Great review Alex, I agree the tempo and information is solid. You can lower the arm rest down when the parking break is also down and it puts your arm at a really good angle to use the mini infotainment controller. It's much more ideal than the standard angle it typically rests in. Just a thought.

Very good review. The system is perfect it has everything you need!!! also I love this Car.

The armrest is adjustable. All you need do is lower the parking brake and wala...not difficult in getting to the center module at all. Goes to show that not everyone knows what they're doing. Besides, no one drives with the armrest up that high, except maybe my 74 year old mother!

Alex, great job as always. In case you're not aware, the armrest will tilt down 20 or 30 degrees (from its normal, more horizontal position) to a point where access to the Idrive controller is much better. However, the parking brake must be released to accomplish this. One of the few weak points of this car's interior.

Alex on Autos In my limited test drives (at a MINI test drive event here in Toronto), I found it a bit more convenient in the tilt-down position (at least temporarily), but agree that I wouldn't leave it in that down position for the rest of my driving time.

Dear Alex I have something to say and when you say that centralrest gets into the way of the gear lever that is because you didn't press the realizer properly it should go down all the way Thanks😉

I now know how to work the centre screen apps. Thanks. Most operations are not shown in the handbook and tell you to go to the onboard display which, if you don't know how to do things, makes it a bit hard to follow.

I notice there are two sizes of screen, 6.6 inch and 8.8 inch. Does the split screen work for both sizes of screens, or just the bigger screen? I want to know before I get one...

Raymond Wong the split screen gesture only works with the 8.8 screen :) just got my 2018 JCW Convertible. It’s amazing

+Alicia Soto Nope, but hang on a little longer.. 2017 Countryman is going to have these updates in it, along with a whole bunch of really cool stuff. I sale MINIs in Dallas Texas if you are nearby, but if not.. talk to your MINI dealer.. They should be coming out in August 2016

I use Waze on my phone for navigation because it lets me choose the fastest route based on current traffic. Is the car's navigation connected to the internet and more importantly, does it let you choose your route based on current traffic conditions like Waze does? Thanks.

Joe Goodman The smaller 6.6 sat nav just uses over the radio TP info the larger screen version shown here uses internet for traffic info from what the dealer advised me.

How do you do a software update? I have downloaded the update file onto a USB drive, I plug it it...but then nothing. Can only find how to update with newer models of Minis, but need for 2015. F55 model.

no, on the center armrests that have the connection built in for the phone it is a ventilated grille to allow airflow into the armrest so your phone does not overheat and catch fire and blow up your armrest (or worse, your arm!). My 2016 Mini does not have any USB connection inside the center armrest and while those perforations are still visible on the outside of the armrest, they do not go all the way through to the inside.

The armrest is adjustable you should know that !

Does the iPhone support Messages?

I really like the BMW centre control system. Very easy to use. If your a common FAT American, you will definitely struggle with the centre control.

And I thought I was the only one who played Jennifer Rush in my car!!!

Seems very complicated in comparison to other infotainment systems

Why don't mini lose that round info/tachometer crap , it takes a lot of space on the dashboard , i'm pretty sure the reason it was place there in the original mini was because they didn't have enough room over the steering wheel , but now the mini is pretty big so why don't they change that ?

Unfortunately this video didn't help me at all. It assumed that I've had a computer in my car before. I need to be shown from A to Z. I can't even make a phone call. And I can't find a beginner's video to explain it to me.
