My family had a 2014 Mustang Coupe 6Mt with this engine from new until about a year ago. It was the car I learned to drive stick on, it was the car I drove back and forth to high school in grade 12, the car that I learned to do a stereo swap on, and it was the car that ferried our family of four on weekend drives comfortably for most of the time we spent with it. Unfortunately, it started to age. The car had been dead reliable its entire life. That didn’t stop the Southwestern Ontario road salt from oxidizing the entire underbody. Not to mention, we hadn’t be able to use it as a family car since before COVID because my brother and I had outgrown the back seat. We replaced the Mustang with the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek 6Mt shown in my profile photo. Although it has less than half the horsepower of the Mustang, I enjoy it more. I get double the gas mileage, I get features that the Mustang, even with the Apple CarPlay head unit, could never have, and I get a fresh start with a car that doesn’t have rust coated onto the chassis. The Mustang was my dad’s early midlife crisis car and it was blast to own, drive, and maintain. I still think about it sometimes, but then I go and rip the Crosstrek remembering that I prefer driving at ten tenths all the time and that I don’t have to worry about curbs. Slow car fast > Fast car slow.

I drove the next gen with this same engine and six speed auto, coupe though (2015). Bought November 2014, traded in August 2023, 42K miles. The engine was just about perfect. I only ever used the "S" transmission mode and I initiated every single upshift and downshift myself with the paddles, never let the transmission do a single one. It worked great. I did get every recall issue -- couldn't close the door, brake lights stuck on, rear camera out, and hood latch wouldn't latch. Also had the AC die about halfway through and thought I'd have to spend $2400 but one of those $50 AC refill cans fixed it and plugged the leak and it worked great for the rest of my time.

It’s not a bad car by any means. It becomes one when you flex it and call out other people on instagram as if you have the V8.

I really wouldn't mind the V6. My friend had a late 80's Mustang convertible with a 4 cylinder. With 4 of us in there, it was like 0-60 in 3 days

The 3.7 is a great engine. It pumps out 310 ponies on 93 with some simple upgrades such as a mild tune better induction a one-piece driveshaft and more rear gear, and better mufflers it can be quite the performer. I have a 2012 has 158K on it with no major issues. Really an affordable everyday driver that can surprise some people.

my friends got a black-on-white auto v6 Premium coupe from the same year, and i think your overall sentiment sums it up. for people who are looking for a more dailyable yet still sporty approach to things, the (modern) V6 mustang will do just fine. hell, the 3.7 literally makes like as much power as the previous 3v from the s197 😭 too many people complain about the v6 muscle cars but in all honesty, they do just fine for 95% of things.

I had one as a rental for a week or so. It was a pleasant daily driver but would still scoot if you stomped on the gas pedal. Would it win any races? Absolutely not, but it was nice for what it was.

The rental car upgrade. But like you said, it's a great cruiser, though a bit noisy because of the soft top. A friend has a 2015 V6 auto convertible. The V6 pulls. 300hp in a smallish car is no slouch.

The best part about this engine is that unlike the transverse mounted 3.5 version in the explorer/taurus/flex this one DOESNT have a timing chain driven water pump that cost $3-4k to replace.

My 2014 v6 has 84k miles on it (green one in my photo) and I have a question. First it’s got a Spectre CAI, Borla exhaust, 80mm throttle body. I always have put 87 octane is it safe to put 93 octane on the factory tune? Will I notice any difference between the 87 and 93?

People really dismissed how massively better the V6 was in the latter part of this generation. I have a 2015 Ecoboost Performance Pack and enjoy it being a good daily driver, although the S550 has much better handling than this gen did.

That Mustang does 0-60 in 5.8. That's faster than the vast majority of muscle cars of the 1960s and 1970s. As you wisely point out, the V6 convertible is a sporty cruiser, not a race car. I have to shake my head at people who think 0 to 60 in under 7 seconds is too slow. I find that I want a car that does 0 to 60 in under 9 seconds, so I have the power to turn left without crapping my pants when oncoming cars have the right of way. Anything faster than 0 to 60 in 7 seconds seems unnecessary. Fun, but unnecessary

Lovely, it's actually so much more interesting than any Shelby version. But I have a take on this gen: It aged poorly. Granted, it's on of the last model years, but this car looks a lot older than 2014 and was really desperate to be replaced. Not that it does not look good, it totally does, especially with the retro like interior, but it just looks old
