

I think this bike will sell based on reliability, the rest of the field might not be worse in that aspect but everyone know about Honda-reliability. So if someone wants a super naked and have heard Ducati, KTM and Aprilia have less than a perfect record they might gravitate towards the Honda. Just a guess.

compared to the competition the engine and design of this is far superior maintenance wise, aside from the fact it will probably never even need it. Even my carbed CBR600 F4 from 99 valves were in spec after 60k miles.

This is easily the best-looking naked on the market. If I wanted an inline four, I'd buy this. Just about the best reviewer on the net.
