2015 Subaru Outback: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

( www.TFLcar.com ) Debuting an all new wagon, the 2015 Subaru Outback makes a dramatic entrance at the 2014 New York Auto Show. Sporting all new, contemporary sheet-metal, a new nose, new interior and a new transmission, the 2015 Subaru Outback is basically an all-new machine. The Outback is the bread-and-butter for Subaru as it is one of their largest sellers, so this updated design is extremely important for Subaru.
The base model 2015 Subaru Outback will have a 175 horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder, boxer engine that makes 174 lbs-feet of torque. Subaru says the 2.5-liter can get 25 miles per gallon city, 33 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined. The top-of-the-line engine is the 256 hp H6, 3.6-liter that makes 247 lb-ft of torque. Available only on the Limited model, Subaru says it will get 19 mpg city, 27 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined.

Just bought a 2015 Outback Limited. So far I am impressed with the build quality and sound dampening. It is so quiet, even quieter than my 2010 Buick Enclave. And the H4 2.5L engine is just right for my family of 4. No need for that H6 unless you are going to be towing something or carry full size passengers with tons of gear. And the 550 Watt Harmon Kardon stereo sounds awesome. And 33 MPG isn't bad either.

I bought a 2015 Subaru Outback Premium about 3 weeks ago. My personal opinion is the build quality is not up to the standards that I would have expected. It won't compare with a Honda, Toyota or Nissan when it comes to functional design or build quality . Had I known then what I know now, I would not have purchased this particular car. I would encourage anyone who is interested in buying one to do a lot of research and if you decide to buy one. Inspect that vehicle closely. Pay attention to little things like the size of the glove box, and the fact that the light in the glove box is so dim, they should have not even bothered. Take a good look at the poorly written manual. Realize that taillights in the rear hatch are just decorations, they don't really light up. Pay close attention to the uniformity of the space between the hood and the body, doors and body, especially the hatch and the body. My rear hatch is way off, but once you buy the car, you will be told that there is nothing that Subaru Corp. can do about it and it is within specifications. The car drives nice in bad weather and that is why most people buy them. Maybe none of the little things will bother you. If that is the case, buy one and enjoy the $65 oil changes every 6000 miles. You might want to google "Subaru oil consumption problems". Oh I forgot, the radio sucks also.

Ken Stephens you don't change your own oil? that's lame. Especially on the 2.5. Easy as hell. That oil consumption thing is with the 2.0 turbo I believe, one of their newer engines. I have an 08 forester xt with over 153, 000 mile and I never had any major problems. The best vehicle thus far I've owned and I've owned several.

Manual and the conventional 5 speed auto are dead. The manual mode on the CVT is not bad. On the highway you can lock it in an artificial 6th gear. So when you pass you just use torque and the Outback wont feel like a giant motor boat.

fatboy19831 Manual transmission will inevitably die as electric is the future and EVs only use single speed transmissions (the ones that are coming out now anyway). But frankly, I don't see why, at the very least, sports car manufacturers like Porsche or Ferrari are eliminating the manual transmission at this point. Sure, DCTs make the cars get bigger numbers on the brochure, but these cars should at least have the option as the whole point is to have fun. Just my opinion.

Small inexpensive sports cars with small engines will have manuals for some time to come. In the near future almost all Automatics will be faster and more efficient than their manual counterpart like the BMW 328i and Vw GTI. The Americans and Japanese are working hard to get to that level. I think the Koreans may leap frog them.

Digging the improvements to the front end, but still not a terribly sexy car. I suppose it's not really meant to be. Interior still sucks. Subaru seems intent on just making this practical and nothing else. If they could try a little more style in and out, keep the always-standard AWD, they'd probably sell way more of these. I live in the north of Canada and for many this is used as a FAMILY vehicle that can tackle the long, cold winters. Would be nice if this was better looking for the summer, too.

They are sold out so how can they sell more of them ?? Inside, the new Outback is also an evolution rather than a radical rethink, but we see it as uncontroversially better in every respect. Subaru has lost the upright, 'winged' look of the previous instrument panel and instead gone with more of a squared-off, high-end-audio look at the middle, with smooth, organic curves to the trim elsewhere and the corners pushed outward even more. With additional upgrades to the seats and the quality of the trims, the 2015 Outback is definitely stepping further upmarket.

  • @mikerockstar

You're totally right about the interior. But as soon as you compare it to other competitors interiors I find the Subaru to be far behind a lot of the competition in interior styling/aesthetics. And they certainly aren't selling out in a flash. They sell well RELATIVELY for the size of company and such, I suppose. The Canadian market is probably good for Subaru. But if they want to sell more they'll have to up their style game, in and out. And give the base engines more power! Sheesh! :)

  • @fatboy19831

mikerockstar The Outback is one of the most efficient gas powered AWD SUVs in America. Four 6.7 feet tall people and their luggage can drive down the highway at 65 mph and get over 30 mpg with the base 4 auto. The outback is fine around town and has good bottom end torque with a smooth response. If you want more power spend 4 grand and get the H6. Buy an X3 or a Highlander. The Outback has no real competition. Every thing is bigger, smaller, More sporty or boring and less capable. The Outback is unique. The closest competition is Subaru's own Forester.

Take it on a gravel road and get back with me. Unless Subaru screwed things up. Lift off mid turn nail the gas and enjoy oversteer forever. Not much body roll and pot hols disappear under such conditions.

Does look very generic. Could be a Hyundai or a KIA and nobody would tell.

HDaviator It will last longer than a Hyundai or Kia hold its value better. More efficient. Subaru has room for real sized Americans. Hyundai awd is toy-like compared to Subaru. Stop joking.

Subarus Outbacks have always looked like boring grandma cars. So what's your beef? But Subarus are excellent cars for driving off-road and in the winter such as in the East coast of the US. And they are less expensive than the competition. And they are very reliable.
