2017 BMW 535i Gran Turismo Unboxing - Is This The Smarter Choice Over An X5?

For our latest unboxing review we bring you the 2017 BMW 535i xDrive Gran Turismo. What's "xDrive"? That's BMW-speak for all-wheel drive. Built on the same platform as the outgoing 5 Series sedan, the 535 GT is an enlarged, wagon-like version of the sedan that had a rough and wild night with the 5 Series wagon, which is still sold overseas. Standard power comes from BMW's excellent turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. In this case, power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. But why should anyone consider the 5 GT over, say, an X3, X5, or any other premium crossover/SUV? Because unlike the X5, the 5 GT actually drives like a proper BMW, the "Ultimate Driving Machine." Yes, it's heavier than the regular 5 sedan, but the 5 GT still inherits its wonderful chassis and suspension.
Step inside and you'll find a very familiar interior, but with an awful lot more space. With the rear seats folded flat and which can move forward by four inches, owners will enjoy a grand total of 59.5 cubic feet of cargo room. Our tester also came equipped with the optional Driver Assistance Package, M Sport Package, and Premium Package, thus proving a true BMW experience. Our biggest complaint (and like yours, too)? That exterior design. Yeah, it's pretty damn ugly. Enjoy the review!

I love the back, looks futuristic
Beautiful car. The slopping roof looks fantastic. I especially like the profile and back-end designs.
Also it’s built on the 7 series platform... hence the extra interior room.
I love how it looks as well!! Not sure why the guy keeps saying it’s ugly??
I think the exterior design is nice, looks sleek and I think the design will make it look modern for a long time.

Purchased this vehicle new about six weeks ago, just got around to putting two hundred miles on it. Came out of an X5 and definitely don’t regret the purchase. Yes it’s a strange looking vehicle but the functionality surpasses the looks.

Yeah you have to live with one to understand design choices BMW has made. Works well for a large family. I have an 30d.

I really think of this car as a bargain 7series rather than an expensive 5series and the style is something that stars growing in you.

Sebastian Guasque I used to pull up next these on the highway while in my X5 and think “God that car is ugly”, after driving one, experiencing the interior leg room and comforts I just bought one. Now I’m the guy in the ugly car but it’s so versatile I think I made the right decision.
Nah I wouldn't call it ugly at all..more so a unique design with smashing interior 👌
I wd traded a 523i for the BMW 535 anytime. The GT has so much class and finesse.

I have a 530d GT what i notice about models like the GT and the X4,X6 people love the looks or hate the looks I love it :)
I like the look of this car. It's like a high end Honda CrossTour at twice the cost. I'm looking at used models now but the cost of maintenance is high as this car ages. I'd love to own one.

GT is a big boy car, it looks sexy... I had one... I will say from the front it didn’t look that good but the rest of it definitely

My favorite car I have ever owned. 550i XDrive is the best in luxury and power. 400 HP w 450 torque. 💯
It’s based on the seven series platform.
This is not true it's much better in real life
This car is based on a 7 series F01. A G11 is already out which means the new model of a gran turismo is coming soon.

It’s 2016 I guess looking at the rear light. The 2010-2013 has flat rear light.
The design concept is typically designated as a, 'Fast-back'. Also, you should be aware of the Audi A7. It is a direct competitor to the BMW Gran Turismo. I honestly love fast-back design, although I think A7 is a bit more refined. bmw has an issue with allowing passengers to recline the rear seats as much as they want . 🤦🏾♂️ That is my only problem
