Called the dealer in California today and they are charging $400+tax to install 4 new NGK plugs into my 2018 CRV. Ordered them directly from NGK for $14 each and will install using your video. Saved me $350 dollars. THANK YOU THANK YOU!

@@603Mechanicvids Question...how do you know that spark plugs need to be replaced? I'm not getting a warning on the dashboard but when I start the car up, I'm feeling a slight engine vibration that I thought is an indication that the spark plugs need to be replaced. Thoughts?
@603Mechanicvids

in most cases your engine will start to run rough at idle, engine struggles to start, misfires, bad fuel economy as well. you will get a code if your getting misfires. good make spark plugs usually last anywhere from 40 - 60k, they do make ones that last to 100k as well. sounds like you may need to change yours
Thank you for the video, it’s very helpful. This job is costing $500 in dealer :)
Great how to video on changing the plugs. Going out and doing mine in confidence.
I usually put anti-seize on the threads of the plugs & dielectric grease on the tops.
@grizzlybear2
Жыл бұрын
Depends on the plug. Ngk comes coated with a special alloy that doesn't need antiseize. I think the instructions explicitly say to not add it either. I agree with adding die electric grease to the coil pack tho

cheap hack for the magnetic socket I discovered is a Stanley screwdriver with removable magnetic attachments...fit the plug cap perfectly and was easy extraction.
Great job straight forward w/o needing to do each plug
Great video. I have been searching for a video like this for my wife 18 crv.
Thank you! very good video nothing left out for questions. 🎉🎉🎉
Great video. I am told the CRV can have a situation where the valves make noise. Dealers want to adjust the valves when they change the sparks. My BS alarm goes off and i say no

Valve adjustment is absolutely a thing on all Hondas and it is literally in your owners manual that you should check the valves at 100k. Follow your manual.
Good old new England weather nice video I only have 50,000 on my CRV not time yet.
Where did you find 14 foot pound spec? I looked through the owner manual and didn't even see an instruction for changing plugs, just how to identify maintenance minders haha.
Feeler Gauges for plugs, NOT the plug ramp tool. Those cheaper ramp made gauge tools are NOT very accurate.
I have a 2017 crv touring 50,000km with error code showing 1 cylinder miss fire. One mechanic says it’s the spark plugs and coil and another mechanic says it’s the fuel injectors. What is your opinion
@603Mechanicvids

I would have to say the spark plug and ignition coil
How often are you supposed to change the coils. I bought some aftermarket ones and I'm getting misfires I'm about to put the old Honda ones back on
Nice vid bro.. What is the interval for replacing spark plugs?
Great video! How did the 1.5T engines perform? I'm in two minds whether to buy the older model 2.0 ivtech or the new 1.5t?
@603Mechanicvids

thanks, the 1.5t isn't to bad it runs well and so far very reliable with a decent amount of power, but I will always believe that the older Honda engines were better but thats just my opinion, Honda definitely makes great vehicles

Put mine through a lot- high rpm’s for a long time, mud, below 0 degrees Fahrenheit for weeks, and then I crossed the country (the shorter way) and it never gave me any issues at all. Just as tough as the old ones if not tougher.
Nicely done. I would like to know how often they need replacing. Or did you notice a performance lags? I had multiple 4 Cylinder Honda engine on different vehicle. One key note is that if one spark plug or cylinder is having an issue, such dirty gas building up deposits on spark plugs. You will notice a significant power lag or jurking from the engine at times of increased power. It would be very helpful to know why you are replacing the spark plugs.

Thanks for the comment, my plugs were fine I just wanted to post up a how to video for others, I take alot of things apart and put them back together just for videos sounds crazy ik 😄. I've always liked the idea of changing plugs every 30k - 50k as they are very important, misfires or loss of power like u mentioned would also be a sign to replace them as well

The CRV has a maintenance reminder on the computer. Spark plugs are generally every 100,000 miles on this car. The maintenance reminder recommends a valve adjustment at the same time however.
How do I know if coil pack needs replaced? All of my system lights came on so I took it to Auto Zone and their fix finder is saying it’s an ignition coil?
@603Mechanicvids

typically a misfire is a good sign of a bad plug or ignition coil. if autozones scanner says its a ignition coils then you need to replace it. did they tell u which cylinder? I recommend just replacing all of them at once if you have the money to
Excellent demo Thank you😊😊😊
The dealer wants $800 to change the spark plugs on my 2019 Honda CRV 1.5 Turbo engine. They say it includes a valve adjustment and new valve cover gasket. Is a valve adjustment really needed when the spark plugs are changed
@areallytallguy
Ай бұрын
It’s literally in your owners manual to do valve adjustments at 100k miles.
Oil change place in Mexico wants $400 for this job. So I asked them.... its $60 for coil packs and plugs, 30 mins work at $80 an hour, what is the other $300 for? He said in a whisper "idiot tax". Never pay premium for a teenager when you can do a better job for 1/4 the price.
Thank you. A really helpful video.

I like the Autolite XP Iridium plugs. I use them in all my vehicles. Less costly than the NGKs and every bit as good. 😎😎
Shouldve washed that disgusting engine bay prior to service.
Your 2017 looks like a 2002 with how it looks under the hood. Sheesh.
@603 Mechanic vids - Thanks for the video, but you left out a tid-bit of useful into. The NGK Iridium plugs come from the factory pre-gapped at .030 (+\-), but the gap for that Honda CRV engine is .043. Now, two (very important!) things to be aware of, 1. when gapping Iridium plugs, the tiny electrode is VERY fragile and brittle, like glass! Put no pressure on the iridium electrode or you will toast a $18 plug. 2. DO NOT BUY THESE PLUGS ON AMAZON!!! You have about a 90% chance of getting counterfeit iridium plugs! No kidding! It's pathetic but true, per NGK America. Google (or youtube) counterfeit iridium spark plugs. Easy to tell the counterfeit from the real if you know what to look for, but impossible if you don't.
