2014 GMC Sierra - Silverado 1500 engine belts replacement. AC comp, vacuum pump and serpentine.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I'm replacing the serpentine, AC compressor and vacuum pump belts. GMC recommends replace them each 100k miles. My truck has 140K and the AC compressor belt already failed although I learned later it was due to seized compressor. Anyway, this and easy and inexpensive maintenance I will not miss again.

    Great video! Thanks for posting this. Was able to get all 3 belts replaced on my dad's 15 Sierra using some of the tips you showed here. For anyone wondering, you can do the vacuum pump belt from the topside too. You have to put the belt over the pump and get the zip tie on pretty much by feel, but it's not to hard to do. I had all 3 belts replaced in about 45 mins, and I had never done a stretch belt before. The old belts looked pretty good still even though they were 10 years old. He got quoted a crazy number by the stealership to do this. For anyone nervous about the stretch belts, don't be. Follow the steps in this video, and you'll have no issue.

    My truck (2014 GMC Sierra 1500) has 139K miles and the belts have never been changed. Been thinking about tackling them within the next couple weeks, and this video helps A LOT. I just had to change the thermostat last week, so I might also tackle the water pump, alternator, and coolant temperature sensor while I'm there. Thank you for the great video!

    Great video, with great views from top and bottom! Liked the rope derailer technique. Appreciate that you used correct terminology as well (unlike those that call the "A/C belt" a "serpentine belt". It is not a serpentine; it is just a belt.). Adding tensioner, water pump, and alternator changes would have been nice to show, since belts were off already. Thanks for stating all of your tools also (3" extension, 1/2" ratchet, 24 mm socket)!

    @@BUTTEWORKS ended up taking it to a local shop and the chirping sound that I thought for sure would be a pulley ended up being a lifter problem. The shop recommended a new engine for $14,000. So I picked the truck up with three new belts installed and brought it to my work to let a couple of friends look at it and sure enough when you remove the oil filler cap the chirping gets louder proving that it’s something internally. Any thoughts? Thanks again

    Did changing the ac compressor belt cause your ac to seize? Or was it already seized? Don’t want to change if it seized due to new belt. Thanks

  • @BUTTEWORKS

    @BUTTEWORKS

    Жыл бұрын

    It was already seized. I thought the belt broke and change it to later find out it broke because the compressor was seized. Should have thought about that when I first saw melted rubber on the pulley.

    I read that counterclockwise you loosen. I'm pretty sure that bolt is super tight so your could turn the engine counterclockwise, but I prefer not to try. Also, it is easier, at least for me, to crank it clockwise while doing the job.

  • @BUTTEWORKS

    No but the AC broke off because the compressor seized so since I had to change that one, for 50 USD I better replace the other two, since they were 9 years old, 150K miles. Manual say replace every 100K.

    The engine rotates counterclockwise if you look from the front so I was tightening the nut. However, that nut is so tight that you could turn the engine in the opposite direction and not get it loose.
