the song of the year daesang was always about popularity, not quality and that's a sad thing but it is common now in award shows. No matter how good or meaningful the song is, it will always be defeated by songs that are popular and trendsetters. Gangnam style won SOTY not because it was meaningful, but because it was a trend worldwide. EXO's growl also became popular in Korea which sparked exo's popularity. Taeyang's eyes, nose, lips became popular in korea too due to how the song is about teayang and hyorin who are top celebrities in korea. Even Michael Bublé from the US sang an english version of it. BigBang's bang bang bang wasn't that meaningful of a song either, it was a dance trend back then and also especially it came from one of the top groups of the second generation. Twice's cheer up, signal, and what is love were also trendsetters in korea and japan creating a hallyu wave which earned twice the nickname of nations girl group (of the 3rd gen) and they were awarded with a hallyu culture award from the south korean government itself alongside BTS. BTS's Boy with Luv was so popular in 2019 also considering the fact that it was a collab with a western artist that's why it was chosen as SOTY. And lastly Dynamite, we know how popular Dynamite is, it even got nominated for a grammy, ofc it would win song of the year even if the other nominees have good quality and meaning to their songs

@@bruhbreh7360 nope, its because they have a huge fandom 😂 y'all say dymamite was big but ppl who dont listen to kpop haven't even heard the song except for y'all armys. Even if dynamite is the fastest mv to reach 1B, it still doesn't take away the fact that its because of MASS STREAMING and not views from the GENERAL PUBLIC (people that are not armys, belong to another fandom, or people that don't listen to kpop at all). Hell, baby shark literally has more General Public Streams than BTS 😂 especially gangnam style, EVERYONE knew it, kpop stan or not and obviously let's not forget the fact that the entire song is in korean 😂 but your faves are trying hard to release english singles because they know western award shows are more into english songs than foreign ones. Y'all be saying that bts dont need western recognition, but then y'all be mad when they lose awards in the west. bts songs are popular bcuz they have a hug fandom PERIOD. western artists that have smaller fandoms than bts but reached 1B are the true popular music. Dynamite is literally in english but it doesn't have the impact that gangnam style (korean), despacito (spanish), and baby shark (children song) has on the general public.

One of my favourite songs of all times. Just stunning. I know a lot of people think the crowd singing along ruins it, but that just shows how love this song was, and is! It's timeless

The people name @daedalus in the first comment is know nothing about kpop but supporting girl groups just bcs his idols doesnt win he say Daesang is about popularity which is seem doesnt make sense. I mean how can you win something if you not popular right? And one more thing how can some of the kpop idols can be popular without a hardwork right?
