2017 Mazda CX-5: Electronic Parking Brake Service Mode Info

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A quick video discussing Mazda CX-5 electronic parking brakes (EPB) and the procedure to put the system into service mode. It is important that you put these systems into service mode prior to doing any work on the rear brakes. If you compress the rear brake caliper pistons without doing this, you can damage the calipers and the EPB motors.

    Do you pump brake pedal several times to set pistons close pads before taking system out of service mode?

  • @AKJeeper

    @AKJeeper

    3 жыл бұрын

    No - the EPB system winds the pistons out during the calibration sequence which occurs when you take the system out of service mode. When I do brake work on cars with EPBs, I’ll take the system out of service mode before touching the brake pedal.

    Does this protocol also apply to 2019 CX5 AWD? What are the torque values for the caliper sidepins? Do you enable maintenance before or after jacking the vehicle? Thanks!

  • @AKJeeper

    @AKJeeper

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, this should be the same procedure for a 2019. Torque for the caliper bolts 17-22 ft/lbs. I usually wait until the vehicle is off the ground and the wheel is off before putting it into maintenance mode, but you can do that prior to all of that, if you'd like.

    Question, what can happen if the rear piston is turned when retracting it (while in service mode). I helped a friend do his brakes and saw the notches in the piston so I figured it needed to be spun. I use a tool similar to what is in the video, (but with the adapter with pins that fit into the slots) and I slowly compressed the piston, but I could also feel the motor turning (so I went extra slow). Everything seems to be operating normally as far as the epb and rear brakes in general, but my friend is a little paranoid after reading you're not supposed to spin the piston.
