2018 15" MacBook Pro Review
Ғылым және технология
Lisa Gade reviews the 2018 15” Apple MacBook Pro with Intel 8th generation 6 core Coffee Lake Core i7 and Core i9 CPUs, up to 32GB DDR4 RAM and a True Tone display. The Mac has a 2880 x 1800 IPS display with wide color gamut and excellent contrast, the 3rd gen Butterfly keyboard with quieter switches, the new Apple T2 coprocessor and the Touch Bar. Lisa takes a long look at CPU performance, temperatures and throttling in real life applications in this review.
We use the higher end $2,799 pre-built config with the 2.6 GHz Core i7-8850H, AMD Radeon Pro 560X, 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD in this review.
** Note that this video was published before Apple released their July 24, 2018 supplemental OS update to fix excessive CPU throttling.

Because it's not a "Pro" device in any way. They decided to sell basically a macbook air with a better screen and removed all the things that made the pre-2016 Macbook Pro an actual Professional Device (good keyboard, excellent connectivity). And Apple is being sued for their stupid butterfly keyboard that works like crap and is too stubborn to give consumers what they want which is the old Macbook chassis and keyboard that was better in every way except thin-ness. And I said this who gladly paid the Apple premium and bought the Macbook Pro Retina 2012 on release. It actually had features I could use and needed and was willing to pay a premium for. There's not a damn reason to pay the Apple premium for the new MBP except for the fact they are thin and have OSX.
THIS IS THE 2018 MACBOOK PRO REVIEW I WAS WAITING FOR!!! YOU’RE THE BEST!!!!

This best MacBook Pro Review I saw on the youtube after watching about 30 channels. This is an unbias, practical, positive youtube channel XD
Excellent review. No fluff, no filler, answering all the lingering questions from other reviews.
After a wave of unboxing videos and "my 24h experience" ones we finally get a true review! Thanks Lisa!

OWNorDisown sorry mate but il just stick with you! Lisa she's a fantastic reviewer too!
Definitely the best review I have seen in youtube. The other reviewers I have seen were usually emotionally driven in their reviews, which I absolutely hated, or simply less thorough. They focused on one negative aspect of the 2018 MBP and just could not see past that. Commenters on those other reviews were even worse... It's annoying when people write irrational comments because they hate Apple rather than discuss pros/cons in a reasonable manner. There are tons of both pros and cons to look at objectively... Anyways, thanks for the review.
So far the only review on KZread I've seen that thinks to use a fan control app to reduce the thermal throttling. Kudos!
My first review from Lisa and I am blown away. Absolutely fantastic. Thank you!
Lisa, you are hilarious-you are one of the best tech KZreadrs around! Thank you
Spot on about the SSD, I noted to that particular reviewer that he was hitting the APFS instant duplication feature rather than pure controller performance, no change made to the original article. It's a fast SSD, but not several times faster than the other similar SSDs like he thought.
Great review Lisa. Only reviewer I've seen to know about mac fan control software. Great overview.
Was waiting for the review, great job, as always!
I'll bet that silicon cover on the keys plays a part in restricting airflow through these rigs.

Loving the review!! I appreciate the light mood and low amount of bias you present throughout the video. Most reviewers are usually biased and it’s off putting, but you kept the comparisons mostly fact based with light opinionated inputs. Love it
I really hope in 2019 they revisit the touchpad & keyboard design + scrap the touchbar. They really got the keyboard and trackpad right with the 2012 rMBP IMO - wish they would've kept that design.

As always the best reviews! thanks, Lisa.
I just love the Apple eco-system. I switched in 2009 from Windows, and it's just such a different experience. I do like both Windows and macOS though, but if i have to choose it will be macOS. But that's personally of course. I don't think that you should go with the i9 given the fact that it throttles so much, but the 32gb ram option is very welcome. I think that even the base cpu is great given the fact that it's a 6-core. I know Windows laptops already have such laptops, but it still amazing to see this transition over to laptops. Imagine having 8-core (or more) in a laptop. It's crazy to think about it but this will surely come. I believe even some Android smartphones have more then 6-core cpu's (not sure about that one) and i know that tv's also already have 6-core+ cpu's. I just think it's so great to see this evolution. But then again, i love technology 🤓

THANK YOU Lisa for nailing this review! Keep giving honest accurate reviews! I finally walked away from mac and bought myself an Aero 15x with 8th gen, which is all upgradable, and comes with a dual ssd, 1070 8gb graphics (max Q), all the best ports, and an amazing screen. I bought it it on amazon for $2069 including tax on amazon. I bought an Samsung 960 evo m.2 a few months ago for like a $120, which I plan on using as my second ssd in my laptop. In total I spent $2189 for all that which includes taxes
Does it have USB Gen 2 type A port? -> No Does it have an SD card reader? -> No Does it have an ethernet port? -> No Can you upgrade down the road? -> No Does it perform as intended? -> No Is it Expensive? -> Yes Does it have showoff technology so that they can charge extra? -> Yes Apple's definition of Pro btw

Why can't they just raise their TDP to 150W and make it thicker with proper cooling and a larger battery? Or switch to Ryzen APUs so they only have to put a heatsink on one component?
@stephen_l1474
6 жыл бұрын
Street Guru Apple isn’t in charge with the tdp, and making a Mac thicker? Apple engineers will sacrifice their lives to prevent anyone from making their laptop 0.1mm thicker. And by the way there were news a few months ago saying that Apple will switch to AMD processors from 2020.
@diegochavezisntmanam

because that would make too much sense! i guess theyre worried about losing the customers that only care about aesthetics?
@streetguru9350

It's more likely apple switches to ARM if Adobe is porting all their software to it, but Ryzen mac products would be really neat, and it'll raise AMD's stock price a ton. I meant more don't use USB type C for the charger, or just over engineer it so it can take 150W for a better GPU.
@MichaelGGarry
6 жыл бұрын
They have their TDP target and they stick to it, I can see why they do it even if I don't always agree with it. But not having at the least the new AMD APU's as an option is criminal.
@theblackboyjoe
6 жыл бұрын
Isn’t there a limit of 100wh for batteries before you need approval from airlines to take them on planes. If you increase the tdp to 150w battery life would be like 70 minutes even with the biggest batteries possible.

I kinda agree, starting with their (lack of) mac pros! Pro machines need processing, therefore cooling. Reviewers seem happy with their iMac pros, albeit with their WICKED pricing. As they say, they painted themselves into a corner with their 6.1 Darth Mac Pros heat dissipation, and I would add also with their spaghettifying defunct TB 2 connection. Firewire, firewire 800, thunderbolt 1, usb 3, esata thrown in for good measure... I call it the lost decade of connectors. I stuck with eSata ot externals with my 10 year old macs because the PC market helped bring their price down. I hope the 2019 mac pro EMBRACES the pc component market. My 2008 3,1 macpro cheesegrater has a flashed Nvidia 680 w/ 4GB, an esata card for external backups, an extra FW800/usb 2.0 card to keep devices hooked up instead of switching. I have the Caldigit usb 3.1 usb-c and esata card on the way for high speed card reading and backup. Plus I boot off of a SoftRAID 8Tb raid infested with HighSierra! High Sierra let me work the new tools in the prod bundle, albeit slowly! All on mac pro 3,1. Cost of High Sierra hardware update? $140 caldigit usb3 esata card $50 softRAID lite app (big thanks to Mark James in tech support) $15 sata & ide cable rerouting. This expandability is what a mac pro should buy you. Its very PC-like, but with the stability that, granted, a limited “walled garden” OS like mac OS will give you... Oh and I rock Battlefield 4, day Z and Space engineers via steam on the windows bootcamp. Apple, make the 2019 mac pro a BIG box with BIG fans!
