Spanish MRE do not include spoon, fork or knife because those utensils are part of the standard equipment. We carry them in a nice pouch attached to the belt. The are made out of steel and somewhat miniaturised. Just saying, because you pointed it out in several occasions. Nice vid anyway, brought to me some really nice memories

Try French food and then try Spanish, at that moment you will understand why one of the things that the French like the most in Spain is their food, and the favorite destination of the French when traveling is Spain, they are countries neighbors. It was what happened to me, I checked for myself.

I spent a couple of week working with Spanish mountain troops in Kosovo in '03. They liked our U.S. rations because they were light and you could break down the parts you wanted to carry and just pull it out of a pocket whenever you had a moment. They liked them for lunch. The Spanish meals were more sit down affairs. We would mix the two in the morning and have a sit down Spanish meal for dinner.

The differences would have been more to do specifically with religious beliefs and customs, rather than culture.

I really really try to keep an open mind in food, and I LOVE to try new things...but that canned squid in ink...I dunno. But then again I not a fan of many canned seafoods. I prefer fresh as possible. Canned seafood can be...funky. I probably wouldn't even eat canned tuna if I hadn't originally had it as a child. I *hate* that, because know SOOO many grown adults that won't ever try anything that they don't recognize or haven't had before - not sure what the cut-off is, somewhere in childhood I assume - and they eat a VERY limited diet...and I really REALLY like to try new and "foreign" foods...but "canned squid in ink"...I just don't know if I have a strong enough stomach for that.

Hi there! I am spaniard and I have been a professional soldier in the army for two years, during the first half of the 90s. I have been nostalgic when I saw your video, the format of the army combat rations has not changed: the same color, the same cans...And practically the food, it is the same that I knew 27 years ago, except for some things, like the gum or the toothbrush that I have seen out there. I think that was not at that time What I see, the quality of the food hasn't changed at all. It was, and is, of high quality. It was exactly the same food that you could buy in any food store or spanish supermarket, only that the can was another color, the characteristic olive green, in this case for the spanish army. But the product was the same By the way, what you put on the cookies is condensed milk. Its true use is to pour it over water, and thus make a kind of milk, but it can also have the utility that you want A good video

In Spain it is really common to drink coffee with milk for breakfast sweeted with a bit of sugar. Our coffee use to be more concentrated than american coffee. The condensated milk is to mix with coffee: you get your traditional coffee with milk and you don't need to add sugar because concentrated milk is already sweet. Squids cooked in their own ink is a tradicional food in spain. When the squid is little we call it "chipiron" and it is really common to cook them filled with the tentacles with a sauce made with their ink or tother kind of spiced sauce. We also use to cook the ink from cuttlefish. There is a dish similar to Paella that is rice with seafood and coloured with cuttlefish ink: "Arroz negro" (Black rice) . Ink from squids or cuttlefish gives a really good taste to dishes Related to this kind of "Pate", we don't use to eat it directly. The most common is to extend it over bread slices to eat it in that way , or extend it between to bread slices and do a sandwich Quince jelly used to be eaten as dessert in combination with cheese. the "granurality" is because it is good, withou chemical additives. Quince meat has this granurality. If quince jelly has a a smooth jelly texture it means that the chemical additives are higher

I do appreciate the flexibility aspect of U.S. MREs - and that MREs need to be tailored to ensure proper nutrient and caloric intake in combat situations. Still, I look at those chunks of meat and fish in the Spanish meal, and feel American soldiers deserve comparable quality meals. Thanks for the tremendous public service you provide 💚

Never really encountered it, except maybe occasionally as a banking ingredient - until I started living in the Southwest US (Southern Arizona) and shopping at Mexican markets. Sweetened C condensed milk and goat milk caramels and those short-bread type biscuits, like "Maria's". Not the hugest fan of a lot of the Mexican bakery goods, but maybe if I go to a fresher source like a Mexican bakery. But they all seem a bit dry to me, and not sweet enough. (I'm not a huge fan of US baked goods either, for the opposite they tend to be WAY to sweet. I partly grew up in Germany as an Army Brat, and German and other European pastries are less overpoweringly sweet. They actually taste like something other than just a mouthful of sugar.) But anyway...yeah, didn't know there were so many delicious uses for sweetened condensed milk. And good for making caramel and fudge too, but never thought of using it alone or as a topping before I moved here, and it's delicious. I was missing out!

It's healthy food also, and no need for bran tablets like many rations do because you have a lot of veggies, chickpeas and the cereals which have a lot of fiber... Also, the dishes that are in the rations are typical Spanish food, "grandma food" we could say, so it is comfortable too...

WHEN you eat Spanish MREs you know where you come from & you know what you're fighting for. Home & a taste of home. I could really see that the company behind the Spanish thought carefully about preparing these rations. So, Spanish MREs along with Belorussian, French, will be on my to try list. BUT one thing puzzles me, obviously these MREs had a strong emphasis on fluid balance etc, so why so much vit C? Isn't it a diuretic? A bit of an inconvenience when you're sat in in an AFV, & you have to keep getting out to have a tinkle. DOES the modern day Spanish Armada get supplemental tea & coffee rations? Spanish biccies with DCM...O yes! But not without a mug of builders tea! NICE review S89👍

Those TOSTADA biscuits are actually popular in Spain ^^ Very traditional biscuits we have for breakfast or ''merienda'' (between lunch and dinner) :):) Also I have to say that our food in general is very carefully cooked and prepared in every single meal, we really care about what we eat and it is such a whole tradition. That ''fat'' thing you found in the POTE GALLEGO its called ''TOCINO'', next time have it with spreaded on to bread... SO TASTY AND DELICIOUS :) Im glad you liked it

No you don't. I tried my Spanish on a Spaniard while in Amsterdam. He didn't like it. They speak Castilian Spanish. I think they teach Mexican Spanish in our school.
