2016 Dodge Charger | CarGurus Test Drive Review

Americans frequently fail to look beyond the surface in order to examine the substance. A better car than most will give it credit for, the 2016 Dodge Charger’s blue-collar, Y-chromosome image masks a remarkably satisfying family sedan. It’s not flawless, but there’s more to the Charger than meets the eye. For one thing, the Charger speaks with a German accent. It’s based on a rear-drive platform that dates to the mid-2000s, one that used bits and pieces from old Mercedes-Benz E-Class and S-Class models when it was first engineered.
All Charger SE and SXT models have an excellent 3.6-liter V6 engine, an impressive 8-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive (RWD). An all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is an option for both trim levels, making the Charger perfect for climates that regularly experience inclement weather. It certainly doesn’t match the bellow and force of one of the Charger’s optional V8 engines, but the V6 engine sounds good when revving and returned 22.9 mpg in combined driving, coming in just short of the EPA’s estimate of 23 mpg. Driving this SXT for a week as a rental - the best and most fun experience of all my car driving life. Smiling the whole time. It can be tame and smooth sipping gas as you cruise or become a monster in a split second when you floor it. The engine keeps pulling all the way to 6.500 rpms. Excellent balance of fun, practicality and style. All the options are well thought out and useful in every day driving. Rear view camera is a must for this car! Otherwise, buying this car as soon as I save enough money.

I had a similar experience. I drove a 2017 Charger as a rental a couple years ago. It was the best rental car I've ever had. I liked it so much that I recently went out and bought a Chrysler 300 for myself (same car, but a little more luxurious).

Mike Harris I know it's a great looking muscle sedan because it has the retro look with some muscular flairs to it. My dad has a 2016 Dodge charger SXT AWD with a 3.6L DOHC 24V Penastar V6 with 292 HP and its a blast to drive and with the AWD it's really great in the snow.

Great video. I'm strongly considering the SXT version for a family car with some umph. I think this car is a great compromise that gets a lot of flack from the sports car crowd, but offers some solid style and performance for someone looking at a traditional sedan.

This car is my first car, I have the XST plus RWD with the black-top appearance pack, super track pack, and the navigation travel group, I've only had it for 3 or so months now but from my experience, it's one of the best value cars out there. Im a junior in highschool, and with the V6, just the right amount of horse power, and only 304 a month, it meets my requirements so well I will most likely buy it up once my lease on it is up! Great car, great review! Thanks a lot!

Lam rof I have a 96 Ford F150 with a 5.0L (302) Windsor V8 with 206,820 miles on it and it's still going strong. The only thing I replaced on my truck was the starter but other than that mostly was just simple maintenance, took out the transmission fluid just to get rid of the shuttering it was making and it hasn't had a problem ever since. Also the Dodge charger is a big car for Mr.B and my dad too loves driving his 2016 Dodge charger SXT AWD V6.

I agreed with the first sentence you said, but the rest is so not true unless this is your first time driving a vehicle. If you've been driving the blind spots in this aren't bad at all. Now if this was a SUV with 3 rows yeah, but no this is a small sedan. Just my opinion
