I don't know a lot about middle and long distance running. Why do they force them to have a pacer for this race? Shouldn't they be allowed to go as fast as they like for the entire race. Isn't that the point of a race?

Africans are the original humans. Look at some tribes in Africa and how they live, that’s how the original ppl lived. Now it’s described as poverty. I disagree. Out of any race Africans are able to endure the pain a lot better because they’re built for it. That’s why we made “successful” slaves. Other races died off dropping like body bags since they couldn’t endure the hot days in the fields. Only if enough melanated ppl realized just how powerful their genetics are.

How do some of these African runners have much bigger upper legs than lower legs? Is it the lack of weighlifting?

Tomas Michael most likely a natural adaptation for speed and endurance RUNNING. You want the lower legs to be thin and light but with strong bone since it needs to be lifted so often (check out artificial lower leg design)
