My mother never bothered to tell me that my grandmother was interested in Natives/Indians. On my father's side I have Native in me and I could have shared and bonded with her over it before she passed away. These powwows are very soothing to me, I can feel her warmth when I virtually partake in these.

Why did we use plains tribe attire for all pow wows? We used to have many different looks from many tribes across the land, from the northern tribes, southern tribe west coast tribe, and east. Now every tribe is dressed like the plains nations.

I think some of the first big public pow wows like Craterville Park or the Anadarko Expo just happened to take place in an area where most of the dancers were from plains nations. I'm not 100% on it, but I also read somewhere that the Ponca were some of the first to hold inter-tribal social dances (like purely social - no ceremonial component at all) back in mid to late 19th century (also in Oklahoma at that point). As a result, the plains attire proliferated with the growth of the pow wow circuit in the 20s and 30s. The attire probably just stuck because over the last century it became kind of a tradition in its own right. What Sentinel said though, mix it up if its what your into. Just to throw out an example from closer to home, the Fiesta Powwow in San Antonio always has people in Conchero regalia like what gets worn in Mexico - which is super different from plains nation attire.

Not true...depends on what region you go to, every powwow has different tribes performing more than others in certain locations depending on if those tribes can make it to those locations .....like if you went closer to the new York area six nations tribe you will see different attire and down south Florida the Seminole tribe...
