    Bought a 2016 pilot new. Still own it. Everything you mentioned happened to mine. Luckily had an extended warrantee which covered everything. The tachometer bouncing / transmission judder pops up about every 30k miles. Drain the transmission fluid, refill. Roll through all the gears including reverse X3 fixes the problem. Great review !

    I own a 2016 touring, second owner, the keyless ignition problem was solved by the dealership with zero cost, along with a software update for the transmission and a reinforcement for the hood latch. After these issues fixed, I find the car excellent. Good gas mileage, confort and security all together.

    Bought brand new a 2017 Touring edition (still own), all problems mentioned have appeared. Already replaced ignition switch my self ( about $65 OEM). Currently getting the emissions problem catalytic converter code, miss fire codes, but still runs like great. I'm a long commuter, car will hit the 165K miles in a week so definitely out of warranty :( but luckily I'm a good DIY mechanic so I'm able to save some $$$ and do most of the maintenance and repairs myself. Thanks for the pointers, will take a look at the fuel injectors first before messing with the catalytic converters. ;)

    Couple of things I can add, 2016 pilot touring (elite) in Canada, engine knock sensor failed at about 140000km, out of pocket expense. Tailgate rust under license plate light, rust through, changed tailgate, under warranty. Fan blower motor likes to make noise in cold weather, didn’t bother to change, procedure is easy, oem motor is pricey. Fog light used to be beaten up by rocks/road debris.

    Thanks for taking the time to put a video like this together. I have a 2016 pilot with the 6 sp and 86k; I just recently noticed the shudder if I am cruising with light to no throttle, and then when I gently reengage the throttle the shudder happens. Since it's past the 80k am I out of luck to have the dealer do anything? Also, if I change the trans fluid every 15k do you think the trans will last?

  • @BCautosolutions

    @BCautosolutions

    Hey, so even tho your above the 80k it won’t hurt to see if they will still cover it. I’d not do a 3x trans flush and then every 15k do a transmission service going forward. The trans should be ok but obviously there’s no guarantee in that.

    @RyanKrantz

    @Hondamobilemechanic thanks for the advice. After watching your other pilot videos, I believe I miss spoke in regards to the Judder. If cruising at almost any mph, it feels like the torque converter lags to fully re-engage when letting off on the gas pedal for a few seconds, and the n reapplying throttle input. Any ideas? • @BCautosolutions

    Hey thanks for watching. So people saying don’t get the 9 speed don’t have any idea what they or saying or experience. We have had nearly zero issues with the 9 speed. The 6 speed is problematic but if you stay on top of the transmission services (I highly recommend every 15k a drain and fill) then it can get a way less problematic trans as well just like the 9 speed. Buying a used one can be risky because chances are proper maintence wasn’t done on the 6 speed and could be too little too late, for that reason I say go with the 9 speed if the budget allows to get, which like you said comes on a higher trim pilot.

    I apologize for butting in but I wouldn’t recommend a Honda Pilot. I have a 2017 and it’s not a good car. I bought is used with very low mileage but it’s already becoming an issue. This is my 2nd Honda and both have had issues within 3 to 5 years of manufacturing. If I could go back in time I would get a Toyota. Toyota has never given me (my son or husband being the main mechanics for usual things) issues until they got beyond 10 years old or older. That’s as long as you do regular maintenance but that goes for most cars. I’ve just experienced that Honda isn’t as reliable as Toyota since I don’t have a lot of money to spend of mechanics that do things that my son or husband couldn’t do for whatever reasons. Wish you the best!

    I am now having issues with starting. I went out one morning and went to start it and it sounded like the battery was going dead. The alarm wouldn't set and it had the clicking noise and then dead. I had it jumped and drove it for a little while and went to reverse and I had the steering wheel turned as I was backing up and it bucked and made a strange sound had no power and I straightened the wheel and power was back and parked it got out and didn't touch it for 3 days. Went out on a warm dry day and it started right up and had no issues. Then next day I went to start it and it did a slow crank and started. I am so mad have car 2 months now and issues starting.

    @hondamobilemechanic - i just bought a used 2017 Pilot Touring a week ago with 95K miles. I just took the car on its first long trip and at random times, primarily while trying to pass a car on the Interstate, whenever i would try to accelerate to pass a car , it would make a hissing sound by the steering wheel, the speed would drop to about 40-45 MPH and the gas pedal would go limp. I would press on the gas but it would not accelerate, i would need to pull back to the right lane behind the car i was trying to pass and eventually the gas peddal would work and the car would accelerate. This happened randomly, even once when i was just cruising and there were no car infront of me. There where few times when i had cars right on my tail and the car would drop from about 70MPH to 45MPHs.. it really freaked me out and my wife is a little freaked out about driving the car, especially with the kids on the car. I have not seen that mentioned anywhere. Any thoughts on what it could be? Also, this happened with ECON on and off, LKAS off and Lane Departure both On and Off. Thanks in advance for any input.

    2016 Pilot Touring AWD, 120K miles Currently, dealing with the service bulletin issue that causes multiple codes to flash at once, and requires fuel injector replacement. My local dealer advised me this would be warranted at no cost to me....however, the parts are on backorder.
