    Sooo cool! I've daydreamed about living in a van and traveling around. But getting a souped up 4x4 could be so much more adventurous in the places you could go.

    I looked at the ARB brand drawers just to see what they cost, and O.M.G!!! $1,000.00 plus. That's freakin' ridiculous for two drawers made out of plywood. I'm going to build my own too. Thanks for the idea.

    Great Rig and awesome couple Brandon and miss D.... What a great walk around and rig. Brandon your build is awesome because it's not off the shelf! It's what you did with your hands that make it great. Don't worry it will evolve as time go's on!!! Look forward to a meetup again in the future. Be Cool.. Great Video Michael and Corrie, WOW

    Its cool he built everything himself and has the knowledge and time to do so but having an off-the-shelf solution isn't a bad thing. I tend to leave it to the real professionals when it comes to major modifications/features and there is nothing wrong with that. Im a software engineer and I wouldn't expect a normal joe to write DIY beginner code for major software/web development applications that were getting released for the general public. I pick my battles when custom building stuff for my rig but leave the big stuff to the pros. But hey, I am just a guy with another opinion..haha amazing build nonetheless

    Absolutely "off-the-shelf solution" is not bad. But! Building an expedition rig for two specific people to share and live out of for three months has nuances that can possibly be easier to include when DIY, and "Broke but rich overland" don't have endless funds for a custom fabrication shop building a rig. The off the shelf solutions for sleeping in a Rubicon? I also have built a custom storage and sleeping platform in my 2010 FJ because there just is not anyone out there making one. I also have to agree with Brandon's type and style of build because if anything brakes he knows how to fix it. I wish I had the funds to send the FJ to Sportsmobile with a blank check and say build the best living area you can in it!!!! maybe someday.

    Seems like you could cut a little weight and provide a much better sleeping experience by getting something like an iKamper RTT and toss out the heavy mattress and additional 2 person tent you're lugging around. Outstanding setup though and a trip I'd love to make some time.

    Michael: "It has gone where all the Defenders have gone" Excuse me? As much as I love Defenders, who defined them as more capable off-road as a stock Jeep? Brandon, since when do have AT's thicker sidewalls than MT's? That would be new to me. All in all, thanks to Michael and Corrie for this video and all the best and lots of fun for Brandon on his way up north.

    Hey, Mauiman52! I actually meant "where the Defender we were WITH went". With exceptionally low gearing, that thing was a billy goat, though I'm not interested in a pissing contest about which vehicle is better. I don't engage in those conversations. You can probably imagine why. Ya, sidewalls.

    Hi Michael, thanks for the clarification. I knew you did not want to get in between the lines starting such a discussion. And I love your 70 Series LC too. I am always just curious to see how each owner worked around the pros and cons of their vehicle depending on what is important to them. Thanks again.

    I must be wrong but I remember reading somewhere that bfg's all terrains had a 10ply rating and in turn have a tougher sidewall than their mud terrains

  • @corriem2546

    @corriem2546

    You can probably chalk up the 110 comment to my husband's on going love affair with the Defenders. I knew what he meant, but I have insider context. :) And the AT's have a 20% thicker sidewall per the BFG site.

    Looking for a decent roof rack/basket for my 4WD Suburban...may resort to designing one and let my welder buddy do his thing. Not too many options available for large SUV's. Gobi doesn't support the Suburban, but they're ridiculously priced anyway, at least for me. I can see a Gobi easily costing more than $2k for a large SUV.

    Why does EVERYONE put the stove on the left side? It seems like it would be better to have it on the right, next to the tailgate, so that you can open have it open and cooking, but still retain full access to your other drawer. I've asked several different people this question, but no one has responded. Is everyone just copying everyone else without considering how to redesign the rig?

    You really can't beat KO2s for longevity. They clog up a lot in wet mud, the KMs are of course better here, but otherwise the KO2 is a very tough tyre.
