2013 NWSL Championship Highlights: WNYF vs. PTFC

Спорт

Tobin Heath scored a sensational 25-yard, first-half strike before Christine Sinclair added a goal of her own in second-half stoppage time as Portland Thorns FC survived the final 34 minutes with 10 players to claim the inaugural National Women's Soccer League Championship with a 1-0 victory over the Western New York Flash Saturday night in front of 9,129 fans at Sahlen's Stadium.

    What an exciting match. Both sides played so very well. I love the NWS team, every player. Still, watching a match in Portland is special, its fans get futbol. So, I was happy with Tobin's goal. And Alex to Christine...classic. Thanks to Fox Soccer for telecasting the match! Hope next year, the whole season is covered.

    Williamson was fouling up a storm on Wambach. The highlight reel isn't showing all the founds she committed. Yes the 2nd yellow card was influenced by Abby, but what the highlights fail to show is Williamson taking Abby out at the knees in the box during the previous Flash possession. Williamson deserved her 2nd yellow card or even a straight up red at that point. I can't believe some folks believe this match absolves Canada from their high jinx during the Olympics.

    I've always liked Leblanc, but up until this year, in international play she (as mentioned) cannot kick near as far as most keepers, which limits her, and she's been inconsistent as far as aggressively controlling the 6 yard box. Erin McLeod has been a more athletic, aggressive keeper, as was groomed to replace KK, as she ages. Granted KK had likely her best season this year, in any of the professional leagues she has played in...she also has a great defensive line in front of year.

    By my observation, she cannot place the ball deep into the other half to set up counter attacks as many other GKs can consistently do. Hope Solo is the best in that part of a GK's game. In every other aspect, Leblanc is better than the starting Canadian GK.

  • @jnwest9921
    @jnwest992110 жыл бұрын

    Wouldn't have happen if she wasn't holding on to the ball for 15-20 seconds at a time. Canadian GK only has herself to blame for that at the Olympics, after being warned. Its gamesmanship to hold on the ball when ahead, and gamesmanship to point it out to the ref. It's a two way street.

  • @cantrememberchit
    @cantrememberchit10 жыл бұрын

    I would almost agree with you except that she does only 1 thing - the Flop 'n Whine. I don't think she can really run anymore and it seems like any time she has to fight for something she flops instead. Actually, she can run a little bit - right to the ref to do her crying.

    I can understand the 1st yellow card... But the yellow/red card nope... to me it looks like Abby got around Williamson and then because of how close she was to Abby it looked like Williamson tripped over Abby's feet and fell and it also caused Abby to fall...I mean look at how close they were when Abby got in front of her, they were pretty much touching..

  • @vnessie1
    @vnessie110 жыл бұрын

    How do you think the US got the free kick against Canada in the semis of the Olympics? She was standing behind the ref counting off the seconds when McLeod had the ball. LOL

  • @sbryen
    @sbryen10 жыл бұрын

    As opposed to Wambach's "gamesmanship" of acting like she's been shot every time anyone comes near her "near the penalty area"...have no idea why refs are influenced by her acting & whining. A case in the Olympic game too...Abby's yelling influencing the ref to call a keeper infraction virtually NEVER called in international play. And your clock must be incredibly fast if you thought that was 20 seconds. But given this video is about the NSWL championship, I'd say the better team won.

    Abby's character is fine. Portland defender got away with 2 obvious red cards previously. She does not bad mouth other players, bad mouth other teams when she loses or attempts to hurt other players. I can't say that about some other top female players. As far as influencing the refs go, all players attempt to do so. Some people are being honest or watch enough soccer.
