    FYI - Replace the oil drain plug gasket/Crush ring when putting the oil drain plug back on.

    Torque spec for the oil filter cap is 18 ft. lbs.

    Great presentation. So much better to do your own oil changes. Like you said, you know it's done right with all new oil and filter. It is much cheaper also.

    20 ft lbs (27 Nm) for the drain plug and 18 ft lbs (25 Nm) for the oil filter cap per factory service manual.

    Great video. What a pleasure to not have to get an oil filter wrench out and dealing with an overtightened filter. Jeep got this one right. One added tip, if you have the Summit model, be sure to turn off the air suspension system before jacking the car up.

    Rather than jacking the car up, can’t you use the air suspension to raise the car to the “off road 2” setting , and slide under the car to drain the oil that way?

    @@enricom664 I was thinking the same thing until I figured out you probably have to shut the engine off at which time, my air suspension lowers down to exit the car.

    @@melodymaker396 have you checked your settings? Under the “suspension” option, you have the option to check/uncheck “auto entry/exit suspension”. My car remains in the “off road 2” height when the engine is off.

    Great video. Clear and concise and fun to watch. BTW I have a '21 Grand Cherokee 4x2 that I basically use for driving around town in Los Angeles. No big hills, heavy loads, or towing anything. How often should I replace the oil? There's so much conflicting info out there so figured I'd ask the pro. Thank you!

    Quick question did you need to put a crush washer on that bolt going into the oil pan

    Make sure that your engine is cool? Always have a warm engine when changing oil. That's insane to change while cool. If too hot, pop the hood, run a fan for 20 minutes, then start the oil change. Also, pop the oil filler cap before draining to allow oil to flow faster.

    Thanks for doing this video. Do those drain bolts have a crush washer or gasket on them? I have been seeing mixed things online about it. I just want to make sure I have one if needed. Thanks

    Yes, those drain bolts have a crush ring, Yes definitely pick one up when you are doing your oil change. Sorry that i didnt explain tht in the video.

    What happens if I don’t replace the O Ring on the filter ? For some reason mine didn’t come with one with the new filter ? Should I just do it on my next oil change?

    Whats up man, yeah someone probably took it out. But i mean i do recommend putting a new o ring, you dont want any leaks. If you do frequent oil changes, like every 3k miles. You should be fine. But id definitely get that o ring. If you gunna rock with the same one, just inspect it. Make sure theres no cracks, stress wear, tht its not firm, blistering etc.

    If you have the V6 its 5.9 quarts to be exact. I googled, says 5.9 quarts is 5.6 liters.

    Front tabs where? The plastic? No tht is not suppose to break, you just suppose to lift up from the front so it unclips

    99 out of a 100 Jeep Grand Cherokees that I looked at when going to purchase one had oil leaking everywhere all over the motor from people overtightening the oil filter housing and cracking it!

    I would stay away from jeep, this was my wifes car, i changed the waterpump 4x, radiator leaked, and ac system was shot. It was always something. I got rid of it eventually. Just my personal opinion

    Do however order you want. If you want to drain first then change, thts up to you. Tht filter is up top, all the oil is in the pan. Its not circulating while the car is off. Thts just how we did it.

    My Jeep dealership says every 8k Miles but to me that crazy, I tend to change my oil every 3-4k Miles.

    The computer knows the difference between highway miles, low rpm, and around town driving so it varies. Watch you dashboard for % left. It dings at 20% and then you should change within 500.

    Only pain, is having to get rid of used oil. But saving $45 it’s with stopping back by auto zone! 😂

    Most landfills will take it and also part stores will take like 2 to 5 gallons at a time 👍

    bro I was getting charge 130 bucks to change my oil, I normally do it to my vehicles, however to keep your warranty go to certified shops. But then I realized fuk it!

    Yeah man, my jeep was charging 69 bucks before covid. Then i went last yr and she told me 139.99, i said for an oil change? When they gave me the reciept, the price of the oil and filter were the same but charging 110 in labor now. I said forgot tht, im doing it myself.

    I went to the dealer for the first 35K miles then started doing it myself and keep the receipts (noting mileage) for every change in case of a warranty issue. Not sure that documentation will hold up if challenged...

    Penzoil is the recommended oil for Jeep Cherokee, is the oil they mentioned to use on the Owner’s manual. Some people like you just don’t have a clue.
