2017 Mercedes E-Class Crash Test - Better than 5 Stars ★★★★★

Mercedes-Benz is opening the world's most sophisticated crash test centre with the new technology centre for vehicle safety (TFS) in Sindelfingen. The new building with its numerous test facilities opens up completely new possibilities, e.g. for vehicle-to-vehicle tests, the configuration of assistance systems and PRE-SAFE®, and for the verification of vehicle concepts using alternative drive systems. The technology centre will also play its part in ensuring that Mercedes-Benz remains the pacemaker for the global car industry in the future. The investment amounts to a three-digit million euro sum.
"In recent years we have extensively expanded the Mercedes-Benz Technology Centre in Sindelfingen: Alongside the driving simulator, wind tunnels and the drive integration centre, the technology centre for vehicle safety went into operation very recently," says Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler AG and CEO of Mercedes Benz Cars. "This once again demonstrates that the heart of the automotive industry beats in Sindelfingen. To make sure that this remains so, Mercedes-Benz has reinforced Germany's status as a high-tech location with this investment in the future, while safeguarding the company's technology and innovation leadership in the premium segment."
Prof. Dr Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG for Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, adds. "With its new technology centre for vehicle safety, Mercedes-Benz is once again asserting its commitment to the core brand value of 'safety', and to Germany as a location for innovation. The close integration of research, development, planning and production at the Sindelfingen site will ensure improvements in both efficiency and the speed of innovation."
Also in these times of intelligent assistance systems with an outlook to autonomous driving, passive safety, i.e. mitigating the consequences of accidents for the vehicle occupants, is a central consideration in vehicle development. This is not only ensured by legal requirements, but also by the fact that for decades to come, vehicles from different generations will be on the roads together. "As a safety pioneer, Mercedes-Benz has made a decisive contribution to the worldwide establishment of crash tests in the automotive industry," says Thomas Merker, Director for Vehicle Body and Safety at Mercedes-Benz Cars Development. "They remain indispensable even in the age of computer simulations, and safeguard the high level of protection our vehicles provide for their occupants and other road users."

Interesting comments - I think most of the views here are clouded by anti-Mercedes sentiments...why watch then ? I faced the acid test in a Mercedes S-Class and walked away from an almost total wreck with not a scratch on me but a sprained ankle (!?). The idiot ( with another German brand car) that crashed head-on into me, did not make it; his wife, luckily, did, after three weeks in intensive care. Although my car was scrapped, it did its job. You must buy what you like and can afford, Mercedes has always made safe cars and that is ONE of the reasons we keep on buying them.

I would have liked to see markers on the front seat belts to see the operation effect of the belt pre-tensioners.

wonder a bit that the seat belts didn't prevent the Bodys for moving so far forward.
