I'm sure you'd figured it out by now, but just in case you're still wondering his movement is very slight, so it's hard to see, but the movement is just enough for the intended effect. The subtlety is why he's so good. Never got to touch hands with him but just from his video, you can see his skill is quite a bit better than the other high level practitioners here, and he's always a best and a half ahead of his partner

This is a very silly way to train. If you practice pushing and pulling people around the place, you might get better at that...but that's not what push hands is about. How is someone supposed to develop the ability to stick, follow and listen when their opponent is constantly trying to get one over on them? In our club, we are taught that push hands is a cooperative effort where both parties are simultaneously developing their skill by following the pattern and applying principles. Very rarely I might make an agreement with someone of a similar skill level to have fun with testing each others ability to neutralise active attempts at destabilising each other but there isn't much to be learned from that, and there is zero benefit from being pushed around by a more skilled practitioner, other than to bolster their ego.

  • @macrumpton

I was thinking the same thing. Nobody was trying to yield and listen, it was barely constrained resisting and shoving, except that Adam is at a whole different level. Of course this is just a 1 week workshop, but surely many of them are experienced?
