Honda, please please listen, this bike has the dna of the perfect dualsport touring bike. It needs to lose weight, it doesnt have to be 1200. make this 1000, lose 100 lbs, add cruise, and this bike is perfect. I want the shaft drive, single side arm, wire wheels, style is perfect. it just needs to lose weight, we dont need 1200cc, please redo this bike, it needs cruise control big time

Ashwin, mine also. It really is the best all round bike I've ever owned or ridden and I will ride it until it says that's it I'm tired and need to retire. Or I get to an age where I can't handle the weight anymore due to advancing years and weakness. Superb motorcycle 👌🏻

@@Amos1965 Yes, it is superb! DCT, Power, Style, Comfort. The entire package is awesome, especially the DCT. I have bought the Harbor-Freight motorcycle dolly. It makes it so easy to maneuver the bike in the garage. Without the dolly, if I lean the bike against my body, it relieves some of the weight while maneuvering.

Great bike, great review! Really liked my 2017 DCT, but traded it in for my 2018 Goldwing DCT, non tour, which was the plan all along. Love my GW, and have the VFR 1200F model (street) version, but will be getting another X one day.

People don’t realize that it is impossible for a standard clutch bike to shift even close to the speed of the DCT. Everything you think you need like engine braking, revving to the redline, and slow speed maneuvers are all great with the DCT. I’ll challenge any similarly tuned 1200cc engine to even keep up with the V4 engine and DCT transmission. He is wrong about the drive by wire. It is a cable actuated drive by wire that accepts after market electronic cruise control. The McCruise model of cruise control works best on the VFR.

So for Asia I use my AT gor travel and Enduro. Buy one more AT in Europe sounds a bit stupid I like to try some other bike! If I buy a crossturer do I will be happy to use it compare my Atwin in Thailand? Thank you

THe VFR1200X is a great bike. Certainly a more comfortable bike for long days on pavement. But not as adaptable to dirt roads or rough terrain as an Africa Twin.

I have 2016 (May) manual version. I've put on 15,000 miles so far. There's a lot I like, but for long distance, it is NOT comfortable. The seat is uncomfortable, and the windscreen adds significant neck strain from lack of wind protection. I think the windscreen would be good for someone around 5' 8" or shorter. Although the height of the bike is a tough reach at 6 feet and 32" inseam. I've shortened bike with customized seat (still not comfortable), but 1/2 there, and lowered bike itself .75 inches. I'm 6' 0" and it's brutal on long trips (even trips over a few hundred miles). I had (then sold) the OEM side bags. They are brutal in any wind. I just get my Give top case. I lost MPG with the side cases as well. VERY expensive too.

Hey Michael, I have the 2012 (European) model, manual gearbox. The saddle on these is always hard - not sure why Honda did that. After market seat or custom re-upholstering will fix that for not that much $. For wind protection, large touring screen (Honda OEM) + an aftermarket wind deflector on it and I can go 80mph with my visor open. But yeah, first few thousand KM I had the same issue with wind protection (I'm 6'1") and seat being too hard. Now it's absolutely amazing for long tours.

So in the states there was only a 2016 and 17. I assume the bike did not go over well?? Seeing a lot here at the end of 2020 on cycle trader still new for $10,000. That's a good deal on a $16,000 bike. There must be something that people just dont like about it and prefer the Yamaha Tenere 1200 or something like that? Was always told if you have to have work done on the Honda V4, valve adjustments or worse it's very expensive????

I was about to correct that mistake myself. Yes it IS Ride By Wire. The confusion occurs because it has throttle cables between the twist-grip and the Throttle Control Position Sensor which is under the tank. Stupid idea, but only for the 2017 FireBlade did Honda get around to using a combined Twist-Grip TCPS. That makes installing an electronic Cruise Control possible, but why oh why do Honda not include that. Unbelievably short sighted IMO. It should also have radial mount calipers and for a bike that is designed for a bit of rough-roading, it should be possible to turn off the (rear) ABS. Small things, but this is a great bike that's been in production long enough for Honda to have corrected these omissions - like they did on the VFR1200F. Oh, hang on, no they didn't fix that bike either and then discontinued it for lack of interest. Doh! Make no mistake though, the VFR1200s are terrific bikes.

I don't understand it, look at the complaints on KZread about the VFR and the Africa Twin, people are amazed that a company like Honda doesn't provide basic cruise control. I'm amazed on how stupid they are.
