2016 Aprilia RSV4 RR vs. 2016 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Considering how fast, how advanced, and how downright amazing today’s literbikes are, how much would you expect to pay for such performance? Twenty grand? Forty? More? Taking into account the cost of today’s fastest hypercars, which can’t hold a candle to today’s literbikes in terms of sheer acceleration, even paying $50,000 can seem like a relative bargain.
Luckily for us, we can get our hands on the Aprilia RSV4 RR or Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, two new for 2016 amazing two-wheeled rocketships for $17,000 - and have some change left over.

That sweet sound of a V4 engine is unbeatable.
a major problem in this is that it is ZX10R American version is limited, the European version is much stronger, good analysis, good video

I have a 2006 1000cc racing bike with no ABS, no IMU, no launch control, no traction control, no engine modes and no engine braking adjustment and it is great knowing they are not there to stop me from flying off the track at any time. I really like that and it makes it so much fun to ride. Each to their own I guess. Enjoy riding!

I'd go with the aprilia. Because it's a bit more exotic here in NC and sounds amazing.

Guy great review. More reviews like this... Take your time talking about this machines
V4 is the best engine design for race motorcycle and especially for race bikes.
I own the same gen5 zx10r here in the Philippines and believe me without restrictions it can kick ass
V4 midrange kings.
Inline 4 is more reliable, more refined and easy to maintain than v4 but v4 sound like a beast.
Yeah Fontucky! (Fontana). Do more reviews/testing at that speedway. I like that track
The F4 will be interesting with the way mv is following, this is a great time to be a biker
loving the backing music
Kawi all the way! The restrictions on this bike are insane. Not only is it US restricted, it has 3 catalytic converters! With a de restriction it makes 15 more horses. With de restriction, slip on and tune, it makes 25 more hp peak and at least 10 more hp through out the rev range.

I'm assuming you know how to read a dyno chart? This is Sae scale that's why it reads lower than this channel's std reading. The green is stock at 164 hp. Brown/Red is Unrestricted at 182 hp and decat with link pipe is 191 hp! That's a 27 hp increase from stock. I didn't theorize these things, I research results. The Aprillia is a great machine, but other than engine sound and it's exotic factor... Kawi all the way!
@AfroRider

+Ian Pana You sound like someone who has no experience riding an Aprilia! and you forget a small detail, that Aprilia is just as stock as that kawi. reading numbers online doesn't tell the whole story. there is much more to a liter bike than straight up horse power. Torque, power delivery, engine character, handling and Rider skills are a big part...
@AfroRider
8 жыл бұрын
Ian Pana U right and I know the Kawi is the most restricted, that's why I don't like it so much anymore, because you have to add an extra $3-4k just to get the full power. But the better handling/chassi and extra torque of the Aprilia, Racy feel, looks and sound makes up for the lack of raw power (which isn't much difference) in my opinion. Also, it just feels more special man... Finally, now a days there just isn't a bad liter bike. These are just tiny details
@lav1daloca

+Ian Pana I know a guy in germany he gets 218HP out of the new ZX just by removing the restrictions and chip adjustments, decat - bye bye Arillia (and anybody else)
I would go with the ZX10R for one reason! as far as aftermarket parts goes the ZX10R part's have more available worldwide and cheaper, that's my thoughts.

Neel Beke Idk my buddy had a RSV4 a little while back and after 2200 miles he took it in (after the first oil change) and almost all of the valves were so out of whack it damaged the head, so they replace the head, a few thousand miles later guess what? same thing! So this time supposedly its fixed, it had something to do with the, and don't quote me cuz I'm not a mechanic and I can't really remember at the moment, but the spacers for the valves were not heat treated properly and they failed.

i own a gen4 zx10r and tested a gen5 last week. the gen5 feels gutless compared the gen4. on the road the gen4 feels faster but when your flat out the gen5 is very fast. one thing to mention about the gen5 is its engine is super smooth and its decieving how fast your actually going because of this. gen4 for road gen5 for track

For me id go the zx10r both amazing bikes but for me I just think the Kawasaki has the edge on the all round package
when will motorcycle.com review EBR with the rest of the superbikes?
They can say that now about the Ninja, but that Ninja is very restricted. Damn US regulations.
Does the 2016 ZX10 have a ride by wire throttle ?
So what effect is changing the sprocket having, Gearing down or up? Front or back sprocket?
@ShamanWS6
8 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Hoffman Steeper gearing to take more advantage of the high RPM horsepower. But you could also do the same to the Aprilia, it just doesn't need it as much as the zx10r does, as its power delivery is broader.
The Brembo brakes are always a very good choice.
Ninja always
which is more lightweight in track.?
Zx for life
I would like to see you guys have these bikes unrestricted to see the outcome ! The Kawa is euro 4 spec .
From California where lane splitting is legal, own the Kawi. From the stop light, this one is slower off the line than my 2006 GSX-R1000. I like to get in front of the cages, big green is making it difficult for me.
He says the 2016 ZX10R is "Worlds better than the 2015 model" I think that must be an overstatement. Some reviewers are saying the 2016 mid range power slightly better but brakes not quite that same good feel as 2015. I would test ride both and make my mind up. I like the review just because I get to see the bike out on the track in stock form.
They should've brought to the mix the R1, same price, performance is pretty close too

+CBRandCar S1000 is a numbers/bragging bike, way too unreliable to consider. They have way too many emgine problems to be taken seriously in my opinion. BMW needs to learn that power delivery and reliability are more important than the extra 5 hp. The ergonomics on the S1000 are definitely trailing the new competitor bikes. They're definitely rocket ships in a straight line though.
Am I seeing it right, Aprilia doesn't have rear seat /pegs? I love it for the way tank and seat make it really comfortable to lean, but I like to have the utility of throwing someone on the back if needed (crashed biker /girlfriend needs a quick lift...)
@ShamanWS6

+hellario2 It does have them. Neither bike is great for two-up riding but they both have the required bits.
Both are mine!

aprilia is dream bike 😍
I have to admit that I thought the ZX10R would bring more game. But I also know just how good the RSV4 is. Three things that I kind of wonder about: one the RSV4 does have some engine braking control - the Race throttle map and Track throttle map differ only in the amount of engine braking they do. Secondly, the RSV4 has Brembo M432 calipers which are actually a small evolution on the M50 calipers that are on the ZX10R. Interestingly, I have read another test that slaked the ZX10R's brakes and I think the difference between the bikes on test here could be somewhat down to pad wear or the like, though with the RSV4's engine in the lowest (stock) position, braking is slightly different. Third, the "5-axis IMU" is not really an advancement of what the Aprilia has, as we live in a 3D world, not a 5D world, and I wonder about whether is really an advantage in it or the Yamaha system, which uses the newer IMU as well... from what I have heard to date, the ZX10R system still needs some love to work the way you'd expect. The 5-axis system may be a way to work around the advanced TC patents that Aprilia has. All that said, cheers to Kawasaki, as they have brought a bike which is competitive with the european models. They're very close. And yes the Kawasaki can be de-restricted for considerably more power but honestly this is the base-level V4 here, too.
@Mudux
8 жыл бұрын
+Steve C regarding the 5 axis IMU, you actually need 6 parameters to locate and predict a body position in a 3d environment: z, y and z inclination and x, y and z velocity.

Awesome review guys!!! Absolutely loved it. Aprillia RSV-4 is definitely my cup of tea. Maybe even in my future! I agree.. At that price, the Aprillia provides a better package. Just replace the ass-numbing seat and you're good to go!

+Angry Skipper I really don't think the Aprilia's seat is worse than anyone else's and it's better than most. My GSX-R seat would start out comfortable and an hour later, felt like my ass was straddling the frame rails.
At 5:40min. You can see the zx10r hit a higher top speed down the back straight compare to the rsv4
Aprilia if bought new with a great warranty and Ninja if bought used. (Also probably Ninja anyway cuz my first entry in the big bikes was the Zx6r and it never gave me a single problem.)
Isn't the zx10r built to new emission standards while the older aprilia isn't

So where is the race??
I want these bikes in my garage but insurance would cost more than the bikes lol I wish 600cc bikes had the charisma and electronics the liter class did. I would sell both of my current bikes to buy a 600cc version of the rsv4

@ShamanWS6

Very forgiving and with its electronic aids, you could make the case that it's decent. But NO, it is not. It is a 200hp superbike, and it can go so quickly with so little time, it is not good for the hands of a beginner. Get a cheap, low-powered bike like a SV650 and learn to ride on it - drop it a couple times in a parking lot like everyone does. Then get a bike that you really want. I know nobody wants to do things the smart way but ...

Odd. I know the subject of discussion here is the 2016 ZX10, and the last one I rode was a 2012 version, but their comments would apply perfectly to that... I am an old litre bike rider, I got my first 4 valve GSX11 in 1980, and the big midrange is one of the things I love about large bikes. The XZ10R is a lot like riding a 600... It does go, but you need to be at about 10 for it to happen.

+Kneedragon1962 That the thing I loved about my FZ6 too. It was nice and calm as a pussy cat at low RPM. Great for riding around town or on a twisty road. If you decided to let it wander into the high RPM range that pussy cat became a roaring lion.

Is that really what you want in a liter bike? You would know if you’ve indeed been at it for those many years! Seems to me late 90’s early 2000 liter bikes had what I want in midrange. Your thoughts?

Ugh. By the time I upgrade from the ninja 300 all the liter bikes will be idiot proof. infact now that these bikes are becoming more easy to ride the ninja 300, r3 and the cbr300r (yes the 26hp "dirt bike") will be the bike more easy to crash on! Heck the Yamaha r1m has live suspension adjustment now if you go into a corner to fast not only will the braking combined abs save your butt but the suspension stops diving that most people get from braking to hard! And you can't turn it off!!!

+Taijean Moodie No technology in this world will save a bad rider or unlucky rider from crashing. they are just there to help you go faster

+Afrorider Motovlogs Yeah But I mean if you break hard on these bikes they would help you unlike an non-abs r3 which you would crash! Basicly What I was saying is the liter bikes are becoming more easy to ride than say the fz6r or a non abs ninja 650 or even the cbr500r! The c mode on the r1 cuts the power on it so much that chase said on the first ride video it acted like a 600cc bike!

+Taijean Moodie The key to not lock your brake and crash is to never rely on your brakes 100%. Brake enough and swerve out of the way. experienced riders never lock their brakes because they don't jam on them expecting to stop. Don't brake on a bike like you do on a car.
