Nice and helpful video but the background music is too loud.

So glad you went through the sxm radio in detail. Am very glad to see the replay feature is there

I love how this new Sync 3 system works. I love the Ford pass feature.

Why do you have the background music?

You can only remote start/stop, lock/unlock etc if you've purchased a smartlink module from a dealer and set up an account. Last I looked it was a $15 per month service.

Really great overview, thank you! I'm thinking about doing an unsupported upgrade from Sync 2 to Sync 3 (some different after market options available) for my 2011 Ford Edge LTD. I know I won't get the ford pass stuff, but the other features look compelling. I might take the risk and leap. But your video helped me understand, if I did, what I might get if all works out. My only remaining question/issue is what about devices with the climate controls and how those are managed via this system (specifically seat warmers, no dedicated buttons for those on my Edge, you have to use the infotainment system). Nicely done, thanks for the time putting this together!

can it use google maps on this system?. I rely heavily on google maps on my phone because it gives me live updates on traffic conditions and taking live alternative routes. Ive found car navigation systems lagging in live traffic updates

Excellent overview. I bought a used '17 F150 and the system seems to have some history of sync'd phones (shows the phone names). Is there an easy way to delete those?

Can anyone confirm that this will play WMA losses? My mother is getting a 2018 with no CD player, so I need to rip everything for her and id like to do it losslessly if possible.

How do you increase navigation volume?

Does the navigation have any other views of the routes? Like some systems show you the different lanes on the highways and which one to take.

yes you can use the pinch to zoom for a more detailed view of your car on the highway

How do you add ford pass to a 2017 or 2016 mustang?

My edge has an issue that will stop playing music the first few minutes I’m in the car. I plugged in my phone because I like to have a full battery and I can’t play my Sirius. I will hit a station and it will play two seconds then go back to the source screen. It won’t play music so I have to keep hitting the Sirius button. I disconnected my Bluetooth from the car that helped a day then it came back. My other issue is that my voice command doesn’t always stop the music when I try to use it so it can’t hear me.

What size can are you talking into while doing this video?

Just got a new 2017 explorer with sync 3. I can connect my galaxy s7 edge just fine but when I get a call or make a call I cannot hear the person I called thru the car speakers. I've called Ford and verizon and still couldn't figure it out. My brothers phone and my husbands phone both work fine. So, maybe it's something with my phone. I don't know. Any suggestions? I've made sure that it's connected properly and that my phone bluetooth setting is set up for audio calls.

seems like something is wrong with the bluetooth connection of the phone... try connecting it a different car and if it does the same thing then something is wrong with your phone

have they fixed the problem of not being able to send pre text messages while driving . otherwise this feature is useless

Can I use voice recognition to setup a detour for the navigation or do I have to use the screen?

Caseyfamily100 if you bought the car pre owned it is most likely the previous owners phone that they did not disconnect. you can go into the Bluetooth settings of the sync 3 as shown and delete it

Is the google maps not compatible with the sync 3? incase you don't get the navigation.

Buy a gm, they have had this technology for their customers since 2010 and it's way more advanced, I love ford vehicles but they nickel and dime on these things

You can still have the SYNC 3 without the navigation, its extra for the navigation you must have a vehicle without navi

I loved watching this but I am having problems with mine resetting on its own. My time will go back an hour, all my navigation sets delete and my bluetooth phones disappears. Since purchasing this vehicle I have done a master reset and updated software using WiFi and I still have problems afterwards. Any ideas on what I should do? Would Ford dealership know how to fix? Thanks for any suggestions.

I just bought a 2016 F-150 FX4 Lariat last Friday. 2 issues with my Sync 3...#1, The navigation still thinks and reads it's in Dearborn Michigan. I am in Southern Illinois. Even the "Where am I" button will not show my current location. Tried to reset but nothing The technicians say they have checked everything but don't know how to fix it. #2, my sirius radio does not work either. Everything else with Sync 3 seems to work fine. Any thoughts?

+JeffWright sounds to me like the dealer might have left the vehicle in transit mode. It deactivates most of the electronics but regular functions work fine.

I just got off the phone with Ford Customer Relations....they say that Transit Mode deactivates automatically after 50 miles....is this true?

Jeff Wright that is a good question my mechanics deactivate the transit mode once the trucks arrive so I have never tested that theory. Let me know how you make out

if the Background is the sky blue back ground like the one in the video you have the SYNC 3 the sync 2 is the OLD My Ford touch system.

I do not like ford pass i would go to turn the car on in the morning and it would tell me it is shutting down in 9 mins when i would have to do it again to start the car it is a pain

Was this in a 2016 car or a 2017 car? I am looking at an explorer and trying to see the difference between 2016 and 2017.

I filmed this in a 2017 Ford Escape. There is no difference between the SYNC 3 in the 16 and 17 escapes, however you can only use the Ford Pass app with the 2017s. In the Ford Explorer 2017 models you can use the SYNC 3 and voice commands to control the climate settings as well.

There is a difference. 16 have sync 3. 17 have sync 3 AND Android Auto/Apple Carplay. Ford says there will be an update for 16's to add it to their sync 3. I'm looking forward to it because you wouldn't need to buy navigation, since you could you Google maps through Android Auto.

incorrect. The Sirius TravelLink uses satellite signal/input....has nothing to do with cell/data.

When I first plug my iPhone in, I do not see CarPlay on the iPhone, nor do I see the screen you showed in the video. SYNC 3 does detect the phone and it does show me only two apps; Ford Pass and Dominos. But, I try to refresh and no other apps ever show up!

ffmedic1638 let's do some trouble shooting.... first thing I would do is make sure you have the latest Sync 3 software. the older versions do not allow the apple car play. do you know how to connect to wifi and update the software ?

Version 2.0. I am connected to WIFI (actually not at this minute) and I have the AUTO-Updates set to ON. I did do a push to check for latset updates..everything OK.

I have only setup the android phones but all my customers say it is the same routine. Plug your phone in and it should appear in either the mobile apps section or second page of the settings menu

Ron Rivet you cannot save it to the sync 3. You would have to play it on your MacBook using the aux cord, Bluetooth or transfer to your phone. You can also save all your songs to a thumb drive and plug it in

The trouble with using Apple Car Play, when you plug in, it takes over the gorgeous screen. It also takes away the Nav, and replaces it with IPhone Nav. Not a good option for those that value the Sync 3 features.

I JUST BOUGHT THIS 2017 ESCAPE LAST NIGHT. I THOUGHT SYNC 3'S ALL HAD NAV :( SO NOW I SEE I DON'T. I CANNOT RETURN THE CAR SO DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS A WAY TO ADD THIS/EXCHANGE IT OUT/UPGRADE??

I have a 2017 F-150 XLT WITH A SAMSUNG 4S R Galaxy , running ANDROID 5.14 SPRING. Sync 3 or connect says: HA HA HA it will kinda work as a phone but: I need to really sort my songs& phone # to make it happy? BUT NO NAV OR INTERNET: unless I buy their system or "SERVICE" : BUT service is a word not in Ford's dictionary? 😨 What am I doing wrong or need to do?

I already have Nav in my SYNC 3 but i don't have MAP'S for middle east how can i fix this issue?

My first suggestion would be to make sure you have updated to the latest version of the SYNC 3. You can do this by connecting WIFI and updating the software in the settings

Unfortunately, you can really only listen to 6 stations while driving because the option to press the preset button to go to the next 6 stations is so small, that you have to hit it right on. Impossible when driving. You can wreck. So have your favorite 6 only while driving.

If it's like anything like GM's setups that they don't allow new messages, just read you the ones you receive and reply to those by voice.

I just cant get it... The ux is like Windows 98... It really needs to be replaced with state of the art UX.

Battery died now It won’t even let me access my sync settings

I prefer letting my phone display google maps that is going on my phone over the screen rather than the NAV.

Little slower please. The audio system is great but needs better slower tutorial. Problems with preset on HD radio. Only discovered HD radio after my Sirius expired, Adds additional stations not otherwise available. Crystal clear. Music quality far above Sirius. Was going to renew Sirius, but after discovering HD radio, think not.

2016 ford sync II can be upgrade with sync3 ?

Yes you can. KZread it. It’s a software install and you have to change out your usb hub

SYNC 3 works amazing well compared to competitors. We have a lot of how-to tutorial videos on our channel as well regarding SYNC and other issues.

@@funutation depending on what vehicle you have there should be a hard button right on your dash

Background music is annoying can not hear your valuable information

FordPass is ok. Just little bit behind. I had that in my GMC back in 2011 where i can lock/unlock/start the car, check oil, tire pressure etc right from the phone

You can change it to a black background. Change it to "night mode" in the display settings.
