Aristotle's point that the best teacher demonstrates his own profound knowledge by conveying it to others with clarity brilliantly exemplified by Dr Peterson. He clearly cares to illuminate the subject (or the world) rather than give the listener a sense of their cerebral inadequacies. How encouraging and inspiring! Extremely grateful for the upload! it's a pity I need to rest, sleep etc between lectures...

It amazing how the majority of people who know about Jordan Peterson only know him through his political discussions or his books 12 rules for life series. Before everyone started labeling him alt-right or anything as stupid as that I watched through plenty of his lectures. These are the best lectures I've ever had the experience of listening to, I don't take any notes and I can articulate the lectures very well. Jordan also gave me a substantial amount of perspective when it came to the bible, I hate church but I can listen to Jordan Peterson talk about heroic initiation and Jesus Christ for hours.

What about Alan Watts? In my opinion they are on the same level. Christopher Hithens too, but I kinda lost interest in his ideas and the way he presented them and argued. Not completely, but it has substiantally diminished. Definitely professor Peterson is in the upper echelon of top lobsters among youtube talking heads. There are also JAmes Hilman and Terrence McKenna and last but not least Slavoj Zizek. And Richard Grannon and Camilla PAglia. All are among my favourite speakers and I love them all. But buck to Peterson. Been listening to him since 2017 and not the least bit tired or bored of the content and the form. My girlfriend would on the other hand agree with you I guess. She is not impressed but all the figures I mention. She's kind of a devoted fan of Jordan Peterson. Especially the "clean your room" part. She often says: pst, bucko! And I instantly know... :D

Dear Dr. Peterson, I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for the tremendous effort you have dedicated to sharing your unique perspective with the world. As a 33-year-old individual navigating the complexities of life, I have increasingly noticed a disheartening scarcity of rational thought prevailing in many circles I find myself in. While not entirely absent, it remains far less prevalent than I had anticipated. However, I must express my admiration for your unwavering consistency in upholding your own principles and beliefs. Your practical approach to reasoning is truly refreshing, and the manner in which you articulate and disseminate your ideas serves as an inspiring beacon for those who have grown disillusioned with experiences to the contrary. In light of this, I simply wanted to extend my heartfelt thanks for all that you do. Your contributions are invaluable, and they continue to make a profound impact on countless individuals, myself included. With deep appreciation, Sean

No one ever clapped a lecturer when i was at uni. I think it's great though - if it is genuinely deserved as is definitely the case for JPs interaction and delivery. He doesn't regurgitate teaching points by rote or dot points on a PowerPoint. I think the other thing that separates JP from the herd is his wisdom. Sadly a lot of lecturers are very smart people that are very bad at imparting that knowledge...it appears many, even if they have knowledge and understanding haven't made the next leap to practical wisdom. The bane of professional academics I suppose?

Speaking of dreams I have a theory: That our brain is constantly dreaming, and that we ignore it because the part responsible for conscious awareness (and by extend the parts of the body that receive external stimuli) overwrite it. An idea that just popped in my head then is basically part of a dream that I largely ignored but got the concept. Daydreamers (like me) can redirect sensory experience) and notice the mind generating the dreams. If the difference between imagination and dream is the amount of influence we can exercise in *what* we see/do, then maybe people with vivid imagination can control the contents of their dreams better the moment they're aware of them?

The Bathtub That's a fascinating view. I feel like I'm at the low end of noticing daytime imagination/dreams. I've always felt less creative than others. I'll try considering your view that I'm always dreaming and maybe tune in a little better.

Well there is lucid dreaming where you become aware that you're dreaming within a dream and can then control it or consciously travel and interact with the dream world. I daydream sometimes to the point where if interrupted by someone I find it jarring. Or if I forget where I am within my daydream it's like losing your bookmark in a novel or maybe more like losing the novel altogether. I've panicked before when a daydream slips my mind after getting distracted by something. I almost always can get it back/remember it again though.

This is such a brilliant lecture, the ability there to bring everyone into the room by asking them about their life experiences and to contemplate the affects it had on them. Then he affirms to them that they know the pain it brings and it’s devastating affects. It put me and probably the w whole class in a place where I was waiting on every word. It brings the metaphorical representation into my own life and into the lives of the students so that they can understand it based on their own contextual knowledge built through the lived experience. Brilliant teaching

I would have the following Question to Prof. Peterson: we hear that brain size developed in reagrd to group size. Geoffrey Miller has the theory that brain size is an sexual ornament like the peacocks tail, as we use our brains for arts (music, painting, literature.....) which is not necessary to survive, so brain size would be more to outcompete male rivals than to interact with others......do we have to see this as two contradictionary theories??? Thanks in advance for clarification!

At around 43 minutes, he explains that clinical depression is the gap between a person's competence and their self assessment. But then he gives an example of someone whose life is so messed up that they may feel bad but they're not depressed, because their self assessment is correct. But the dismissive way in which he talked about these people has me wondering, is there no hope at all for someone who does not meet any of the marks on the social checklist described?

among our motivations is the motivation to understand motivation, it's very circular and maddening to think about and I think it's the reason we voluntarily subject ourselves to the possession of spirits in the form of drama, to see the same world with another person's goal in mind, and extract something true about the nature of goals and minds. Isn't it only in that theater-audience dynamic that symbols can begin to exist, when there is a group and a common goal of understanding goals? The other piece of this puzzle is how fun it is to do this even when the material is not about happy stuff happening all the time. I just read "Medea" by Euripedes and it's nothing but the turning over of untenable situations and the comprehension of a deep wrongness with society that someone like Medea--strong and loyal, an ideal mother--could end up murdering her babes and shattering her sanity in the process. It wasn't a happy read, but it was FUN, because it allowed me to SEE. I couldn't turn away.

Not to be against Jordan's point, but I think there could be a lot to learn from ants if we could speak to them. "Like what's the smallest thing they can see?" "Can you draw it to compare it to ours?" They see life from a whole different perspective.

very good I love these so far, however Bilbo being hired as a "thief" isn't what you think of a thief as. It was more a sneaky individual, they hired him because Smaug would not be able to recognize his scent because he never encountered Hobbits before but yeah the thief isn't a robber in the current use of the word, it CAN be but they weren't always recognized as criminals. In many societies in Europe thieves weren't considered bad people

Great lecture. I am getting so much from what you share. Just one point, It disheartens me when I hear people talk about carbs and sugar as being the cause of our dietry ills without any distinction being made between complex and simple sugars. Broccoli is a carb. Apple is a carb. It is high consumption of animal fat and animal products mixed with high sodium and high fructose corn syrups in combination that makes us unwell. However, we are attracted to salt, sugar and fat, but if it unprocessed, respectively, like celery, pineapple and avocado, it is less challenging....btw Dr. Richard Saplosky proved that heirachy is cultural, within one baboon troupe he observed anyway. Or it proves we have to kill off all the dominant men?

Saturn, Venus, Mars- God, Mary, Christ... the symbolism predates Christianity's 'trinity' and goes back to earliest known ancient records. This planetary alignment would also produce cross and other symbolism that is littered all through ancient times (including plasma discharges etc or 'dragons' in the sky). So, it has been suggested that maybe Saturn as a brown dwarf was our original 'sun' (god) with Venus (godess) and Mars (warrior) in the front closest to Earth. Planetary instability causing havoc and rise to the myths and legends by the survivors of the catastrophic event and rise of the obsession with sky watching etc which morphed into the religions eventually. Instability then resulting in a new alignment of planets and capture by a new star (our sun we have today), which explains the 'odd' placement of large planets in current location that keeps confusing scientists, the scaring/'stripping' of Mars, the 'new' and/or unexplained rings of Saturn (with current theories anyway) and the apparent knowledge in ancient past of these planets as though they could somehow see them better than we can without telescopes etc. Anyways, interesting theories that answer many questions but then opens a whole other can of worms lol. I do however think there is merit to the ideas, not just to answer questions about our planets but to give answers to the origin of the first myths and archetypes that eventually became a deep psychological issue, a cause of anxiety and dread for human beings and therefore influence society that otherwise seem completely illogical without an origin. 'Cause and effect" as is said. Or, I can just buy the idea that it all stems back to ancient imagination and a global delusion :P. Who knows, I wasn't there! lol

I love all content Jordan has put on youtube, also his passion for his work, but I have only one objection, where he says that there isn't something like emotional intelligence. If I have undetstood it wrong than I apologize myself I would like someone to put more light on it what he means by that. I recommend people watching content of Dr. Joe Dispenza and others similar to him. But Dr. Joe Dispenza is something like Dr. Peterson man more down on earth. Have a nice day people. 👋

If you look further into the claim of "emotional intelligence" you will find that regular intelligence... (IQ)... eats up all the variance. In other words.... people with high IQ.... also have high "emotional intelligence". Therfore emotional intelligence is just a made up construct people try to put forth because they don't like the idea of only one intelligence, even though the scientific literature says otherwise.

Jesus said something i never did understand, but Professor Jordan has opened my eyes to what it could mean . Jesus made a statement to the religious leaders opposing him saying "I have come in my fathers name and you would not believe me , another will come in his own name him you will believe " who is this person who will come ? Jesus came representing age old wisdom " THE FATHER " ...the other one would come representing his own gray matter, his own wisdom that would be divorced from the wisdom of acquired truth through the ages in particular religious wisdom ...I think Karl Marx and his followers represent this thinking very well , reducing it and comparing it to mind altering drugs.. Opium ..such pride .

That is a matter for one's personal conscience and is debatable and probably not fixed over time and so is cultural. the nature /nurture thing. Nature is "red in tooth and claw" and that part of us is tempered by cultural factors ,so who's to say what is best for us and is the way forward? MGTOW just seems like a reaction of disillusioned males to "not getting layed" ..therfore they must feel alienated from society in some way...and have formed a subculture called MGTOW to gain a scence of collective identity and relevance?
