2018 Audi S4 3.0T Premium Plus Test Drive Video Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Audi S4 is all new for the 2018 model year. With a careful balance of sleek styling, interior refinement, and precise handling; the S4 is taking the compact luxury sedan segment to new heights. The S4 3.0T Premium Plus model has an MSRP price of $50,900.
There are a few ways to distinguish the S4 model from the A4 model. Up front the S4 grille is finished in platinum. Moving to the side, the wheels have a unique 5-spoke sporty design and the mirrors feature a platinum cap. Out back there is a subtle trunk spoiler accompanied by a dual quad tip exhaust and a platinum trim rear diffuser.
Maybe the most important upgrade over the A4 lives under the hood. The 2018 Audi S4 is powered by a turbocharged V-6 that makes 354 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. of torque. The transmission is an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic which send power to the quattro all-wheel drive system. 0-60 MPH flies by in 4.4 seconds.
Inside the S4 the interior is everything you love about the A4 with an added sporty touch. The Audi S4 competes against the BMW 340i xDrive and the Mercedes AMG C43.

Have had one for a couple weeks and I absolutely love it. Had a BMW 335i M sport previously and liked it but the Audi blows it out of the water in terms of performance, feel and fit and finish. Feels a ton faster.

Oh they look way better in person, pictures don't do it justice. I almost got a 2016 A4 on a lease and I'm glad I didn't because it looks like they improved on the previous model so dramatically. The only thing in my mind that would grab my attention away is the BMW 335i xDrive 😆

I got my 2018 S4 2weeks ago and I love it. I got the Black Optic package with red interior and Mythos Black exterior. Only missing the technology package but I'm ok with that.

I'm pretty sure they still pipe the air through an intercooler, not directly from turbo to the intake manifolds. In fact, I bet it's a HOT V configuration, with exhaust in the middle and intake on the outside. You stil get turbo lag.

  • @damefaso

Maybe you know, are Hot V setups any good other than reduced turbo lag? I've read that this configuration increases heat soak, worst example M5 and M6

I have 2010 S4, love the car, has its problems, could be a bit faster. Why cant BMW just make the M3 AWD with optional RWD mode like they do with the new M5 and we will all be happy!

I really don't think it's competing with the 3 series and C-Class... That's the A4's world. S4 is the same size but has performance more in line with the M series.

The most important question that has gone un-answered here, is the B9 Generation as involving for an enthusiast as the B8 was. There have been reviews by Car & Driver and other reputable sources that have reported, even though it's fast and refined, this Generation is less-involving due the electric steering rack and being more isolated from the road. I'm not some idiot 25-year old and will buy a car just based on Horsepower/Specs. As KZread Channel, Everyday Driver always says, "You can't drive a Spec sheet."

A well-done overview of the car, but the speaker places an awful lot of emphasis on the word "platinum", which Audi uses nowhere in any of its literature about the S4--not in the order guide, not on the window sticker, nowhere. The pieces he refers to as "platinum" look no different than the standard A4. He would've been better off showing you an S4 with the black optic package, which would've given you a blacked out grille, 19" 5-spoke wheels, and (perhaps most importantly) body-colored side mirrors, as opposed to the aluminum (not platinum!) ones. the quick, easy, tell-tale signs you're looking at an S4 vs an A4: the "S4" logo in the front grille, the "V6T" badge on the front quarter panels, none of the S4 wheel offerings are available on the A4, the brake calipers (if red, dead giveaway it's an S4), the trunk lip spoiler, and the quad exhaust. That's it. There's no black optic package (yet) for the A4, so if the S4 has the black optics, it will have a black grille and body-colored side mirror housings. Body-colored side mirror housing are standard on the A4, so if you see those, remember, you're not looking at an S4 unless the grille is also black.

In the video, I mention that the S4 is so competent that it doesn't really require much skill to drive quickly. I'd consider this a negative for those that really like to engage with their vehicles. It's fun, to be sure, but not overly exciting to drive quickly.

I own a B8 S4. The twin clutch is awesome to use and there is no lag with the supercharger. It has a remap so power builds all the way to the red line. The tablet thing dropped on the dash is rediculous, the auto sucks and it isn't pretty. I also own a M335 BMW and its no where as good a car as the Audi.

So, the E46 S54 makes 333hp NA, and ~100hp less torque. Hmm, I think the S4 is much underpowered for a +10 year newer car as it's supercharged. It should be ~300hp NA, and over 100hp more with this supercharger.

  • @chrisak49

The Wisdom of the FlashGordon Yes. It had both since it was a custom order that someone decided to cancel. The differential is great. It feels like a great fix for Audi's usual understeer. Much better than the brake vectoring some manufacturers are doing. The dampers to be honest I couldn't feel much of a difference. The car is firm in any mode.

Brandon Evans more unique technology? Mercedes doesn't offer a digital dash on the c-class, doesn't have a Google earth map navigation. C class also doesn't have massaging seats like I found out today that the S4 has. Specifically what technology are you talking about?

  • @blexy350

    @blexy350

I guess I should not have said that statement. I did not know Audi offered that regarding the dash. But referring to the safety and driver assist technology in the c class. But to the e class, the contour cabin design and innovation of drivetrain. I do know they offer dual high res dash in the s class. I personally don't need massaging seats. I did sit in an A8L and experience that.
