2015 Subaru WRX METRA AXXESS ASWC-1 Steering wheel control

Quick video of my Axxess ASWC-1 aftermarket radio steering wheel controls. Using this so I can still use my factory steering wheel volume/seek controls.

- Soldering Gun and solder
Opinion: Love the radio, makes the factory speakers sound so much better. There are newer options like the NEX series from Pioneer. After adding all of these accessories you can almost get a unit with NAV or a newer NEX unit so keep that in mind :).
Note: This radio does not yet support iOS 8 or 9 for AppRadio as of this posting.

I just did an install on a 2016 STI and there was one step which I don't believe was mentioned in the video. It may be due to the new steering wheel. As soon as you reset it, you get red/green lights blinking. You need to hold the "volume up" on the steering wheel for 2 seconds or until it goes solid green. This video helped a lot as did the instructions online.

I didn't cut any of the wires from the factory harness, but for pin 4 and pin 13 I stripped a portion, wrapped the appropriate connections and electrical taped them. How did you do Pin 14 from the Harness? Did you cut it in half and run it to the big ground connection (head unit, harness, awsc ground, micro bypass ground)? Or did you ground it elsewhere? My big ground connected is already heat shrunk, so I would really hate to have to undo all of that, but it appears pin 14 is the only circuit i'm missing right now.

So I am looking at the AE site for what I will need in my 2015 WRX. So did you get other two harnesses to maintain the AUX and USB? If you don't get those there is no way to use the AUX or USB right? SO what would be your option in how to connect to the new HU?

Peter - If you can, order the harnesses from ae64.com/Products.htm it would save you a ton of time/headaches as he already has the one for the ASWC-1 and the one to retain the USB factory connector. He also has an aftermarket harness that lets you avoid taping into the factory harness which I did in my video. With his harness you don't have to. The wires can change based on your year and also based on whether or not you have the factory NAV or not. Check out the vehicle fit guide if you haven't already - axxessinterfaces.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=19

Try installing the latest firmware if you haven't already. Make sure you also reset the unit as it could have been previously programmed. Also, double check the wire connections. If you've done all that already just give them a call, they have excellent phone support at least with my personal experience. Good luck.

  • @DeeperImageAutomotive

    9 жыл бұрын

Joel Fisher I don't remember the wire colors to be honest. I used the PDF which tells you the pin number you need to connect to the car side of the harness. If you are looking at the harness you can count the pins and figure out the wire color. Pin 13 and pin 14 on the car harness is what I connected those two wires to and everything else on the radio side harness. You can get a full harness from ae64.com/Products.htm, including the ebrake overrride and ASWC-1 already installed on the harness. His harness eliminates the need to tap into the car side of the harness. It doesn't cost much more than buying the components on your own. I didn't know about his site when I did my install. Also, check out autoharnesshouse.com

When you attached the wires from the aswc to the car, did you attach to the aftermarket harness or attach to wires inside the car itself?

  • @DeeperImageAutomotive

I attached 2 wires to pins 13/14 on the car side harness. There are some pre-made harnesses that do not require that. It's all on the diagram I got from their website. I don't remember the colors unfortunately.

Jose Mendoza the aftermarket car side harness that attaches to the radio radio harness? Or the car side harness meaning the harness that's inside the car while everything is still disconnected?

  • @DeeperImageAutomotive

The two wires I'm talking about connect to harness attached to the car. The other wires you connect to the aftermarket harness that connects to the radio. So 13/14 pins are the OEM factory harness inside the car.

A couple of things. If you go with a newer NEX radio (they've come down in price from when I got this unit almost 2 years ago) you don't need to mess with these adapters. However, to answer your original question. You will need a few adapters that will cost around $50 or so. See the description of this video for all the links. You need a VGA adapter that plugs into the back of the Pioneer radio, then you will also need a special Apple/VGA/Lightning adapter which is pricey as well. The VGA cable/adapter connects to this apple vga adapter and then you just connect your lightning cable to the Apple adapter. This radio is clunky as it is restive touch and not capacitive touch like the newer NEX radios. It also doesn't support Apple Car Play. I would honestly get a newer unit that supports CarPlay or Android Radio and doesn't require these extra adapters. When I did this, the 2015 WRX was also a brand new model and Axxess didn't even have it listed as a supported vehicle on their install guide online. I had to research and just try things out to see what worked. There are tons of write-ups now and solutions now, Nasioc, AE64.com, Subie Speed, Axxess own website, etc. You should also check out their wiring/install page on their website - metradealer.com/files/aswc/ASWC-1_INST_959.pdf
