I Had all my drive fluids changed during my first oil change, the oil change was free because I bought the car at that dealership, but the trans and rear diff was only like 200 bucks to do em, including labor and fluid. since then I have done all the fluid changes myself, today is 12/12/2021 and my 2018 1.5 AWD has 92,011 on it and I finally did the filter behind the heater element and I was honestly expecting it to be destroyed, but it wasn't, it was definitely VERY VERY VERY dirty, but I really think doing my break in fluid changes helped out a ton. The writer and the tech that was there when I picked the car up for my first one said that if more people did that break in fluid change at about 5,000 and then keep up on your fluid changes it would solve a ton of un needed work. 100 bucks in fluid and washers vs $4000+ for a trans replacement....its a no brainer.

I then drained out that fluid, filled with the correct fluid (HCF-2). I let it sit a few minutes, did NOT start the vehicle. Drained it again, then refilled with the correct fluid (HCF-2). Then started the vehicle. All this took place at 26,500 miles. Is there anything else you recommend I do? I am thinking of changing it again at 30,000 miles. No that should be fine what you did. If you just accidentally filled and didnt start you can simply drain and refill with correct fluid as you did. If you had started and drove I'd say to drain, refill with correct fluid, drive a bit, then drain again and refill 👍

Its a good video. There is a transmission filter under the battery tray. It is rarely addressed. Very little information about it. That transmission had a lot of metal. I think I would change it. Maybe get more life out of this transmission. Personally i love the fact Honda put that overflow hole there. Cannot overfill, and you know it has correct amount of fluid. Simple and easy for diy. Also wish more bolt heads were like the drain plug. You dont have to find the correct socket and you can apply a lot of force without slipping.

Great tuturial video! The only thing that's missing is letting the viewers know that after doing a drain and fill you should plan on doing another one in another few weeks only because there's no way to get all the fluid out in one drain. I would say come back a week or two after the initial drain and drain and fill one more time before you decide to not worry about it for another 40k miles.

I have almost a million miles on Honda auto transmissions in the past 20 years. I just did a drain and fill every 30K to 50K miles. No need for back to back drain and fills, in my experience. Replacing 3 to 4 quarts every 30K to 50K miles is sufficient maintenance to keep the transmission fluid in good condition. I never had a transmission failure and some of my transmissions had 350K miles when I traded them in.

Hey, Johnny DIY. Thanks for your videos. I change my CR-V oil by jacking up only the front left and installing a jack stand. This would also give me access to changing the transmission fluid. QUESTION: What do you think about changing my transmission fluid by 1) jacking up the front left, 2) draining the transmission fluid and reinstalling the drain bolt, 3) refilling the transmission fluid, 4) removing the transmission level check bolt, 5) lowering the front left so the car is level allowing any excess fluid to drain out, 6) again raising the front left and reinstalling the level check bolt. This seems easier than jacking up all four wheels trying to level out the car. Thanks!!!

  • @JonnyDIY
