    i remember when the GTR you guys tested got a 4.5+ 0-60 time and people flipped out. guys these are not prepped surfaces, these are real world tests done in the most non-optimal conditions. sure motor trend gets 2.8 for the gtr and 3.4 for the GS,, but thats after 60 launches on a sticky drag strip with a 1 foot roll out all weather corrected.

    Very impressive. I think you'd have a much faster time if you weren't testing it in cold conditions. I have the Michelin Super Sports on my car, and under 50 degrees the grip starts falling off quite a bit. Too bad it can't be tested again in warmer conditions until probably next year. Great review, as always!

    only true if the tires are cold, I warm them up and they are fine and operating at full grip.

  • @chronodriver

    @chronodriver

    7 жыл бұрын

    that doesn't matter, the tires molds around the surface to produce grip not the other way around. As long at the tires are up to temp they work. It can get so cold that you can't keep them in the working temperature range then you have an issue. The manufactures recommend above 45 for Summer tires on the road because in the real world you don't have them warmed up so the grip suffers for that first stop or swerve, they would be fine if you tried it again because they would now have some temp in them but you don't have second chances on the road (so that's why they have the 45 policy). It was right around 45 anyway that day.

  • @jeffk464
    @jeffk4647 жыл бұрын

    Yup, I've heard that from a few professional drivers now. The Porsche is just a better balanced more predictable chassis. One of them said never turn of stability control on the corvette because it would bite you. Oh well its still a cool car.

  • @chronodriver

    @chronodriver

    7 жыл бұрын

    I can elaborate a bit further here, the car obviously has monster tires and grip and vs. a Porsche (or Ferrari, McLaren etc.) Corvettes don't feel as torsionally stiff, the chassis feels like it flexes so with all the grip as you load it up you are winding up the chassis as well and that makes it suddenly unload. It doesn't transition from gripping to sliding as slowly, smoothly or predictably as so other cars, it also lacks granular feel. The Viper is very similar with the Viper having even less feel than the Vette but a stiffer *feeling* chassis. All just my opinion FWIW. They both punch above their weight for lap time (performance) per dollar but there are real reasons they cost less and feel/predictability are what they miss compared to the much more expensive European stuff.

  • @rik999

    Tires, tires,tires. It looks like it was cold at the track. The C7 comes with michelin summer tires that harden alot below 40-45 degrees F. Did Paul do successive back to back laps to get them warm? I have a 2014 (Z51) C7 that I had to change the tires to Continental all season tires to drive in cold weather without chattering and skating in corners. Would Paul break his own record if you test in warmer weather?

    The Fast Lane Car drifting is entertaining to watch. I have thousands of miles driving on the autoban at speeds in excess of 150 mph and 20 years of Police work involving high speed driving with zero accidents over 20 years. You will not find many accident free Cops with 20 years or more. Thank you for the response but this car is capable of better times. This was a great video, I gave it a thumbs up but I could not let this time go without some critique.

  • @chronodriver

    @chronodriver

    7 жыл бұрын

    Thanks David, it's hard to tell watching a video and appreciate your feedback. I also respect your training. I trained the police trainers nationally for years at the Bill Scott Racing School at Summit Point West Virginia, I may have trained your trainer. Even if what you say about my driving is true (and it's not) it's all relative right? Think about it, I drive them all the same so to say you think the outright lap time could be quicker is irrelevant, it is how they compare one to the other since we are the only people who set lap times on this particular track. I have also checked correlation between our track and others and the cars land where they should one relative to the other (I invite you to check the correlation yourself). I do slide in the first third of the turn on the hot laps...it is faster, if I slide it enough to go tho correction (past center with the wheel) I have slide too much and lost time. This is stuff I never taught to the police trainers, it has no relevance to pursuit driving but when I teach race car driving you will find it is consistent at every pro racing school. It's a different level appropriate for the track. Hope it makes a bit on sense and keep the questions coming and I will try to answer clearly. Sorry for this one being so long BTW!

They can do incredible things for people with little to no talent. American cars are like old p51 mustangs. beautiful but sometimes wierd looking, extremely simple, and you better know what your doing. Two ways of doing things but with the same results. scalpel vs an axe.

    LT1 motor.....did nobody catch this? I'm no modern C7 expert but I'm pretty sure the LT1 was the C4's better engine after the L98, the 93-97 4th gen Fbody engine, and in 1997 the LS1 put the LT1 into the crate motor only part of the parts catalog. Come on guys edit this shit out and delete my comment.

    Jeff Deal It has nothing in common with the C4's old motor. It's all new and indeed called the LT1.

    Its just a re-run with the name. Engines are not related.

    Too expensive for how unrefined it is. Having to fight the car all the time when approaching the limits is fine for a much cheaper car, but not when you're starting to get into Porsche price territory.

    Tell ya what, come drive it in Michigan, It all started here Detroit Motor City. Thanks to our past Presidents and elected officials all the jobs are gone and back to what I'm saying.. drive these on Michigan roads, you'll hit a pot hole every 50 yards because again our dumb ass elected governors cannot seem to ever fix our roads! Sure because it's industrial area and it has winter storms every year but so does Ohio, Indiana and many others.. The only damn Great thing left in Michigan is our Great Lakes, at least every walleye out there hasn't bellied over dead yet.. yet. Oh yeah, after someone dumb enough to buy a beautiful beast like these Vettes they'll need to get use to fixing the repairs, because alls these Michigander officials just patches holes instead taking notes from other States.. My rant of the day.. #NeverSurrenderYourGuns #ThankAVetAndPunchASnowFlakeToday
