2016 Vauxhall Astra (Opel Astra) 1.6 CDTI Review - Inside Lane

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The all-new Vauxhall Astra 1.6 CDTI takes the fight to key rivals such as the Ford Focus. With an increase in quality, technology, and driving dynamics, this generation promises much. Powered by a 134BHP Whisper CDTI diesel engine, the 2015 Vauxhall Astra is very quiet indeed. Over 72MPG is claimed.
Does the 2016 Vauxhall Astra have what it takes?

About to start my lessons, so doing a wee car hunt in the meantime. I don’t understand anyone turning their nose up at this car. It looks the part and seems to give a lot for what it’s worth. I’m looking at a 2016 Astra and it looks like an incredible deal for what I’m getting. Vauxhall’s came a long way!

Hired a sri diesel 2016, the chasis and grip is amazing, and the torque will make you think your driving something alot more powerful, really enjoyed it....only thing i will disagree is that back window and visibility are not great...and the stop start is anoying.....fuel consumption if you drive normal is good, but it will eat diesel rapidly when pushed.

The glove box is too small and there is little other storage on offer elsewhere. To get a bigger boot they’ve taken out any storage dividers so there’s no where to keep the Winter essentials of anti freeze/scraper/bottle of scotch without them forever rolling around. Doesn’t handle as well as the old model. Great engine though that does indeed work well on the motorway. I wouldn’t say it’s a whisper though. More a grumble.

Not aged well, these diesel engines are now self destructing . with chain guides breaking up, snapping oil pump chains if you're lucky ! if you are not think new engine as everything collides with each other as the main timing chain breaks loose . some failing at as little as 50,000 miles . Main dealers quote arm and a leg for new engine....

BE CAREFUL DONT BUY THE ASTRA 2016 onwards. Poor engine design which causing them to have weak pistons that can go at any point. Costing thousands to replace. Not sure if they’ve fixed this but my 66 plate 1.4 turbo elite has this issue now. They should have recalled all cars and replaced these with the stronger pistons they now have. Mines been fully serviced every 6 months and done less than 28k miles. I bought it used 9 months ago and because it’s 4 years old it’s out of manufacturers warranty. I’m stuck on what to do to be honest. Just thought I’d warn you all so you don’t get fucked over like me. Still waiting for Vauxhall to come back to me but not holding out any hope they will take responsibility.

I guarantee that the unfortunate owners of these cars will be spending lots of time using the 'OnStar' service trying to establish why their shiny new pile of junk isn't working.

+Inside Lane Just the one, with that very engine. never returned anything better than mid 40mpg, even on extended runs and saw more time at the dealership than on my drive!

+Gentle Brother I believe that this is a new unit for this year. Whilst it is terrible that you have had trouble with a new car, this new generation of Vauxhalls represent a real step-up in quality. It would a bit unfair to generalise every Vauxhall on the basis of one experience.

+Inside Lane You're quite right. Best of luck to Vauxhall with this new model and to those who elect to drive one. Great review, as always.
