I really don't see why they couldn't put figure roller skating in the summer Olympics and ice figure skating in the winter Olympics. I mean, I do, because money is always involved and that's one of the biggest reasons it hasn't made it, but still.. I would love to see this made into an Olympic sport.

@@RandomnessGirl309 It's also called figure roller skating, the two terms are interchangeable. And many of these competitors actually continue to do figures as part of competitions, unlike current figure ice skating that has lost its figure roots.

Based on Olympic Committee guidelines, Artistic Roller Skating will never be in the Olympics because the USARS changes it's rules, classes, scoring.... Everything about the sport so frequently. Every time USARS does an overhaul of the sport, they decrease the sport's credibility in the eyes of the Olympic Committee. Also, to become a n Olympic sport, the sport must be competitive in a specific number of countries (I don't remember exactly how many), and Artistic skating doesn't meet that requirement.

If it were, I would actually follow the Summer Olympics since the only sports I like to watch involve music and dancing. And I mean for goodness sake, shooting is an Olympic "sport."

This proves why artistic roller skating should be an Olympic Summer Sport... I remember when hockey was a demonstration sport in Barcelona. My Dad was the FIRS President and pushed to make our Sport an Olympic Summer Sport... RIP James Pollard 🙏

Remember people: Ice skating isn't available to everyone! Some countries only have seasonal ice rinks or only ONE rink that's too far away. Roller skating/blading is an alternative. It's just warmer😁

Yeah in my country there no ice rinks so we had no true chance of becoming great stars in figure skating because only ice skating matters for some reason.

Loneliest Art In my city, you can go to practice to parks that are in almost every neighborhood. The are parks with skating rinks with ramps and other cool stuff, but you can also practice on the empty basketball courts that are in normal parks if you get there before or after the kids get out of school (around 2-4 PM). There is only one ice rink and the classes are expensive, so roller skating is a far more popular and accessible choice.

Boo to the Olympic committee for keeping artistic roller skating out of the Olympics! They rather see folks throwing a steel ball and darts than to watch amazing choreography on quads, which is extremely difficult!! Nothing wrong with long distance pitching but I trust you get my point! If money making is their issue, then they don’t know how much they’re really missing out on...would you rather pay to see artistic roller skating or a 10 seconds ball throw??

Candy Smith I know, right!!?? Thanks for your comment! I heard that the Olympic committee needs a certain number of countries that have pro artistic roller skating. I can’t remember what that number is...just hope more countries would promote, fund, and encourage young people to get serious about this sport...Brazil is one country where figure roller skating is rapidly growing...too many people think of figure roller skating as “the step before figure ice skating”…while that’s true for some pro figure ice skaters, I completely disagree and find it very unfair to those who wish to stick with figure roller skating! It’s an awesome and extremely difficult sport that (in my opinion) deserves to be in the Olympics! Thanks again!

Wow, this is impressive in the extreme. These elements are challenging enough to do on ice blades. But I'm thinking the added challenge of friction and less precision on quad roller skates makes this performance an almost inhuman feat!! Also he's doing spins on his heel!!!! What! That is so crazy impressive.

Yury while you make a good point, you must consider that the physical dynamics between ice skating and roller skating are quite different. Two blades sliding through ice versus 8 wheels rolling against the ground make up for very different physics...not to count quads weigh quite a bit more than ice skates, which makes figure roller skating all the more fantastic, considering the level of effort involved. But again, it’s difficult to make comparisons, since physical dynamics between the two sports are quite different...

Lucia Gunn I have my own opinions. I think figure skating looks more appropriate on ice rather than done on the..floor. also I think quads or the roller blades don't look as pleasing as a straight and shiny metal on skates. Figure skating on ice have more spins, more jumps and more speed. That's what makes it stand out from this. Its just a more graceful sight for me..

Outstanding! How wonderful to see Artistic Roller Skating being carried forward by the next generation. Luca Lucaroni gave the best performance yet seen and ranks up with the best this sport has to offer.

This guy is blowing my mind! He skates on these roller skates like they are ice skates. I love roller skating and have done both. There is no comparison. The tricks he is doing on roller skates so effortlessly are no joke. Who is this guy? He might just bring back the popularity of roller skating. I'm down.

As a former artistic roller skater, let me tell you it is waaaay harder to do a double or even triple (lutz, flip, you name it) since the skates are so heavy compared to ice skates.

Not only that but also the impact and the heavy friction with the floor. It´s way harder to do those spins with roller blades (what makes the sport less dynamic than ice skating but still great to watch)

Another former roller skater checking in that yes, the freestyle moves are more difficult on wheels, not to mention accounting for differing floor surfaces; sometimes slick, sometimes sticky. The roller DANCE skating however, is smoother than ice skating, you can vary edges more on wheels than on blades. Roller skating almost made it into the summer Olympics in the late 70's/early 80's. What a shame it didn't. Roller skating is less expensive, and at one time, there were MANY more roller skaters than ice....... ,

Wow, this guy is really amazing. At first I discounted artistic roller skating and thought, "If you are going to work that hard, why not do ice skating?" However, although I still prefer ice skating overall, I see the value in this sport and can appreciate the effort these athletes have to put in to make their programs happen. Thanks for introducing me to a side of skating I haven't seen before!

What a stunning skate by Luca! Gorgeous programme. Choreo, music etc was spot-on, and beautifully skated, and all the jumps were just fantastic! Definitely deserved that score imho. I'm a pro figure skater, not a roller skater, and I take my hat off to him. I know how much harder it is to skate on quads, so what he did jumps-wise is incredible! 👏🏻😍💖

I broke my ankles just by watching this lol it looks a lot more dangerous than Ice figure skating but more impressive!

This isn't for any specific person but for freestyle rollers in generalI. Myself am a retired figure skater however on ice not rollers. I can't understand how you can pull off these triple jumps when you move into them at such a slow-speed. We ( myself included) flew into our triple jumps. Regardless, I still enjoy watching your sport! I would just like to see you guys (and gals) move a bit faster.

People keep saying roller skating is not an accessible mainstream sport but look at the winter Olympics for example, how many ppl from hot countries participate in those sports? The numbers are so low because ice sports and cold-weather sports are not the most accessible in those countries. There are very few athletes from tropical nations in the Winter Olympics. Rollerskating however can be done almost anywhere. Tell me why iceskating is seen as more accessible than this?

What is the song naaaaame?!

I'd love to see Roller Skating added to the Olympic Summer Program. But does the ISU control this discipline? That's the only way I see for roller-skating to get into the SUmmer Olympic programme right now. The problem is, it will require a whole NEW arena which 5 other Summer sports (basketball, indoor volleyball, handball, gymnastics, cycling) already require -- not unless it can share a full arena with one of those. Plus, the other sports will have to give up? maybe 220 spots for places in the Olympic Village. The Summer Games accommodations at the Village(s) are capped at 10,500 athletes.

C'mon... Cohen barely made combinations with triples. He was good but today, Italian and Spanish skaters pushed the sport so much that Americans are barely noticed in international competitions

I come from a family of national competitor roller artistic skaters. My father did these competitions in pairs in the 60's. It amazes me how they do these jumps and tricks on heavy roller skates. He's better than Adam Rippon on ice.

vistaprime it is very very difficult to do quad jump in Roller skates.

As an ex-competitive roller skater, the quality of this sport appears to have deteriorated extremely.
