Ya, what happen is your LCD broke. Most likely the back light. So even though your Digitizer is fine (the glass piece) you'll still have to get a new screen and replace it. I havent found any reliable screens to purchase yet. But i will post them in the video description as soon as i have.

They wont fit. But... Ive been told the 2013 tablet has a QI charger, which is wireless. I put a link in the video description for one of those. And that should fix your problem. Its only like 25 bucks. (Double check to make sure it fits your tablet though. I havent done a whole lot of research on it.)

Thank you for the easy breakdown of the N7. I had bought one that I immediately dropped and broke the screen and digitizer, nearly $150 to fix. I bought a second one to replace it since i needed it ASAP. That one lasted just past warranty before it bricked. I used this video to try reseating everything, but it was still bricked. Then it dawned on me to just swap the internals on the two N7. Good guts of the broken screen into the N7 with the good screen and bad guts. Then reversed the process. Now I've got a working N7 and a bricked N7 with a broken screen. No loss there, it was a sunk cost anyway. Thanks again!

I just wanted to thank you for this video. My girlfriend's mom has a Nexus 7 (2013), that she'll have had for 3 years this Christmas. It recently went out on her because of a broken charging port and the battery would no longer hold a charge. After ordering replacement parts for only $40, we successfully replaced said parts and its back working 100%. You made what seemed like an impossible task super simple. We were able to save literally $300-400 by not having to get her a new tablet this Christmas. So a thousand times, Thank You!

Thank you. this was useful as it showed the way in. For anyone still having probs getting in, or cracking screens, the important thing is not to create stress concentration, eg by twisting a screwdriver. I found that a 3 inch wide paint scraper was ideal for initial opening of the gap, and then applying a light torque. (my fingernails not up to it). Once you've got a narrow crack, work round with the paint scraper, then use finger force to pull open. On the down side, getting it completely shut again was a struggle. And I still need to source a battery, charging port.....

This is NOT easy. Once you get once seam open (assuming you can fit the tool into that microscopic crack in the first place, it gets progressively harder to get each subsequent side to open up. ASUS has lost all respect in my eyes for making a product that's so freaking hard to open just to do basic maintenance.

Your link above is for the screen only, not the screen with frame. You should fix that. I have a tablet sitting on my desk striped down with the wrong screen to fix it. That is a bummer. I'm not up for getting the screen out of the frame and the frame is cracked anyway so I need a new one. Thank goodness I didn't tell my son he would have his tablet back today. However, the directions you gave are great. Fix the link!

hi again! i managed to change the broken screen on my nexus 7 2013. Like u said, it wasnt that hard. However a few things to keep in mind: 1. its best to DISCONECT THE BATTERY BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE, once youve removed the back cover. I thied doing everything exactly like you did but i must have touched something sensitive and ive managed to fry the charging port pcb, i saw (and smelled) smoke so i thought its done for. But i continued with the repair and, to my surprise, everythings works except charging. 2. like somebody else said it here in the coments, the replacement screen (from etrade supply) does not include the front plastic frame. So you have to detach it from the old screen, or should i say pry it. It is stuck to the frame with a strong sticky tape all around. Hair dryer didnt work, i had to break the screen by making a big hole in the middle and then use a small screw driver to pry the remaining part from the frame. The screen needs to be pushed towards the front of the tablet in order to be removed. You will need to stick the new screen to the frame, i used very small points of super glue. This is the neanderthal way and i do not ever want to have to do this to an electronic device again, ever. You can also cut yourself in the process and there will pe very small glass particles everywhere. Would be great to be able to buy the whole assembly, screen + frame. In the end the touch screen works but not as seamles as it did on the original one. I am not an expert but i think the replacement from etrade supply (comes from china, not usa!) is the same part as the original. After all this, i whish id have saved me the money (screen + charging port + shipping = about half the price of a new 32GB N7) and the trouble, and just bought a new tablet

  • @JerryRigEverything

Sounds like you had quite the experience. I have looked for other screen suppliers, (As the one from etrade isnt that easy to do) But I have not found anyone else who sells the screens. If anyone finds a good one. let me know so I can link it.

The most difficult part of any repair on a tablet is removing the screen. In this video he has worked the screen off previously. It's important that people understand how to remove the screen without damaging it. Anything else, including almost all repairs are simply unplugging cables and removing screws. So, this does an injustice to repairing one of these devices.

Do you know of any resources online that show how I could remove the screen when it hasn't been moved before? The guides I've found so far are based on previously worked screens, so that's...next to useless for me.

  • @TJ-xe2hv

@@smokey0111 Don't do what I did, which is try to remove the cover from the top of the unit. If you do that then you WILL crack the glass. Oh yes you will. You will be very angry. To open the case: look at the top edge of the unit, where the heaphone socket is. You will see that the screen sits about 1mm proud of the plastic case. That's what you're aiming for. Work your pry-tool into the gap between the edge of the plastic frame and where the edge of the screen is, give it a wiggle, and you should see the frame start to come away from the screen, then start to work your way along the top, and down each side. Hope this helps.

Our company has done a ton of the original Nexus 7 screen repairs. We can get the new 2013 screen assembly, but it's expensive. Current cost is $175. It's going to take at least 6 months before prices start to drop since there are no other manufactures who currently make this high res HD screen.

My 18 month old 2013 nexus 7 has just had a main board replaced due to this problem. However the sound connection with any type of headphone socket still gives connection problems. Your comments would be interesting and could you show or say if the main board replacement would include earphone socket?

my nexus 7 2013 has always been in great working condition until this last week when I left it in my car for only 1 night and I found it with a dead battery. First I tried to charge it and all I got was 5 blinking notification lights and now I do not even have no indication of power . This was very odd because I never had issues with the battery draining completely .

Hey, buddy, thanks! Very well done. The only question I have is about the sourcing of a replacement "daughter" board.....the one that includes the charge port. I watched another video where the guy replaced his charge-board and he found afterward that his touchscreen no longer worked. Any advice on how to make sure you're getting a replacement that WORKS and doesn't screw up the touch factor? Thanks again! Michael

I have learned from the video and some of the ribbon cables remind me of some on the laptops, being so small and pops out rather than being screwed in. I guess most people using those are the ones who need a bible for church where they can keep up with the speaker or in study. As a guy I can't figure out how to carry one of those around as I would not want to break it. We men don't carry purses like women, and I have noticed in the last two years that many women are using them in church. Thanks so much for sharing this information with all of us.

JerryRigEverything Hey, I have a nexus and the corner's plastic seems to be coming off, like the hard plastic. Is that part of the back casing or would it be part of the digitizer/screen? Thanks.

If you have the LTE version of this tablet, remember to also remove the SIM card tray before you pry the back cover off. I nearly ripped the SIM socket off the board.

You're very welcome. Yeah I have a Lenovo tablet that needs a new charging port. Can't bring myself to buying just a charging port off eBay for $25 - $30 when the same tablet basically new but used I can buy for $65. I just don't have the skills to fix the charging port board I have. I've never learned how to work on pci boards that small. Plus also, it's not worth to send to have fixed. They would charge more than it's worth. Sucks man because its a mint Lenovo. I have a kindle fire that's basically new that needs a port and a nexus 7 gen 1 that has cracks in the glass and the digitizer doesn't work. If I could send them all for a good deal I would get them fixed but looking at $100 in used parts ya know.

Hi. Thank you so much for this video. Managed to open mine because it got slightly water damaged at the charging port area. Shortly speaking, it's okay now... except for the notification light that won't go off. I noticed that when I press the end of the gray wire cable on the charging port side, the light changes. it even went off for a few minutes. So I returned the case and turned on the device, the steady light returned. Also, I think it caused the battery to drain because last night it was 34% when I turned it off. When i opened it today, it was 9% or 12% already. And I don't remember my tablet draining that fast before. Can anyone tell me how to stop the notification light?

Hey everyone, unfortunately, my nexus 7 (2013) got a little wet. I tried to turn it of right away when it happend, the screen got a little funky but it did turn off. Once I got home I disconnected the battery and made sure it will dry up properly. Connected everything but still won't turn on again. However the LED indicates that it is charging, is it possible that only the screen is buggered? What are the chances, no point buying a new screen if its f**ked. Help much appreciated. Great video by the way!
