2016 Harley Davidson Road King - Test Ride Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

POV Test ride and review of the 2016 Harley Davidson Road King touring motorcycle. I ride the bike through the city and on the highway to see how it performs. I give my impressions in real time. 100% honest and unbiased reviews.
The Harley Davidson Road King features a 103 cu in V-Twin engine making around 104 ft-lb of torque. The bike weighs just over 800lbs wet which puts it on the heavier side but it still manages to handle well. Prices start at $18,750 in the USA.

One of the main reasons you are experiencing the shaking at standstill is that you are grabbing front brake which causes the entire front end to shake. If you keep it in gear and let off the brake you'll feel much less of that because the front suspension is now free to absorb the engine vibrations without transferring it to your hands. I have an 07 Road King and LOVE this model.

Damn, I never thought about that. But on an incline stop, I like having both feet on the ground as this is a heavy beast! So, there really is no choice except to clamp on the front brake to hold the bike still.

The RK has changed through the years, but my 04 still puts a smile on my face each time I get on it. You are right about the windshield. I can never get situated right to look over it, so I have to look through it, which I don't like to do. I am going to get a Clearview shield a tad shorter with the lip at top. That should kick the air up and over.

I was lucky to get a 2016 RK with only 759 miles on it. Even though it’s a103 HO, I still wasn’t overly impressed. I went the Stage Two route. TTS Master Tune,Woods 222 Cams,D&D Fat Cat exhaust and a hi flow air cleaner. What a world of difference ! I absolutely dig the Road King more than ever.

Heal toe shifter is great, use the front (toe) to drop in first, then use your heal on the back lever to shift up through the gears by simply using the heal to press down on the lever. When gearing down just use the toe (front) shifter as a normal bike.

For a big touring bike, the RK has a very comfortable low center of gravity. I ride mine every day and the proper RPM can be felt by rolling off the throttle, a small rock forward is the right cruise rpm. In town I like a little higher RPM so the engine slows momentum quickly when a cage does something dumb. Great brakes and the stage II gives great acceleration without downshifting for most cruising needs.

I have a 2016 RK I do not notice any vibration weird. Throttle is touchy I agree with that. I love the gear indicator. 2016 RK is a touring bike so it should ride smooth and it does. I took the back shifter off. It handles like a dream. It is heavy no doubt. You definitely have to man handle (sexist remark?) it. When you shift you will hear it. KLUNK. I do not like that much. I am a big guy so I need a big bike. No offense...it is a touring bike not a cruiser. Review is good though.

archinuk417 The heel - toe shifter is simple to use. You use your heel to upshift by pressing down with your heel. You use your toe part (underside of shoe) and step onto the toe shifter to put the bike into 1st. gear and also to downshift from a taller gear. I prefer it to using my toe for both up and down shifting.

And my current 2003 Police that I use to cruise around. I would still own my 96 but I got hit by a big rig in 2000 and it got totaled. I really like Road Kings too. It's a shame the throttle is so touchy. They used to have perfect fueling. I was told that it's a drive by wire issue. A guy told me that after the first time I demo'd a Harley touring bike with drive by wire throttle. So disappointing. I imagine someone's found a fix for that, but sucks to pay so much to have to fix something so important to the bike's function. The shaking at idle is one thing that's a deal breaker for me. I like to throw stuff on my seat and put it on as my bike warms up. That bike would have my gear all over the driveway in one rumble flat. I could get really stoked if they put the Softail's counterbalanced engine in there. Not only does it solve the low rpm vibe issue, but you wouldn't ever have to worry about replacing engine mounts. And since the engine would be solidly mounted to the frame, there's no need to buy stabilizers to keep them from wobbling at high speeds and during fast cornering.

HAUSS81 It's not slow speeds that bother me with these hair trigger throttles. It's trying to apply throttle smoothly thru corners so that the suspension doesn't get jacked. For me, motorcycling is largely about their ability to run thru corners well. If they can't do that, they're useless to me.

I NEVER ride in the center of the lane, even when riding alone. That's where all of the vehicle oils drip, therefore it is slicker. I either ride to the left or right, depending on the terrain. Riding with more riders requires staggering to the side of the lane wherever you fall in the pack, left or right.

If you look around, some windshield makers, make different (in between sizes) height's ,other than the standard height sizes the bike dealers have, you can fit it exactly the way you want it,useing a tape measure on the windshield (set on the bike) you have. If your not wearing ear plugs when you ride, that may be where the headaches are comeing from, some say not wearing them rideing causes hearing loss, its the wind force pressure and wind noise. Last year I found me some good sun glasses, there edge brand safety glasses, the lens is made with the best windshield type material (polycarb-) and very clear to look threw,I got the ones that are liter color at the bottom to see holes an ect... in shady places you pass threw by slightly raiseing your head, they help around here with the moon craters in the road.

+MrFluffyHeadMC The nice thing about that setup is that you can go without whenever you want (around town). It literally takes 10 seconds and no tools. You stand in front of the bike, pull the top of the windscreen towards you (forward) several inches, then lift up and it's off. Putting it back on takes a few more seconds to get the notches lined up.

Jeff McLean you won't regret it !! I switched and truly enjoy the Harleys and all the mystique around it ! I love going out in a group to just cruise and enjoy the air and scenery !!! you don't have to buy new , get a used one you will be fine ! I'm currently riding a 2014 Road King with 14 inch apes , bike is insanely comfortable !!!

Reports Virtuoso It's not. All bikes are capable of doing the speed limit and if you're too tempted to speed than perhaps you should have your license revoked.

I just got a Ducati multistrada. Fantastic machine! Will haul ass , but is very satisfying to ride at a sane pace . An exclusive brand without getting into the "Harley thing " it is interesting to talk to people about this bike because it is so interesting. Good luck
