2015 Civil War Training Video

Several of our team (mostly NCOs) gathered as the 1st Virginia Infantry to film this footage which will become part of our Civil War training video. The footage shown here has not yet been edited other than for time. The project is still in production and the final version will include captions, descriptions and narration.
In Civil War reenacting, historic drill of the era is re-interpreted and applied in order to provide a high level of safety while maintaining an authentic look and feel. This footage is representative of how we do this in the 1st Virginia/1st Minnesota. The methods we use are common (though not universal) to the ANV. If you are not a member of our team and happen to be viewing this then you would be wise to consult with leaders of the unit you are part of so you may conform to their interpretations which may or may not be identical.
There was diversity even in the periof of 1861-1865 as several different drill manuals were used during the Civil War and it is also well know that commanders often made adaptations in "real life" situations.

Thank you for sharing this. I served in the Army and am amused by how few youngsters or even senior reenactors can march in step! I see the effort but they just miss it!

I haven't been in Civil War Reenacting since 1994. I am really considering getting my old unit back together here in Central Louisiana. Co. D Catahoula Guerrillas, Wheat's Special Battalion (Later La. 19th infantry).

That was neat to see thank you for showing it :). I especially think it is neat that everyone is wearing some type of shell jacket which is kind of rare to see honestly. I could also learn to practice this yself because I plan on joining Re-enacting!
