    I admire anyone who can leave their bike bone stock for 7500 miles. My WRR has less than 300 miles on it and I already have handguards, Pro tapers and a Fender Eliminator. Can't wait to do the gearing and seat.

    Thanks for the review. I'm sorry to hear about the problems you had with the bike. It seems pretty unusual to have issues like that from Yamaha. I'm glad you didn't take the CycleCruza route and mod the hell out of it for the sake of itself. The WR is set up to run really well right from stock. Good mileage total. I only got 2,000 on mine in 5 months.

    I got one. It's amazing I love it. The exhaust runs a little hot on my leg. This is my first motor bike. Totally not entry level, extremely technical bike. I am fairly used to it in normal conditions however I have dropped it twice in mud off road lol. I think it's a huge heavy machine since I'm used to a 20lb titanium bmx bike or a 40lb mountain bike. Compared to other motor bikes this thing is tiny, nimble, light. It's not the most powerful bike I've read about however the power to weight ratio is off the charts. It feels like a sail at high speed. I should be more comfortable off road in the drier summer months.

    Pretty cool!! I have a 2012 wr250r with 30,300 miles on it and still going. Now it might blow up tomorrow. But it's my favorite and most dependable bike I have out of my fleet.. its been across old Mexico, and new Mexico, and part of the TAT trail. The only thing is it's under powered when my 200lbs of fat ask, and loaded with my mosko reckless 80 bags it struggles in the head wind. But I still love it though..

    And this is why I have a brand new 2017 wr250r! LOL I been wanting this bike for a few months decided to just buy it. No regrets. Well only regret I have is I did not gopro my first few miles on it because I was WAY to excited to ride the damn thing! Hope I have many adventures! Thanks for the vid!

    I agree, I did mine in November, the recall was triggered due to an incorrect assembly process, which was causing the clutch push lever seal to crack.

    I have an 08 wr250r & i find it to be under powered for the freeway, especially here in southern California. But when it comes to riding dirt its awesome. I have too much fun with it in the dirt. Whatever you decide to do though have fun. Also bike is good for riding around town running errands or for camping. Don't recommend riding on freeways though.

    Good Job I was interested in the fact who’ve covered 7,500 miles be even more interesting to understand the total distance the machine can cover before a full overhaul assuming good routine maintenance is undertaken at the correct internals?

    Colm Haughey that’s a very interesting question indeed. I am sitting between 15k and 16k. I have not noticed a change in power from the beginning. There are parts that have worn though. I’ve gone through 3 chains, 4 sets of tires, the chain protector on the swing arm, my exhaust broke at the weld to the header. Battery, Now, I feel my clutch may be a job soon. I still have no major complaints for the bike as a whole! I do oil changes ever 2500 miles or so and I only use full synthetic.

    Just picked mine up used from a dealer a couple weeks ago for $5,000 out the door (with title and tags)! It’s a 2017 with 3300 miles on it. Already has a skid plate, but I definitely want to put hand guards on it too. Do you feel like the stock gearing limits you at all? I keep hearing it’s not good for trail riding and that most people put a 47+ tooth sprocket on the back.

  • @dieterlesreptiles

    @dieterlesreptiles

    Matt Pierce thanks for the comment! I have stock gearing and I’m around 19000 miles. I have noticed that popping the front end up over obstacles has been a little more difficult than with dirtbikes with 47 or 49 rear sprockets. However, I’ve spent a lot more time on road than off and it’s worth the stock gearing for me. I’ve heard 14/47 is optimal from other Wr250r owners though. Maybe my next gearing will be that. Good luck!

    do you think it is a bike that is easy to grow out of? I am looking into getting either a wr250r or wr450f (yep 2 completely different bikes), but since I am coming from a litre bike I am worried that I will quickly outgrow the wr250r. I will use it for daily commuting (small island, very low miles commute), some mild, slow offroad adventure and maybe an adventure trip to my neighbouring island, Sicily

    Mark Dark I have 18000 miles on the bike to date (06/19) I don’t feel like I need a bigger bike at all. I’ll be honest though, if I could have had a wr450f street legal, or if they made a wr450r, I’d be all over getting that extra power. I think if you were to get on them side by side, you would appreciate the extra power in the 450f.

    @@dieterlesreptiles Yeah that is my concern, bot bikes will have to be imported because there aren't any for sale locally, so I cannot try either of them. And I don't want to go through all the hassle of importing a bike and then finding out that it is not the one I want. Though saying that it might be a good move starting with the wr250r because I do not need to do anything to it to make it street legal. And if I don't like it I am pretty sure it will sell quickly since there are not many around.

    If your worried about growing out of the bike they sell a 310 upgrade kit for the wr250r. Although like bone java, if they made a wr450r then i would have bought that one instead. I think a 450 would be better for freeway riding. I originally bought the bike for daily commuting but found the bike to be under powered for high speed riding on the freeway. Its great in the dirt though.
