2016 BMW M235i vs M2 | Is It Worth an Extra $10,000?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today we’re in the 2016 BMW M235i. Right off the bat, it’s a much more pedestrian version compared to the BMW M2. Instead of the wider body of the M2 and the extra aggressiveness, this M235i is quite normal and gives off the feel that it’s going to behave itself. The question is… should you get the BMW M235i or the M2 of the same generation for $10,000 more?

Tuning to a Stage 2 setup for not too much money definitely wakes up the car.

95% of the 235 flaws can be resolved for under $4,000 including coilovers which dramatically improves steering response and control. A simple tune and bolt on (intercooler, downpipe, charge pipe, cold air intake), make the powertrain far more durable and engaging. I chose the 235i over the m2 partly because I didn’t want to daily the m2 because it was to stiff for my commute, the roads in my area are terrible. and I didn’t want to abuse it daily because I travel a lot for work. So for someone like me the m235i is perfect. Also not once have I felt like I needed an lsd. the xdrive puts the power down in all conditions wonderfully. One things for sure though, it’ll never be an m2, so if status symbol is what you’re after then go with the m2.

Well said. For some of us, the M series cars are unreasonable for every day driving. Then there's the dreaded "M tax" on everything, from insurance to maintenance. No thanks.

235 also available in AWD and convertible, you can put the m2 tune on it which will add a lot uptop, you can do stage 1 on stock and add 20% hp and 25% torque down low/mid range. Its still definitely more of a dual purpose not a dedicated performance car. Just paid 27k for my 61k miles 2016 m235i xdrive vert. It accelerates much faster than the RWD cars because its not traction limited

Nice review👍 im doubting between an m235i, m2 and m3. The insurance prices of the real M cars are double the price of an m235i in my country im not sure if its worth it in addision to the extra 10/15k

Scion is prob more affordable… older m235i will run you into a lot for maintenance. If cost is no issue then m235i without a doubt

@@SamNRacingget a m235i it’s hella reliable just have to do oil changes every 4-5k miles but you can purchase an oil chnage plan with bmw for only 250 and they change it every 4-5k miles for 3 years with one time price of 250. M235i is super super fun you’ll love it.
