2014 Chevrolet Corvette: 48 Hours with the C7 in Detroit

Follow us as we travel to Michigan for 48 hours with the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. We drive the new C7 on the track at GM's proving grounds, do instrumented track testing including 0-60 and the quarter mile, put it on a lift for a suspension walk-around and explore the wilds of Detroit during a photo shoot. Oh, and the requisite burn out.

    if I saw nothing else in this video i'm 100% satisfied with what happened at 10:34 such history, old meets new it was a great moment and rings true to what GM is this is our flagship this is america in all of it's glory it's time for a come back in not just the car scene in the U.S. but in the world...

    I love the part where he mentioned how the car handles poorly paved roads and potholes etc... Most people who consider buying this car are really gonna be using it more to drive on the streets rather than go to the racetracks on a daily basis, so thank you for pointing out such helpful info Edmunds!

    Anyone knows the name of first track...? please! Great handling, ever great engine even better: I really do hope nobody will complain about 2 valves/cyl again, this an astonishingly well engineered engine, it really does everything perfect, while sounding terrific. Always loved the Corvette, and I was skeptical about the new body, but it grew on me quickly. The C6 was great too, so that I was afraid they'd become lazy and build a C6.5... Luckily they made a big step in technology and body design. Amazing car!

    The Viper is a $102,485 piece of crap, to put it politely. The only thing a viper is good for is turning tires into smoke. The 'Vette can do that, and a whole lot more, for half the price.

  • @DIOSpeedDemon

    @DIOSpeedDemon

    jreyman The Viper is 650 Brutal horsepower and that's on an off day. The Corvette is a gentlemans sports car with some power. I want all out traffic crushing power, If I wanted to look good and go slow, I would buy a vette. You cannot beat a 1966 427 vette with any current vette. You sir have not a clue. \

  • @177SCmaro

    @177SCmaro

    10 жыл бұрын

    DIOSpeedDemon If it's power you want, for the price difference, I don't think it'd be too difficult to get 650HP out of a new Corvette. The Viper is known to be quite a bit on the crude side as far as handling and all that, but hey, if it's want you want go for it. And as much as I too love the old Corvettes, the new one's would absolutely eat the old '66 for breakfast in virtually every measurable aspect of performance. 48 years is a long time...

  • @jreyman

    @jreyman

    Viper still can't keep it's ass behind it's nose, a problem inherent in the car since day one. There's no point in having even a modest 325HP, let alone 650HP, if the car can't even do anything but make donuts and tire smoke. Also, there's nothing slow about the C7.

    I cant wait to see what its going to do side by side with other cars in its class. I havnt been able to find any videos of it actually racing yet. I just hope they don't over do it with the technology in the future. One thing I've always loved about it was the fact that it never has as much as the cars it competed with. It took more skill to control than exotic cars. I've driven a supercharged C5 and they're brutal.

    I was at a track day a few weeks ago & 2 C6R guys were saying that there will be 4 models, this is the base. The rumors are 700hp for the ZR1's replacement, but it could be a few years off. They doubted it would be called ZR1. My '12 makes almost 750 at the crank now. A better diff & suspension should really make the new one incredible. If you haven't tried a GM or a Ferrari with MRC, you should. You can adjust the car from cushy to rock solid. The new MRC system is even more sophisticated.

    Yeah, I should have been more specific.. and said "on a *short* track" That 5th gen suspension is badass, agree with you there. Love the dual ball joint setup. There's something to be said about the third's much lower weight and CG though imo. As far as trans, the T5 is easy to shift and works fine for me on the track.

    I guarantee 85-90% of the people who posted negative comments about the corvette and compared it to more expensive cars lack the resources to purchase one. Chevy's aim is to give the consumers a fairly high performance car at a relatively affordable price. There aren't many other on the market with 400+ HP that start at 51,000.

    That is true about the power but that disadvantage diminishes as the track gets smaller. 5th gen susp. is certainly phenomenal, no argument there. The suspension on the thirdgen is virtually the same as the current generation mustang - macpherson strut and panhard rear axle. Not a bad config, and the geometry is good or easily corrected. That stang is also quite a bit heavier. I have a 91 z28 track prepped w/stock eng.. On short track TA events I'm not beaten by much. 1 new GTR last time.

    The base corvette has much more potential to get a safe fast car than lower grade cars. In lots of countries including mine, making a modified car road legal (and be legally insured for it, as is) is very difficult and costs often more than the price of the mods you do, by taking a car like the corvette you'd get warranty and insurance for that price, which you wouldn't get with Crawford Performance's car, or any car that doesn't fit the manufacturer's original specs as well.

    The thing i like about dodge and chevy is that, when the c5 was made (around the same time dodge vipers existed) is that they broke away from the straight line tradition and muscle car type, to bieng awesome sports cars/ and few models supercars. And they are just going to keep getting better at it showing that the srt vipers and c6 zr1/z07p hold top place track records against exotic supercars. Ide take a corvette over about any other car, and i am siked for the other model they will have.

    It depends on the region.... A Camaro SS in the UK starts out at roughly 53k USD vs here it stats at 33K USD. However higher end cars such as Lamborghini's and Ferrari's have very little price fluxuation because they are such high end cars that is often pre factored into the cars them selves. They wouldn't have as much business if they were selling a $400k car and bumped the price 35% if you wanted one in America.
