    I guess a lot of people these days don't get the appeal of a sleeper; the Chevy SS is exactly that. Sometimes, you DON'T want to attract attention, especially from law enforcement, if you're gonna be engaging in any type of automotive shenanigans. Or even better, surprising that BMW driver when jumping off the line at the stoplight in what LOOKS a Malibu is even more satisfying! A powerhouse in an unassuming package? Sign me up!

    If the BMW says M this certainly won't surprise it. Infact it would struggle to surprise anything past a mid level engined one. As for understated are you really trying to say this looks more understated than most BMW's? Come on - it looks like a crapiece with a bodykit glued on.

    hung huge The SS does 12.9 @ 111, which is certainly faster than most BMWs, and that includes some of the M-badged ones. And if you think the SS doesn't look understated, that only means you don't know what the word "understated" means. And yes an M3, a current one at least, would be faster than the SS but it's also a LOT more expensive. The SS doesn't have any options, it's fully loaded at base MSRP of $45k. You know what a fully loaded M3 costs? I'll give you a hint, it's over $80k.

  • @vernonprice5986

    hung huge Yes... the Chevy SS has none of those things you mentioned which is why it's understated. People are willing to pay for BMWs because they're idiots. Because they believe in BMW's PR. Because they think BMW makes "ultimate driving machines". Luckily reality and facts are not subject to BMW fanboys' opinions. And yes, you can't use bang for the buck EVER when you're talking about BMWs, because there is no bang for the buck with BMWs. You pay out the ass for BMWs and they get beaten by cheaper cars. And by the way, ask your BMW fanboy friends about the M5. Do they think a V8 makes it great? Of course they do. How about the last gen M3? Did the V8 make it great? Or course it did. So what was that about thinking a V8 makes a car great?

    Vernon Price You are a true end aren't you?The bodykit and wheels are in their own advertising. Can you read? Then you say all BMW owners are idiots because they didn't buy a cheaper, crappier car? You're speaking like a kid who only knows what he's played on gran turismo. Or an inbred hick who will never be able to afford anything with any quality to it. Even your parents hate you. Noone would call their kid vernon if they liked them.

    Yep...these guys didn't have clue number one about that "little" issue. It is, in fact, a "VF" Holden Commodore, designed and built in Australia and modified to LHD for the American market. In Australia it comes in many model designations and different levels of trim. The base model has a 3L V6, the mid tiers are 3.6L V6 and then you have the V8s. ALL of the cars are exceptionally well made with excellent trim quality. The base model even has automatic parking.

    Figured the results would be as they were. Chevy is probably a little faster around a real track but since this one is small and has such short areas for acceleration, the larger and heavier chevy would be at a slight disadvantage. Once it has a chance to open the engine, or keep speed through wider sweeping bends, the results would probably be different. Nice comparison though.

  • @visionariable

    @visionariable

    9 жыл бұрын

    Vernon Price Q50 is affected by the sea level as well. As I said, excuses. Both aren't that different in performance, but the SS has that 6.2 liter, and still would probably get beaten by the Q50. Don't underestimate this car. If a Charger RT can lose to this, than the SS has no problem.

  • @vernonprice5986

    @vernonprice5986

    9 жыл бұрын

    ***** That's nice. The SS beat the Q50 in at least two drag races, so what's your answer for that? And we already know the SS is faster because we have actual drag strip results, as opposed to these clowns and their inability to launch a car. And there's no need to underestimate the Q50 we already know it's slower. That's a proven fact, not an opinion. And a Charger RT is A) much heavier than a Chevy SS and B) has much less HP than a Chevy SS. Why do I have to explain that to you?

  • @visionariable

    @visionariable

    9 жыл бұрын

    Vernon Price The S5 is a lighter car. Simple as that. Both do the same 0-60, but the Q50 puts its power down more efficiently than the SS. The SS may have a bigger motor, but that doesn't mean anything. It has all that power, but still loses to most cars in its class? It's a proven fact that the Q50 is a quick car. You're just underestimating it as you favor American cars.

    Clearly, the SS needs the LT1 with an LT4 option with 8-speed autos and 7-speed manuals, to go after the Charger Hellcat (even though it still falls short of peak HP). Also, copy Ford and give it an aluminum body. Not only will that reduce overall weight to increase performance and handling, it reduces weight at the top, lowering the center of gravity.

  • @defrev

    @defrev

    MrChevypower Actually, it just needs a Whipple 2.9L supercharger, and perhaps a Livernois-type performance/racing clutch. There's also a speed shifter (gearshift) made in Australia for the manual transmission variant called the Ripshift that's supposed to be pretty good. It's probably also advisable to go with larger breaks and wider tires at that point. You do the above, and you've got a monster sleeper.

    So ON the actual video they say the Q50S is not even as big as a 3-series or C-class. More like an ATS(similar in size to the 3-series). Why would they compare it to a Chevy SS, which is a full-sized car?

    The Q50 is larger than the A4, 3-Series, IS, and ATS. SS is probably more similar. Maybe because the car is lower to the ground and has a wider stance.

    Why on earth would you jump on the brakes after completing your lap, and then proceed to maneuver the car around to drive to the finish line? Just finish the lap, the funny thing about circuits is that you'll come around the finish line again.

    Quentin Freeman Me too, but I like how it increases fuel economy and straight line performance. I used to have a 2009 Altima 2.5S back in high school and most of my buddies had I4 Camry/Accord/Malibu/Fusion and I am not exaggerating at all when I say that in straight line I used to smoke them all every single time. Off the line it'd be a tie but as soon as they shift to second gear they would fall behind at a fast pace.

    wonder if Chevy meant to design a' sleeper' cause the styling of the SS just doesn't match its capabilities. I'd like to see GM design something that is a better match for the more expensive rivals. Hopefully it will sell well and GM will improve on the styling of the next generation.

  • @gedaman

    LOL, you know that the SS is simply a rebadged Holden Commodore, right? The Australians love cars like this with wolf in sheeps clothing styling and a big American V8 under the hood. Unfortunately the Chevrolet SS isn't selling very well. It's going out of production as soon as GM shuts down all of their Australian manufacturing just as Ford is doing over there as well.
