2016 Lincoln MKX review from Family Wheels

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Lincoln has redesigned its mid-sized crossover for the first time since its inception back in 2007 and the company has packed some impressive features in the new version. But can this luxury domestic take on its European competitors? We took the MKX on a 2,000 km family road trip to find out.

In 2008 i picked up a 2008 Ford Edge SEL, was a good vehicle and i kept it until 2013 and gave it to my son who still has it. in 2013 i picked up a 2013 Ford Edge Sport, was a fantastic vehicle. Recently i just picked up a 2018 Lincoln MKX Reserve, its a beautiful vehicle and very refined. I looked at a few vehicles before i got this one, the Lexus, the Cadillac, BMW, Volvo and Acura. I ended up buying the Lincoln MKX and love it.

I agree with your note about the price, and that you can get a Q7 for close to the same price. But I think it should also be noted that If you want feature parity between the two vehicles, the Q7's price tag will probably end up being closer to $80k - $85k USD.

Agreed, Jeremy. You can see my review on the Q7 as well and the price does climb faaaast when you start adding extras. Thanks for watching.

We are in the market now for a family vehicle, looking at everything from sedans to compact CUVs to full-size SUVs (Ford Expedition). The Edge is definitely an alternative to the MKX, although I think the MKX is one of the best looking vehicles in its class. The centre stack is a bit "meh" for my tastes though. As mentioned in the review you can save a lot of money by getting a comparably equipped Edge, if you can stomach the somewhat cartoonish styling. A loaded Edge Sport has an MSRP in the mid-$40k range (USD) (all Edge Sports are AWD). Great review though, nice to see you don't fall into the same trap as so many other reviewers who want to spend 10 minutes playing with the infotainment screen.

Will do! Leaning towards the Expedition or Navigator...I realize it's a dated design, but I like it just the same. We'll see though...I definitely like the look of the MKX.

Great review. On your driving segments there seem to be a lot of road noise inside the cabin. How quiet is this car compared to the competition?

The Edge is a good comparison as they share chassis, but the Edge does feel like it is built to a cost (even in the Sport trim), whereas the MKX is noticeably nicer. Honestly for the MKX pricing, I personally take a real hard look over the other end of the showroom at the Explorer Platinum which not only rings in ~$10k cheaper all things done but comes standard with high quality leather, similar Sync 3 infotainment, and extra automatic folding 3rd row seats, similar interior layout & materials (the Platinum gets a padded dash & leather door inserts) but also you get a 365hp 3.5L Ecoboost engine standard. While Lincoln has done a good job at differentiating the Continental & MKZ from their Ford counterparts, Lincoln's SUV don't honestly feel all that different from gussied up Ford SUV they share platforms with.

65K is just too expensive for something thats based off of a Ford Edge. Personally, if I was spending 65k for a 2 row SUV, I would probably look at a Porsche Macan, or save some money and buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. But I love your channel and keep up the great work!

+Greg Yarbro Thanks, Greg. I thought this vehicle had some great things to offer but many of those features you can find in an Edge for much less.

The adaptive cruise control; can this feature be deactivated leaving just normal cruise control?

@@FamilyWheels Our 2017 Optima has adaptive cruise and works beautifully...Tells you when it's found the vehicle its following and eases off the throttle and show it in the IP. Ours won't let you turn it off but works so well we don't need it. The auto high beams are great as I've never been flashed!!

How did you feel about the fuel economy for this long trip?

  • @FamilyWheels

    @FamilyWheels

It was decent fuel efficiency, Myles. But nothing earth shattering. The ecoboost engine tends to spool its turbo quite a bit in real world driving situations so I didn't find it as efficient as some of the posted numbers that are out there.

The price is a non-argument. An fully loaded VW Passat is also expensiever then a base MB E-class.

I agree that the old mkx looked really bad and bulbous. I like the way Lincoln is going. But they need to improve the interiors. And put a new transmission to help mpg, still love lincoln would take this over the XT5.

Yes, the old MKX looked cartoonish. It was very odd. Thanks for watching!
